"Wow... that's great, mes'sirrah... I can visit the girls and teach them to read and everything..."

Kero chuckles. "Not too long ago ye didn't know how to read yourself and now you want to teach someone else?"

Passura shrugs. "They don't know how. Em always read to them or Bez. But they never grew up... so no one ever thought to teach them."

The boy nods readily. He's really had a long day from the look of things. As they walk back up towards Emnast's cave, he mentions the fact that he had apologized to Ari. "Want to know something funny, mes'sirrah... she was trying to apologize to me while I was apologizing to her. We both ended up laughing ourselves silly over it. Mara thought we were really being stupid, though."

The boy is eager to comply and is soon fast asleep, leaving Kero and his brother a bit of privacy in which to hold some serious conversation.

The dragon chuckles softly and rests his great head on his front feet. "Well enough, I suppose. Lonely... but never truly alone, if you know what I mean. Bez is really an upright guy, if a bit sarcastic and somewhat bitter. The girls were... well perpetual toddlers is a good term for it. smart as whips but naive as all get out. Keva came by from time to time, but never too long or too often. I've been studying. But my magic isn't what it used to be. The defensive is strong, but offensively, let's just say... I suck."

Emnast sighs and shakes his head. "No,.... my days of flinging magic around like it was candy at the 4th of July parade are long gone. Believe it or not, I'm content... and that is the important matter, isn't it? It took me awhile, I guess I'm a bit dense, but ye know I've learned that magic is nothing so special after all. It's a part of me... yes. I can use... yes. But if I need to chase off an intruder, I'll just treat him to a few volts of my power and be done with it. Studying is fun. Learning about it is interesting... but garnering it for me own and wrapping myself with it just because I can... not my thing anymore. I guess part of Ly's and Ame's philosophy is rubbing off on me. Ame once told me... just because ye can doesn't mean ye should."

"What was it Dad used to tell Mama when she got too uppity on him... oh yeah... If the shoe fits, wear it. Sorry, little bro... ye do tend to use it as a crutch. Of course, by now it's probably all that's keeping ye alive, so I do understand, but I couldn't believe you did that with the girls, have ye ever heard of the word restraint?"

Emnast sighs. "I wasn't scolding ye, just warning ye. Bez was a little put out. Yer going to hear about it I'm afraid. Though Ai did get him to calm down a bit after a long drawn discussion. Said something about that is how ye demonstrate yer affection to people that ye have difficulties doing it otherwise cause yer never around enough. Ari helped when she said you had already said they were to give back what they didn't need or want. But he did make them give most of it back, even some of it that they wanted. So if it was Rhea's doing tell her for me, will ye that she'd not have had it done to her kids... and I know it fer a fact. Right now those two are highly impressionable. And they are a dangerous age when it comes to that... so I kind of understand where he's coming from. And ye took from him the ability to provide something for them, himself."

He yawns and grins. "Ye just got to remember, Lucy... that this isn't the void... and ye don't need to impress anyone here. We love ye, just the way ye are."

Emnast shrugs sleepily. "Fine by me... I'm not the one who has to live with it. Anyway. How was everything back there anyway. Mara told me they stumbled into yer office. I bet that was a shock."
