Tam nods. "Now how old do ye think I am?" he asks smiling mischievously.

Tam laughs... "Yea... I guess ye could say that... or, since I've never had a birthday... I could also be very very very young."

Tam gives him one of those looks and waits for him to correct his little not so funny joke.

"Verrrrry funny...." he says once Kero realizes he's serious.

So, yer thirteen... right. Try multiplying that by a million.... ye'll come close to yer age, dulcha."

*Kero quickly corrects it with a shudder*

I'm thirteen F***ing million years old!

"Hey, compared to me... yer just a baby..." laughs Tam with a wink. "Why not say yer thirteen million years young... do ye feel old?"

Kero shakes his head slowly and Tam nods.

"That's because yer not. In a way, ye really are just thirteen years old. I should know... I've been raising ye."

Tam sighs and studies his finger tips. "I'm not sure how to explain this. but it has to do with yer being a void mage... and being that old... but ever so often... and when I say ever so often I don't mean like every few years... ye really haven't done it as often as all that... but anyway.... Ever so often ye need to be rejuvenated, so as to not completely dry up and blow away.... When ye do... you have someone whom ye know and trust raise ye. I'm not asking ye to understand. Truth is, I'm not so sure I understand it completely... but during those times your memories are shut away and ye are allowed to grow up, free of the problems and worries of a void master. Anyway... one day you will know the whys and wherefores... until then, ye are simply ye...

"It might be best iffin ye simply think about it as something ye will someday become... like someday ye will be and adult... yer getting there... and someday ye'll wake up and realize yer there, but yer not going to fret about it everyday until ye reach it. Am I making any sense?" asks Tam looking up with a twisted smile.

*Kero nods*

I...I think I'd like that.....so....Sira...what was I like...before all this?

"Bossy... pig headed... full of yerself... no... really I was joking... ye were my friend... I had only known ye for a few years but ye were... heck ye still are... probably one of the closest friends I have every had. I could talk to ye about almost anything... and often found myself telling ye things I had never ever told anyone else. In truth, ye were the very first person to find out my little secret. Until then everyone thought I was a simple kitsune... as if anyone could be a simple kitsune."

He sighs a bit and reaching down gives Kero a hug. "He had a few problems. One of them was a backfired spell that kept changing him into a cub or a baby dragon when the moon was full... then something really got messed up and he was a cub by day and an adult trapped in a cub's body by night. I knew him because my Ma was his friend and she had me watch him a few times during those transitions. That's when we really got close. I was asked to watch over the youngster by the day and keep him safe... and we'd talk at night. I will say this... as a 13,000,000 year old mage, I've known ye more as a cub or dragonling... than I knew ye as an adult. But I've met both sides of ye and no matter which side of the calendar ye've fallen, I've come to love ye very much. Ye can be stubborn... and opinionated... but ye listen when ye hear common sense. And, dulcha...

Tam sighs and looks away and Kero sees a hint of a tear in his eye. "I'll be the first to say I never ever thought we'd grow this close. But I am glad we have. Never forget that... it is you I love. I respect him, I like him alot... but it is you I love."

*Kero smiles*

But I am him, apparently....so wouldn't that mean you love us both?

Tam nods slowly. "Yes... and no.... Ye see when ye undergo this rejuvenation process, ye are allowed to grow up free of input from yer older self. So basically I got you as a small baby, an empty clean slate, so to speak... and although I can occassionally see vague hints of the elder... you, dulcha, are uniquely you... and when your memories return... you will still be you, but with an incredible history to draw on. Do you understand? Each rejuvenation has transformed you... some for the better.. others not so well... this time I believe you shine."

*Kero nods*

So I'm a work in progress, basically.

Tam chuckles. "Aren't we all? I am of the belief that when we do stop changing... stop learning... stop growing... both in body and mind... stop becoming... then in truth we die... if not physically, then spiritually. A stagnant pool is a trap for the unwary..."

He stands up and looks outside. "Well, I sent Hope up to the temple with an excuse fer ye. Didn't think ye'd be wanting to be doing sums and cyphers when yer brain was in a whirl... so what else can we do today... something fun. It is best not to dwell on this, Kero. I've told ye as much as I can right now, okay? So why don't ye go find Hope and crew and let's think of something to do."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 02, 2009 4:58 pm

*Kero nods...then shudders*

Sira....please tell me one thing...was....was I a monster...or was I kind...because some books call me...an evil being...a slavering beast, intent only on his next meal....

Tam sighs. "To me and those I know ye were kind and protective. As I said, dear heart... you've changed with each rejuvenation. And for as long as I or my kin have known ye, ye have been a merry prankster, wise beyond measure, loving and kind... but death to all who would harm another willfully. With great power comes and even greater responsibility to those who rely on ye, Kero and ye take that responsibility seriously. Perhaps once ye were... but no more. Ye had a hard life... and a long one... and there are scars on yer soul, which have faded almost unto oblivion, but at one time they were fresh and new."
