The Hare frowned.
He didn't like this- and that didn't just mean the Crab's snide comments and the Scorpion's poorly timed poetry- but that almost didn't need to be mentioned. Whoever was inside, if they were sitting in the dark, would have quite the advantage on them if they brought a light in. But without a light, they had little chance of finding their way very far. He didn't suppose Masuyo's ability to speak with spirits would help in getting the fox to scout for them and report back- though if she was a Kitsune he might have wondered enough to ask about it- which left them needing a light.
"...I take it no one here has a lantern. Masuyo, do you have a spell for light? The flame you put 'round Bayushi-san, if nothing else?"
He was starting to get concerned that his spare kimono and a stick was going to be their only way of seeing where they were going. He was almost tempted to try and find their way in the dark.

"You know we could just look for things to make torches with. A wild concept I know, I might of even suggested such a thing last night but I guess the importance of light is suddenly realised. Though if the Shugenja here was holding out on us on light sources I would really like to know why." Commented Kagae his arms crossed and fingers tapping a rythm on his arm.

"Well, now that it is light out, I would humbly suggest that you survey the terrain and find such suitable materials from this village to make such an item. I'm sure the Kaiu philosophy of excellence applies in everything from blades to torches. I know that you could easily make one , Kaiu-san, from anything that was not from our's, Asako-sama's, or Shosuro-san's traveling packs. Show us the power of the Kaiu school!"

"The Kami are an impatient sort. I could only convince them to wreath one in the Fire of Purity for two minutes at the most, and even then... well, they would be happy to give me a ball of fire, but I am no Kami; I could not carry it with me, so unless you wish to volunteer..." she left the implication hanging before moving on to a more productive topic, "I think Kaiu-san speaks truest here. Surely an entire town would not be amiss of something we might be able to use as a torch."
If that was a good enough incentive, she would begin helping with the search.

The Hare prickled as the exchanges wore on, rounding sharply on the Crab-
And for a moment, the small minor clansman seemed to seethe, teetering on the edge of an unkindly burst of some fashion or other. His fists and jaw clenched nearly hard enough to be heard- but he didn't make any motions to berrate anyone, verbally or physically.
And after a long moment of this, he'd simply turn, without a word, and march forward into the pitch black of the castle's gate, hugging the wall on one side, and moving along it slowly, sweeping his hands high above his head hoping to find some sign of where a torch might have been mounted- on the off chance that the castle had stayed so far intact that some petrified old wood might have survived and still be in a torch holder. He'd be careful to count his steps if he ever went beyond sight of the entrance way, before carefully counting them on his way to the opposite wall and returning the sweep on the way back toward the door.

Kojiro merely shook his head and rummaged through Asako-sama's pack...looking for something...or just looking to see what was there.

Kojiro gains 1 point of honor for politely ignoring Kagae's dishonorable behavior.@ Kojiro:The Bayushi begins to search through the magistrate's traveling pack, trying to find something of use. Normally questionable, the circumstances completely warranted this action, and inside he finds: Coin purse with X Fan Finger of Jade Flint and tinder Lantern Flask of oil Personal chop Small knife Sumi-e kit Writing paper Small painting 3 days' worth of rations @ Denbe:The Hare heads into the castle, and begins trying to navigate the darkness. He can KIND of see, but not well enough to actually discern anything. Perhaps something that he can *CRASH* goes the ceramic vase that the Hare just kicked over. Though as he traveled back, he did manage to feel out the presence of a wireframe sconce, with the unspent petrified remains of a torch that simply was never used when it was put there so very long ago. @ Masuyo:The Tamori of the party would begin by looking around the city itself nearby, trying to locate usable items as a torch. In the process, she would find some very old rags in a forgotten chest that probably used to be something decent, but have rotted to the point where they aren't useful for much else than to burn. Though her TWIG was likely much drier, she found the sheath to someone's katana that had been abandoned; there was no sign of the weapon that went with it. @ Kagae:Does not want to be credit to team.

Kojiro would pull out the lantern, oil, and tinder from the Asako's kit, fuel the lantern, and light it up. "Denbe-san! Masuyo-san! I've found a lantern!" The Scorpion called out to the two searching members of hte party.
Kojiro would spend a little time to examine the painting in Asako-sama's traveling pack before placing it back in. He would mentally apologize to Doji Kita for the fact that they couldn't reach Shisui in time to save him.

Masuyo returned to the party happily with her makeshift torch, only to find the Scorpion had found something even better. Ah well, she could still hold on to it just in case. For now they had but to dive on into the belly of the beast. (Though she was a little confused about when she had gotten on a first name basis with him.)

Denbe would take the husk of a torch (which he wasn't certain would still work, but at least he could easily swath it in something flammable and create an effective torch. Carefully picking his way back out, the Hare was about to announce that he had their torch- when he saw what the other two had found. Smiling, very slightly, he tucked the torch into his obi.
"Good. And this ought to leave us at least one good torch as back up. I suggest we get started now though- there's no telling how long it will take to properly search this place."
For the moment, he was just going to focus on the Scorpion warden and the eagerly helpful Dragon, and let the Crab do as he like until he was directly contributing or detracting from their effectiveness in some way.
He'd let Kojiro lead the way- he had the lantern, after all.

Kojiro nodded as he headed into the dark, foreboding castle. His right hand was on the hilt of his Katana while his left held the lantern high so the Jade Wardens (and Kitsuki Masuyo, of course) could see their way.

The castle, though belonging to a former minor clan and small for its size, was still fairly large, and would take a good deal of searching. Kojiro only has enough fuel for 2 hours, and most of that will likely be used up exploring the castle. I will leave it to... well, Kojiro's decision I suppose, since he has Shusui's lantern. But others can try to convince him: Do a quick search of the castle (half an hour) - Look for the obvious, like people and signs of active habitation. Not very detail oriented, but conserves the most oil. Do a regular search of the castle (one hour) - Look around all the corners, check behind all the shoji screens, open all the chests. This might turn up more than the quick search, such as signs of passage and whatnot. Do a thorough search of the castle (two hours) - Check EVERYWHERE. Every cabinet, every drawer, every futon, behind wall panels... EVERYWHERE. If there's any clues to be found, even minor ones, this will turn them up. After which, give me Perception/Investigation (Search) checks!
