☆ ☆【Phoenix rolled her eyes a bit as Klaus tried to hypothetically ‘bribe’ his way for a promotion by offering plush toys in exchange, nodding in agreement with Kraven as the musician shot down the idea thoroughly. ”I’d thank you to not get us into any major trouble if it can be helped,” she said with a pointed glower at the Zoroark, ”I know how much you enjoy your pranks and mischief, but there’s a fine line between those and just outright felony.” Besides, even if it was probably not even something major like petty larceny, it still wasn’t worth potentially being put on a police watch list over. Of course, she knew Klaus was smart enough to know when a prank might be pushing it a touch too far, and being able to utilize his illusion abilities meant that he didn’t have to really worry about being caught. Still, sometimes she did worry that he might push his luck too much one of these days and they’d really be in the doghouse for it.”Oh come now, it’s not like I’ve truly done anything to be labeled as a criminal. Have a bit more faith in me, won’t you?”he simpered,”But still, the safety of you two is far more important. If you really want me to keep any mischief to a minimum, just ask and it shall be done~”Phoenix’s glare eased up a bit more on that, feeling a bit more relieved that she wouldn’t have to keep such a tight leash on Klaus to make sure he didn’t do anything stupid that could get them in big trouble. He could be a handful to deal with sometimes, but at least he knew his limits, for the most part…
Moving on from there, Kraven admitted that she did find the idea of being appointed as the leader of their little party was a bit strange, saying that the whole ‘boss’ thing sounded more like a mafia title than anything. Admittedly the redhead didn’t see it that way as she suggested it was more like leading a party in an RPG, though the dark-haired musician said that the ‘boss’ was usually the one being fought as opposed to actually being a part of the adventure group. ”Ah, well maybe ‘boss’ isn’t quite the best term for it… Maybe ‘captain’ fits a bit more? Or ‘chief’?” she suggested, humming thoughtfully as she drummed her fingers on the smooth glass of the table. She glanced over towards Klaus at his suggestion of them being a crime-fighting vigilante group. "I don’t think we’d really fit the bill for that sort of thing, of course we’d defend ourselves if we were jumped by thieves but still…” she said as she nodded in agreement with Kraven’s statements. Klaus hummed as he looked between the pair, figuring the musician did have a point.”Mmmm, that might be true enough, but you never know. Sometimes in plain sight is the perfect place for a criminal or perhaps even an entire organization to hide, though not all of them are necessarily quite so discreet about it,”he said, his voice losing any trace of its usual playfulness as he eyed the pair with a dead serious look.
The lull in the conversation as orders were taken gave the Zoroark enough time to go back to his typical lighthearted demeanor as he listened to the pair talk about the prospect of taking on the champion title, chuckling at Phoenix’s response to the idea of wearing a big, ridiculous cape. The redhead felt heat creeping up her face at Kraven’s suggestion that they wouldn’t know for sure unless she tried it, saying that Kalos would be the perfect place to wear bright, garish clothing. ”Aha, thanks but no thanks,” she vehemently shook her head at that, ”Not sure if you’ve noticed by now, but I’m not really the kind of person who likes to ‘stand out’ in a crowd. I’ll stick to my casual, unassuming, plain Jane style, thanks.” Klaus chuckled at his trainer’s flushed face, a smirk crossing his muzzle.”Well if we’re talking about bold and garish I don’t think clothes would really matter. Your hair does that for you just fine I’d say, Phee-bee~”he chipped in, holding his hands up and positioning his claws to form a picture frame,”Ah, but I can see it, a nice light blue colored dress to compliment that fiery red. It’d be just perfect!”Phoenix huffed, giving the Zoroark the most unimpressed glare she could muster in spite of the red on her cheeks. She avoided dignifying his comments with any response, however, instead favoring a change of topic as they spoke about helping the redhead with making more friends.
Of course, Klaus pointed out that Kraven might have to wrangle Phoenix a bit so she wouldn’t try to hide behind her friend as an excuse to avoid interaction. As much as she wanted to argue back as he insisted that she’d made a new friend easily enough by herself for the most part and couldn’t avoid people forever if she wanted to put in the effort, he was admittedly right. She ultimately relented, she’d already more or less committed herself to this and as much as she might want to she wasn’t going to try to back out now. And even if she tried, Klaus and Kraven surely wouldn’t let her without a fight. The Zoroark chuckled at their friend’s reassurance that she could keep Phoenix from hiding or otherwise trying to run off from any potential social interaction.”Oh I have faith you certainly will, believe me. And it certainly helps that Phee likes you quite a bit, I doubt she’d really mind it quite as much as she would otherwise,”he said with a light laugh as Phoenix’s blush flared up at the smile Kraven gave her and she hid her face in her hands. ”Two against one is hardly fair, you know…” she groaned, already feeling some degree of regret for agreeing to this whole ‘making friends’ deal. Thankfully, she was spared any further embarrassment as Kraven diverted their attention by pulling out some maps and suggesting they plan out their routes for the places they planned to travel.
Phoenix blinked curiously at the raven-haired girl’s answer that she hadn’t done much research-wise, saying that she’d mostly just had the maps and hadn’t planned to really use them for much until she was preparing to jet out of Kalos. ”I see… Well, I imagine you’ve heard a fair bit about all of these different regions just on a regular basis around town,” she suggested as she picked up the Kalos map to look at first, ”Icirrus is nowhere near as big of a tourist hive as Lumiose , even if it’s not much I’m sure you’d know a fair deal more than me…” In spite of Kraven’s words, the map of Kalos held a lot of detail to them as Phoenix skimmed over the little notes scattered about with a look of mystified wonder. Most of the names of all these places apart from Lumiose were more or less unfamiliar to her, and it was clear the map was quite old since some of the numbers labeling the towns and cities had faded a little but were still legible enough to make out clearly. Moving her cup of tea in a more comfortable place so she wouldn’t accidentally bump and risk knocking it over and spilling it on the maps, she glanced up as Kraven leaned from her seat to point out Santalune where the first gym was. ”Right… We don’t really need to stop at every place along the way if we don’t have any reason to go there,” she agreed, ”That is assuming we’ll mostly be flying ourselves from place to place rather than exclusively sticking to land travel.” Her curious eyes follow her companion’s finger as they trace along the map, pointing out the section of road branching out from Camphrier to the Parfum Palace as she said that was the place she’d mentioned before. ”I see… Though with a name like Parfum Palace it sounds more like a mansion to me as opposed to an actual castle,” she murmured with a soft chuckle, tilting her head at the mention of the statues in the palace’s garden that were apparently significant to Unova.
”Really? How interesting… I haven’t heard anything to suggest that Kalos might share some history with Unova, but it sounds like those statues alone would be worth checking out.” Her attention stayed on Kraven as she watched the musician’s fingers trail from point to point, explaining the land routes that they’d likely skip over since they’d surely be relying on their Pokemon to fly them between places along the way. Phoenix listened with intense interest, content to just let Kraven explain and not having much in the way of questions. She was admittedly quite curious about the roller rink park along the road between Camphrier and Lumiose, the menhir dotted trail from Cyllage to Geosenge, and the ranch with friendly Skiddo that let visitors ride them along the northwestern coastline. ”It sounds like we’ll be more or less sticking to the towns and cities where the gyms are from the looks of it, unless there’s any particular place a bit off the beaten path that you think might be worth checking out or could be good for training,” she suggested, her eyes trailing thoughtfully over the map, ”Still, it’s not like we’ll be there for too long… Assuming Lumiose will be our final stop before we move on elsewhere, if there’s a gym there I imagine we might want to try for the badge there before leaving if we feel ready enough for it.” She doubted Kraven would really want to stay in the city for too long, perhaps overnight at most if they had to unless she might say otherwise. Not that Phoenix could blame her, though she hoped to at least have enough time to get a good taste of what Lumiose was like in person after hearing so much about it.】☆ ☆

Between the two trainers, they seemed to be able to dissuade Klaus from getting himself--and more importantly, all three of them--into trouble with his antics. Neither seemed particularly interested in giving him the faith he asked for, but before long they had shifted topics all over again. Kraven hummed thoughtfully at Phee's suggested titles, thinking them over in her mind. "Chief certainly has a good ring to it," she admits. "Though if I'm being honest, 'Boss' does too. Decisions decisions..." Of course, the mischievous Zoroark had his own ideas for the nature of their little group, arguing dropping some of his playfulness as he looked between them. "Nor are they any more likely to blow a hole in the wall and shout at us. If something happens, I don't mind taking matters into my own hands, but it won't do us any good to look for trouble ourselves."
Before Klaus' serious demeanor could become jarring, it was finally time to place their orders, the three of them quickly settling back into their prior cheek. With how red her companion seemed to get so quickly, she almost had to wonder where her hair stopped and her cheeks began, chuckling at the Zoroark's mental image of his trainer. "I dunno, I think something slick black would suit her better." She brought her hand up, resting one cheek on her thumb while a finger stroked the other, closing an eye to better picture this theoretical attire. "Maybe give it some gold trim, open up a little down the legs. Might not match her eyes as well, but it'd certainly help her 'pop' more, Klaus." She couldn't help but linger on the subject for a tad longer, but Phoenix would inevitably get her wish, bringing their attention back on the hunt for friendship.
"If we played fair you wouldn't get to the introductions," the raven-haired trainer chimed, before reaching down to collect her maps. She didn't feel like she'd done much in the way of preparation--she had maps, she'd looked into some of the pokemon, and charted out where all the gyms were, but... Considering that she hadn't quite gotten names figured out, there was probably still more she could've done. "Well you don't need to be surrounded by foreigners to look into this sort of thing. I picked most of these up from a thrift shop, any time a new phone or holo-watch came out you'd have a new wave of people just leaving their guidance to them." She got up and began showing her friend the route between gyms, stopping and circling around the places she had a bit more to say about. "More or less, yeah. If you see something you wanna check out though, just lemme know and we can check it out." Kraven gave the redhead a warm smile, before getting up completely and moving her chair over to sit beside Phee. Make it easier to run through it while Gungnir was still in her other arm.
Parfum Palace seemed to still have Phoenix's attention, even moreso after she made mention of the garden statues that watched over the estate. "Apparently it was the King's residence back when we had one of those, though I'm a little blurry on the details. Oh! There's also a small museum..." Sparse as her knowledge was, Kraven was still eager to tell her companion all she knew, making sure not to miss anything that might pique her interest to some degree. Even when she looped back to Lumiose, she took the time to list a few regular attractions, from the convention center in North Lumiose to a particular cafe in the southern section. She nearly continued right onto Laverre before the redhead spoke up again. "Oh, yeah probably. Actually getting around on foot can be kind of a pain from what I hear. I think there's even some big cave near the coast that you can't get to without riding a Rhydon, due to how bad the ground is over there." She nodded along, following her companion's gaze as it wandered about the surface of the region. "We'll have to see. The gym in Lumiose is actually an Electric one too, believe it or not. So if nothing else we'll get some good practice in on Elisa."

☆ ☆【With how busy the restaurant it would probably be quite some time before their food arrived, though Phoenix was content enough to make more small talk with Kraven and Klaus while they waited. However, apparently it was too much to ask to be afforded a least a bit of peace as their talk about championships and capes branched out into some rather… ‘colorful’ wardrobe choices for her. The Zoroark grinned at the idea, admittedly the redhead would look nice in a dress if she could be convinced into wearing it. It hadn’t taken much for her to change into that yukata they got for her to go to Tanabata in, a dress for maybe a more formal event like a gala wouldn’t be that much different. From the sounds of it Kraven agreed on that sentiment, though her idea was a bit different from the complementary color scheme that he had in mind as she pictured a sharp black dress with gold trim. Klaus hummed as he pictured it in his mind as well, nodding along with her suggestions as he grinned.”Mhm mhm, yes, I can certainly see that too. I don’t think trying to match it up with everything else would be a big issue, they do say black goes well with everything,”he chipped in, winking knowingly,”Believe me, I would know~”At this point Phoenix’s flushed face was about nearing maximum level as she listened to the pair toss their ideas back and forth. ”Are you two using me as a hypothetical personal model now? Because I refuse, thank you very much,” she deadpanned, puffing out her cheeks a bit and narrowing her eyes at the both of them. However, her expression softened as she thought more on it, she wasn’t really that opposed to the idea of possibly trying out new things. Even something like a change of wardrobe could be refreshing and exciting, as long as it was kept mostly modest at least in her opinion… ”But… maybe I could at least try something different, even though I’ll probably only do it once and then never again,” she relented with a shrug, ”As long as you two don’t use it as an excuse to make me wear something absolutely outlandish, that is…” Had to draw a line in the sand somewhere, of course.
On the front of helping to improve her rather lacking social skills, Phoenix was already feeling like she might already be regretting accepting the plan in the first place as Klaus and Kraven were quickly boxing her in. Well, it wasn’t like she could back out now even if she really wanted to, which was tempting right now… ”Jeez…” she muttered when Kraven insisted that they wouldn’t get far at all if they played fair. Well, she was already in too deep, the only thing she could do now was just sit back and try to enjoy the ride as best she could. Emphasis on try, because as much as she wanted to be optimistic there was always a chance that things could go horribly wrong. That being said, though, the conversation moved on from there as Kraven brought out some maps for them to look at. The redhead hummed and nodded at the musician’s remark that one didn’t really need to be surrounded by tourists and foreigners to learn more about other regions. ”True… I’m at least familiar with the names of some places in other regions for the most part, though I don’t know enough about the lay of the land to be able to pinpoint the exact locations of gyms are and such,” she admitted, ”And when it comes to certain places like Alola or Galar I have absolutely no idea. Though with newly discovered regions popping up every so often, I guess it’s understandable to not have maps for them immediately available.” She listened intently as Kraven walked her through the routes between the cities and gyms they’d hit up during their trip there, occasionally pointing out certain areas that she went into a bit more detail about.
Of course, it was only natural that they’d fly between areas since it’d be far less time consuming as opposed to trying to walk everywhere, though they’d definitely miss out on some of the sights and scenes along the land routes by simply flying over them. Phoenix returned the smile her dark-haired friend gave her at her suggestion that they could stop and check something out if the redhead ever saw something that interested her, not protesting one bit when Kraven moved her chair so that the pair could sit next to each other instead of on opposite sides. ”Are you absolutely sure? Because I just might want to check out all of it with an invitation like that, and I mean all of it~” she asked with a laugh, her eyes sparkling with a kind of excitement like a child wanting to touch anything and everything they could get their little paws on. The mention of some peculiar statues in the garden of Parfum Palace and their apparent connection to Unova immediately grabbed Phoenix’s attention, even if there wasn’t much else to really see at the palace itself it would probably be worth visiting just to have a look at those alone. According to Kraven Parfum Palace was the home of Kalos’s king, at least back when monarchies were still a thing, though she didn’t have much else to offer in terms of additional information since she didn’t remember much. However, the gears in the redhead’s mind were turning as she remembered that much of Unova’s primary mythos revolved around a pair of heroes who formed the region by uniting the people who waged wars and fought against each other. Of course she didn’t remember it being stated anywhere that the two brothers were particularly princes, but maybe they had some relation to the king of Kalos that wasn’t widely known… Still, she didn’t linger on that train of thought for long as she listened to Kraven as she rattled off everything she knew about Kalos, making sure to not miss mentioning any particular places that Phoenix might be interested in.
On the topic of Lumiose itself, arguably the star city of the region, there was a fair bit to see around there as the musician listed off some of the main hotspots. Even just looking at it on the map was enough to make Phoenix’s head spin just from how extensive it was, surely there was hardly any shortage of things to do even just over the course of a day’s visit there. She glanced up at Kraven’s agreement that they’d most likely be sticking mainly to the towns and cities while they were there, explaining how land travel could be a bit of a pain sometimes. Apparently there was a cave near the coast that you had to ride a Rhyhorn to be able to get to because of the terrain that was difficult to be able to traverse on foot. ”Goodness, I guess I can see why traveling around on Pokemon is so popular in Kalos… I remember hearing about a certain Pokemon that people often used for faster travel around Lumiose in particular because of how extensive it is, Gogoat I believe,” she said, wondering what it would be like to ride on a Pokemon like that. The last time she’d technically ridden a Pokemon it hadn’t been the best experience for her… Not to mention it had completely unintentional in the first place and Tauros, notorious for their short tempers and rampages, were hardly what she’d call an ideal Pokemon for that sort of thing unless they were specifically trained. At the suggestion of possibly taking on Lumiose’s gym if they were ready for it when they got there, Kraven suggested they’d have to see how sure when they got there. If they felt they were ready enough then maybe they could, if not they’d most likely just move on from there.
”Really? Funny you mention that, I guess in a way Nimbasa and Lumiose are considered to be sort of ‘sister cities’ since they’re both major tourist hubs in their respective regions, though it could be because both have Electric gyms too,” she said with a light laugh, nodding in agreement, ”Of course, one step at a time. Just be careful when you take on Nimbasa’s gym, Elesa’s Emolgas tend to catch challengers off guard since Ground type moves don’t affect them. So definitely keep that in mind too while we’re out training in the desert.” While they continued their talk, the restaurant’s door opened and the blonde haired waiter came back out, bringing a large tray of food over to their table.”Ahem, ladies, and gentleman,”he spoke up, smiling as he set each of the plates down before them while being mindful of the maps scattered about,”Please enjoy~”Placing down a small tray with about three different flavors of syrup between the trio, he quickly turned tail and disappeared back into the building before anyone could get so much as a word out. Klaus licked his lips eagerly as he eyed his own plate with a thick, juicy looking steak, a heaping portion of eggs, and a pair of hash browns, while Phoenix’s featured a stack of dinner plate sized pancakes oozing with strawberry compote and dollops of whipped cream. Carefully moving her plate so she could look at the map easily enough without worrying about spilling any food on it, Phoenix tucked in as she grabbed a forkful of eggs first. ”From the sounds of our travel plans for Kalos so far, I imagine it won’t be much different for the other regions we plan to visit, right?” she asked, figuring that the general format of starting from where the first gym is for each one and going from there was a good guide to follow, ”Though I think there’s at least a couple we might want to openly explore around a bit more than others, particularly Galar and maybe Alola too since we don’t have maps for those yet...”】☆ ☆

Between their combined teasing, Kraven was a little surprised she and Klaus were able to get their redheaded companion to at least humor the mental images they were putting together, flustered as she was as she was about their particular choices of dress. "Of course, of course," the musician chuckled. "Though I can't help but feel you might have a broader definition of 'outlandish' than either of us..." If nothing else, it was nice to get all dressed up once and a while. Even if it wasn't for anything special, there's hardly any shame in wanting to look a little more than your best, on occasion. "I guess that's just something we'll have to figure out while we're in Lumiose, won't we?"
With their food still a ways away, they had plenty of time to roll through their discussions, trailing slowly from one topic to the next. From dress to keeping Phee in-line for her quest for friendship, until they returned, seemingly inevitably, to the subject of the places they wanted to travel to. Watching the way Phoenix practically light up when she unfurled the map of Kalos had the woman smiling again, all too happy to guide her through the routes. "Well, a good internet connection and a bit of news here and there can remedy that a touch. To be honest I've known about Elesa much longer than I knew she was a gym leader. Kalos as a whole and Lumiose in particular are pretty neck-deep in the fashion obsession, so she's probably one of the harder sort to miss." She pulled aside the other maps as they spoke, making more room on the table in case the waiter returned during their little strategy meeting. "Well, the world's a bigger place than we like to think sometimes. Even when they're not as insular as places like Galar, news doesn't travel quite as fast when you've got oceans between you."
Even Kalos, much as she knew it existed, seemed to be entirely foreign to the redhead. It wasn't hard to find places you've never heard before, and even Kraven had to admit it was difficult to really internalize the entire world map. Still, right now the region they were talking about was one she was familiar with, and she was more than happy to share what she knew about her home region. Once they were sat together, Kraven couldn't help but shake her head at Phee's threat of boundless curiosity. "Within reason, obviously--I can't have you getting lost digging through all the little corner stores and such. We'd never get to see another region in the time it'll take you to check out everything along the way." Despite what she says, the musician's tone makes it doubtful she'd really deny her companion if it came down to it. A part of her almost expected it, truthfully, from how eagerly Phoenix took in even the most minor of details she had to give.
She nodded along when the redhead made mention of Lumiose's--or rather, one of--taxi services. "Yeah, depending on where you are and where you need to go it can actually be faster to fly through the city than it would be to travel on foot.' Kraven drew a finger across the marker for Lumiose, its immense size not entirely diminished on the map, when compared to how large a space the other towns take up. "But since most people don't have their own personal race Charizard or enough expertise to keep their Rapidash from barreling down the streets, Gogoats are a pretty reliable alternative. We do have regular taxi cabs, though."
When their thoughts turned towards the next gym, as well as their de facto benchmark for Kalos, it became Kraven's turn to listen, making note of what was likely to become a rather troublesome portion of Elesa's team. She opened her mouth to comment, continuing that train of thought, but not a sound passed her lips before the blonde fellow from before finally returned, carrying their morning fuel in his arms. "Ah, thank you," she repeated, scooting her chair a bit to give Phee a little more room. They'd talked through the hunger up until then, but with a full plate of eggs and pancakes set in front of her, the musician was, understandably, unable to ignore it any more. She already started reaching for the syrup and a knife to cut into her pancakes when Phoenix spoke up once more, her attention now on the next step after Kalos. "Sounds good to me. Might even be the first thing we'll have to look for when we find a big city in those regions; though Alola's so spread out they'll probably only have individual ones for each island."

☆ ☆【Phoenix listened with rapt attention while Kraven gave her a fairly detailed overview of Kalos, noting the names of particular Pokemon that could be found in each general area. She wasn’t expecting to really catch many Pokemon during their travels, unless maybe she found one that could be helpful or could fill in a role she was missing in her party that she could really use. And Arceus knows she could really try to balance her team out a bit more, especially when roughly half of them had a very glaring common weakness… She nodded at Kraven’s explanation that doing some research on the internet could help with learning more about where the gyms are in other regions, she probably should look more into it since it would certainly make navigating around during their ‘around the world’ trip that much easier. ”Oh?” the redhead tilted her head curiously as Kraven said she’d known about Elesa for longer than she knew the model was also a gym leader. Of course, given how fashion-obsessed Lumiose and Kalos and general surely were it was no surprise that the Nimbasa leader’s fame had managed to reach out all the way across the ocean. ”Sounds like Elesa’s reputation proceeds her a lot more than I thought. Then again I guess that’s hardly a surprise, she’s more or less a supermodel first and a gym leader second,” she said with a soft chuckle, wondering if the model might have actually done a gig or two out in Kalos at one point.
That aside, Kraven pointed out that the world tended to be much larger than people liked to think sometimes, and even if new regions that popped up it wasn’t usually known immediately since news didn’t travel quite as quickly overseas. ”True, it really does seem like the world’s always expanding with all these new regions that are being discovered every so often,” she agreed, ”Really makes you wonder just how big the world actually is out there… Guess we won’t know for sure until we see it for ourselves, right?” On the topic of Kalos, Phoenix studied the map with a careful eye as she listened to Kraven espousing information, interested to hear it all from someone who called the region home and knew a good bit about it. Of course, the redhead couldn’t help but playfully tease her friend that she might want to check out everything along the way if she was giving her that kind of freedom, to which the dark-haired musician shook her head and said they should try to keep it in reason at least. ”Right, right, of course,” Phoenix relented, even though from the sounds of it Kraven probably wouldn’t really object if she really wanted to check out everything. ”I just really want to be able to experience as much of it as I can while we’re there, that’s how it usually is when you visit a place that you’ve never been to, right?” Klaus chuckled, content enough to just listen for the time being as he also checked over the map with them though couldn’t resist chipping in his own two cents.”Still, you might want to try keeping Phee on a leash, just in case~”he suggested with a wink, not paying any mind to the squinty-eyed look his trainer was shooting his way.
At the mention of the use of Gogoats to ferry people around the enormous metropolis that was Lumiose, Kraven mentioned that depending on the location in the city it was usually much quicker to fly than it would be to travel on foot. ”I would imagine, considering Lumiose is so big that it’s split into northern and southern halves. There’s only so much ground you’d be able to cover even with a whole day to explore the entire city,” she agreed, blinking a bit at the mention of them also having regular taxis as well, ”Oh? Well at the very least it’s good to have options.”
With their travel route pretty much set for the time being, they turned their attention back towards the goal at hand with training for the Nimbasa gym. Phoenix already had a kind of strategy in mind for taking on Elesa, the only thing being that she’d need a Ground type to be able to effectively hard counter those Electric types and hopefully one that also knew a Rock-type move or two. She knew she couldn’t rely on Fianna and Hanaka to carry her through this one like they had the past three gyms, and Elesa’s Emolgas would definitely be the most challenging part to get past. The redhead made sure to let Kraven know so she’d have a better idea of how to prepare while they trained out in the desert, while normally bringing a Ground-type alone was effective for an Electric gym it wouldn’t quite work here. It was then that their blonde haired waiter finally reappeared with their breakfast, Phoenix giving the man a polite smile and a quiet ‘Thank you’ before he quickly disappeared again.
Taking a bite of bacon and a good forkful of eggs, they went over their plans for the other regions, figuring it would probably be best to follow a general format of starting with where the first gym was and go from there. At least so they wouldn’t have to waste as much time in places that they didn’t have any reason to visit, though of course with regions like Alola and Galar they’d probably have to explore a bit more to really get an idea of the layout since they didn’t have any maps for those. ”Right, I doubt that’d be hard to do when we’re flying around everywhere,” she said, licking her lips thoughtfully and raising an eyebrow at the mention of Alola, ”Really? I suppose that makes sense, though it probably can’t hurt to have more maps to add to the collection.” She reached for one of the pitchers and poured a bit of syrup onto her own pancakes before cutting into them, they were already sweet enough between the strawberry sauce and all the cream on top and in between. ”Speaking of flying, the path from here to the desert and Nimbasa from there is straightforward enough to just walk, unless you really want to try flying there, at least.” Having just acquired a flying Pokemon herself Phoenix wasn’t feeling comfortable enough with trying to ride a Pokemon she didn’t know much about, even though Jetta seemed docile enough that it might not be too difficult to handle her. Still, it probably wouldn’t hurt to get in some practice since they’d be flying around a lot during their regional excursions, at least so they wouldn’t have to worry about falling off in the middle of the ocean or anything like that…】☆ ☆

It seemed like most regions had at least one, big celebrity that doubled as a gym leader, going well beyond being a simple local star. Phee seemed to understand that point well enough, after Kraven explained Elesa's long popularity in her home region. "Yeah, I'd say that goes for some others too. Hell, I hear some Elite Four even treat their duties as more of a side gig than a dedicated career." Unfortunately, the musician's collection didn't extend to magazines, so even if she had seen something advertising the shocking leader's appearances she'd likely never picked it up. "There's another guy in a similar boat from Hoenn, I think his name was Wallace or something. I remember people going crazy over him when there was a Contest exhibition a few years back." She tried to think back on the actual performance, but her memory was somewhat fuzzy on the specifics of how it all went.
The young woman lingered on that thought a while longer before they got back to talking of other regions, and the way new regions so often seemed to be "discovered" every few years. "Yeah, and who knows. Maybe we'll even find ourselves somewhere brand-new before they make their big tourist-push. The 'discovery of new lands' bit might be a touch hindered if it turns out to just be the same folks from another region just a little further down the road, but hey." Kraven shrugged with a little chuckle, knowing that Kalos itself was thought to be new to a lot of people a few years back. It was really just a matter of putting it in front of them... Which the musician was happy to do for her friend, happily going over what she knew as they discussed how to proceed. "I certainly can't fault you for that. Still, if you stick around in one place for too long you'll never get to see the rest before you have to leave, even if we have a bit more luxury on time in this instance." She turned to Klaus when he finally felt the need to chime in again, getting quite the laugh out of Kraven from his suggestion. "Of course, of course, and I trust you'll help me pick out a collar?" She gave the Zoroark a sly look before rolling her eyes.
From there they more or less wrapped up most of what the raven-haired trainer had to say about her hometown, at least before whatever Q&A Phoenix felt the need to have before they got back to their more immediate plans. Walk the desert, prep for the gym, and hopefully find something along the way to help clear it--Pretty simple, she thought, before their food finally arrived to occupy their attention.
"If I'm being honest, I'm pretty sure the Gogoats are just there for children and tourists," she concluded, covering her own pancakes in a nice, deep glaze of a deep amber-brown. Of course, she hadn't even gotten her first cut of the pancake before Phoenix brought them back to travel plans, her gaze cast towards Alola and Galar. "Certainly not, but I've only got so much space in my bag. Alola on its own would I think be as many maps as this, if I can even find them in a similar binding." She gestured her head towards one of the closed maps, before turning her attention on the food in front of her. She listened to Phee as she started the process of chipping away at her breakfast, leaning over her plate a bit to keep the syrup from spilling off it. After gulping down a few bites, she replied, "It'd be best to just walk." Kraven stopped to wash it down before continuing. "Easier to appreciate the places we wanna go if we don't have to worry about just passing right over. Be kinda hard to catch anything from up there, either."
Plus, there was still the matter of Kraven's mode of transport. Mothra might be able to do the job, but just clinging onto the back of a moth seemed... Unsafe. And she wasn't much more confident in the Volcarona's arms to keep a tight grip on her back, something she'd rather not test for a problem that could arise a few too many dozen feet into the air. Maybe she'll just look for something on foot to ride. If it's just to get between the two cities, finding a more traditional mount would probably do her fine long enough to find something else, right?

☆ ☆【It didn’t really surprise Phoenix as much as it otherwise might’ve to hear that Elesa’s fame had reached all the way out to other regions like Kalos. Then again, the Nimbasa gym leader’s reputation as a world famous supermodel proceeded her far more than her gym leader duties did, in fact it was possible most people didn’t even know that about Elesa at all. She blinked curiously at Kraven’s mentioning that there were other such gym leaders out there who were far more famous for other endeavors that they’ve done, and that even some Elite Four members treated their positions as more of a side job sort of thing. ”I see. Though I suppose in the case of Elite Four members in particular they’re usually only really needed whenever a challenger comes to try their hand at the league, so it’d make some sense that some members are a bit more… lenient with their duties than others,” she suggested, wondering in the back of her mind if maybe this applied to Champions too given Alder’s tendency to spend more time wandering around Unova than tending to his position at the league.
She listened as Kraven mentioned a similar figure from Hoenn, a man named Wallace who had apparently attended a major contest exhibition a couple years ago. ”Wallace from Sootopolis?” she asked, eyes lighting up with a hint of recognition, ”I remember seeing him on TV a long while ago, he’s a pretty well-known coordinator over in Hoenn. I believe there was also a big thing going around for a time that he was considering passing down his gym leader position to take on the Hoenn League himself…” At least that was what she remembered hearing about, it wasn’t often that a gym leader chose resign from their position to challenge the league… Then again sometimes gym leaders would decide to move on to higher positions over time, that had been more or less what happened with Koga when he was inducted into Johto’s Elite Four and passed his gym leader position down to his daughter. Though in Wallace’s case it didn’t sound like his plans to take on the Champion title for the Hoenn League really came to fruition for one reason or another, well not yet at least…
Rolling onwards to the topic of other regions and so many new areas being ‘discovered’ roughly every year or so, Kraven suggested that they might find themselves in a whole new region during their travels before it would surely become swamped with tourists. ”That would be pretty exciting wouldn’t it, being able to make that kind of ‘discovery’ ourselves?” she chuckled, unable to help but laugh aloud a bit more at the statements that followed. It was admittedly too true, especially knowing when Johto was first ‘discovered’ it literally had only been about a stone’s throw away from Kanto. Well, a stone’s throw and a cave full of waterfalls to be more exact. ”Well, if nothing else it’d at least be nice just for the principle of discovering something that’s new to us for the most part, right?” Speaking of new regions, it was easy for them to segue from there to discussing their travel plans for when they took their detour from training and gyms in Unova. Phoenix eagerly took in every bit about the landscape and landmarks of Kalos as her friend explained it all to her in as much detail as she could manage. As much as she really wanted to explore it all, they obviously couldn’t just spend all of their time just exploring every single inch of ground in Kalos when they had other plans and other regions in mind to check out. Kraven admitted she couldn’t blame the redhead for wanting to satisfy her apparently insatiable curiosity, but they certainly wouldn’t be getting anywhere fast just sticking around in one place for too long even if they weren’t necessarily on a time limit. ”Right, right. I suppose I’d be content enough with seeing some of the major towns and cities and at least a few notable landmarks, how does that sound?” she suggested, figuring that’d probably be the best plan so she could see most of what she wanted to see without overstaying their welcome too much.
Of course, Klaus couldn’t help chipping in his own two cents, a sly grin crossing his face at the dark-haired musician’s teasing response.”Naturally. Fashion is pretty important in Kalos, after all~”Phoenix’s face flared a deep red at that, blowing out an exasperated breath as she hid her face in her hands. ”You two will be the death of me, I swear,” she grumbled, more than happy to just move the conversation along before either of them got any more ‘bright ideas’. From the sounds of it they had a pretty solid plan for the day, explore around the desert while getting some training in, hopefully catch themselves a strong Pokemon or two to help with the upcoming gym, find some trainers to top up when they got to Nimbasa, and maybe by then it’d be a breeze to clear the gym from there. Well, as much as it could be considering what they’d be up against.
With their food finally arriving, Phoenix wasted little time getting right to her meal while they cleared up any lingering questions and so on. She nodded at Kraven’s comment that the Gogoats in Lumiose were most likely there for kids and tourists. ”Fair enough there, still I think it’d be interesting to go on a tour of the city on the back of a Pokemon like that. Quick and easy as it’d be to just fly where we want to we’d miss out on a lot of the sights down below,” she suggested, biting down on a forkful of pancakes smothered in sweet strawberry sauce. Onto the topic of their plans, while they didn’t have any maps for Galar and Alola it shouldn’t be difficult to be able to find some once they actually found some of the major cities there. Of course, Alola in particular would be a bit more difficult since it was apparently so spread out that there likely wouldn’t be a complete comprehensive map including all of the islands. A bit of a pain, but she supposed if individual island maps were the best they could get then that’d just mean more maps to add to their collection. ”Goodness, is it really that big? I guess we don’t really need so many if we’re not necessarily going to be hitting all of the islands, though we could always just use digital maps instead to save us a bit more trouble.”
Leaning over her plate so she wasn’t making a sticky mess by spilling syrup and sauce everywhere, Phoenix took a few more bites of pancakes and eggs with occasional sips of her tea to wash it all down before explaining the route they’d be taking. Castelia and Nimbasa had a pretty straightforward route between them, so it was actually pretty easy to just make their way around on foot. Kraven agreed with that sentiment, since it would both be easier to appreciate the places they wanted to go and would be harder to really catch any Pokemon while flying. ”Certainly, though it would be best to at least get in a bit of practice with flying at some point since that’ll be our primary transport during our travels outside of Unova,” the redhead suggested, patting the Aerodactyl’s Pokeball on her belt, ”I admittedly don’t have the best, uh, track record when it comes to riding Pokemon, on my own at least. Not that I doubt Jetta’s ability as a capable flyer, of course, and she seems like she’d be easy enough to handle. Still, I would definitely hope to not fall off if I somehow lose control of her while we’re flying over the ocean, at least…” Falling from such a great height definitely wouldn’t be fun, and she knew Kraven would certainly understand that the most out of everyone here. Not to mention that from her previous experience with the few Aerodactyl she’d met working at the daycare, they were also incredibly fast flyers which made her all the more nervous about the idea of riding one by herself... ”Still, we can worry about crossing that bridge when we actually get there, I suppose,” she said with a shrug, focusing on her breakfast for now as she scarfed down the last of her eggs, ”If there’s anything in the way of shopping you want to take care of before we leave the city proper, be my guest. We should be pretty decently stocked as far as provisions go but it doesn’t hurt to be extra prepared just in case.”】☆ ☆

Considering how the selection process seems to be for gym leaders, it wasn't too surprising that a few of them might have occupations more well-known than their actual fighting roles. Though while Elesa at least seemed relatively fixed in place, regardless of her existing fame, Kraven had to agree that the Elite Four didn't seem nearly as tied down to even their own region. "I suppose, yeah. I guess when people have so much trouble with just the gym challenges, it must be rare for anyone to even get to the league. Hell, didn't you even mention Unova's champion was in the habit of faffing about across the region?" Granted, Kalos' wasn't much different. Diantha was a surprisingly common sight around in Lumiose, though perhaps its proximity to the League made it a rather convenient hub for even a busy Champion.
Of course, those two regions weren't the only ones with notable faces. Phoenix even seemed to recognize the pretty boy from Hoenn, at least in name. "Yeah yeah, that's the one. Despite how obsessed it can be about putting on a show, Kalos doesn't actually have its own hub for contests and the like. So we only really get organized stuff when they make an event out of it." Kraven admittedly didn't know much more about the guy beyond that. He was just an eccentric guy that loved to show off and happened to run a gym, as far as she knew, but the redhead seemed more aware at least of Wallace's ambitions. "Really? I hadn't heard about that. Wonder if that's still on his agenda or if that ended up being a bust..." If she recalled, the ice-type leader was the last in line for Hoenn's badges at least, so he was probably in the best position of the lot to try for that promotion.
Once the two diverged again, now ruminating on "discovering" new regions and the tenuous nature of that label for such areas. If nothing else, Phee seemed to get what her companion was trying to say, even laughing at the absurdity of how close to home those discoveries can be made. "Mm, that's true. It is always nicer to stumble onto something yourself without having to be told about it." The raven-haired trainer leaned back in her seat, humming thoughtfully as she considered the possibilities. "Who knows, if we did find a new region we might even make it in time to help with all the cataloging. I think a lot of the big pushes come after they get their Pokedex update." The thought that someone might be out there right now, combing through the wilds of a place she knew naught of to index and make all the entries for the pokemon there... It helped pull Kraven a little more towards that spark of adventure Phoenix seemed to have, though that was tempered a bit once they got back onto more charted territories. They finally settled on their plans for Kalos, the redhead fortunately understanding that they couldn't go everywhere exactly. "Of course, and you're still free to pick out anywhere that catches your eye as well--I just reserve the right to veto those detours when need be."
Klaus, unsurprisingly, had his own thoughts on the matter, proposing his own solutions for making sure their shy friend didn't get too distracted. "Exactly. You wouldn't imagine how uppity people can get for their Furfrous, let alone what they're wearing..." Joke or not, watching Phoenix almost light up enough to have her face match her hair was too good not to exploit, a grin spreading across Kraven's lips as she gave the girl a few pats on the back. "Oh, you'll be fine Phee. Besides, if it really came to that I'd at least find us something matching."
The teasing would be cut short as they diverge once more, returning to the overview of Kalos after their food finally arrived. "True, but there's better options than a Gogoat. Plus in our case, we could just catch our own or bring a different kind of pokemon to ride around, instead of paying for a goat cab." Despite that, Kraven still made a small note in the back of her mind to save some change for when the did get there--Phee was clearly pretty interested, so she wasn't gonna shoot her down if she still wanted to give it a go. After that, they'd settled on which of their two options would be their next stop after Kalos, while Kraven lamented the difficulty she expected to have with acquiring maps of Alola. "Well, that's just assuming I can find ones like what I have. I really like these nice, thick spreads, but I worry that most'll probably just be on travel pamphlets or something. At that point then I really might as well just use digital." She held up one of the unopened maps, the hand-filling wrap certainly much nicer than some folded print out with only a few restaurants for landmarks.
But before long, talk of the forward future eventually dwindled until they returned to the immediate, deciding on how best to make their way towards Nimbasa. Much as Kraven felt nervous about her present means of transport, she couldn't really counter her point. Those Gogoats certainly weren't gonna be carrying her overseas. "True, true..." She cut through her pancake in long, smooth strokes, dividing it into slices for her to munch on as she worked through about half of it. "We can look around a bit I suppose for anything extra we might want, but if we're gonna be flying part of the way we probably wanna go buy some harnesses. Someone'll probably have a saddle you can ride on, and... something to help carry me.

☆ ☆【Given how Elesa tended to be far more well-known as a supermodel than as an actual gym leader, Phoenix supposed it was to be expected that there were similar situations for other gym leaders in different regions. Even some of the Elite Four members for certain leagues didn’t seem as tied down by their duties to the league, though in context it would make a lot of sense since they only really needed to tend to their jobs whenever a challenger came in to try taking the Champion title. Kraven agreed, suggesting that it was probably rare for anyone to even really get as far as the league considering how tough the gym challenges could be. ”Yeah, though the more I think about it… Alder’s probably been more focused on other things lately than his Champion duties, Team Plasma has been becoming more problematic in recent times from what I’ve heard.” In fact, they probably should count themselves lucky they hadn’t actually come across anyone from Team Plasma yet. They tended to hold these big public demonstrations, making impassioned speeches to try to convince people to release their Pokemon. Even though they tended to spread their message using more 'legal' means as opposed to what most other criminal organizations did, there was always something about them that really just rubbed Phoenix the wrong way.”Team Plasma are known around here for preaching their message of releasing Pokemon from their trainers so they can be ‘free and happy’,”Klaus chipped in, a dark grimace crossing his face,”It may sound like their M.O. and intentions are good, but in truth what they’re actually doing is essentially glorified thievery. They make all these big speeches to encourage trainers to free their Pokemon, but they also harass unwilling people and steal from them.”
Phoenix nodded solemnly in agreement with the Zoroark, before directing her attention back to Kraven at the mention of Wallace attending a big contest exhibition. The redhead immediately recognized the name, knowing he was a famous coordinator from Sootopolis in the Hoenn region. She nodded as the musician confirmed her suspicions, explaining that Kalos didn’t have any kind of major hub for contests and that they only really get organized stuff when a big event was made of it. ”Do they actually have contests over in Kalos? As far as I remember they were really only a big thing in Hoenn and Sinnoh, unless they’ve only just recently started branching out into other regions…” Granted she didn’t really pay too much attention to that kind of news since contests weren’t really her thing and they weren’t major here in Unova, though surely Mrs. Chu would know a lot more about that since the old woman loved her coordinator magazines. The dark-haired musician seemed surprised at the mention of Wallace potentially passing down his gym leader position to take on the Hoenn League himself. ”Yeah, it was a pretty big deal for a while. Though as far as I know nothing ever really came of it, not yet at least… from the sounds of it he’s still a gym leader,” she said with a shrug. Though admittedly it would be interesting if he did actually pursue that kind of endeavor, she hadn’t heard of any instance where a gym leader had chosen to go for the championship title. Though if he did, who would he even pass the gym leader title to? Perhaps a family member or a close relative?
Rolling onwards from there, Phoenix had to admit the idea of ‘discovering’ a new region on their own was a pretty exciting endeavor even if it could be much closer to home than they’d think. Kraven seemed to agree, suggesting that it was nicer to come across something yourself rather than just being told about it, and that if they did find a new region they might be able to help out with all the cataloging since a lot of the major tourist pushes came after the Pokedex was updated with all of the new species. ”Well, who knows, we just might be that lucky during our travels out there,” she offered with a smile, feeling her adventurous spirit already chomping at the bit at the idea of coming across a never before seen region and seeing all the unique Pokemon species that lived in the wilds. Speaking of exploration, Phoenix was willing to give a compromise since they couldn’t very well explore every single nook and cranny of Kalos otherwise they’d never be getting anywhere fast. Her friend seemed satisfied with that, saying that she was still free to pick out any particular areas that caught her eye, but she’d reserve the right to just say no as needed. ”That’s fair enough, I think I already have a good general idea of the places I’d be most interested in checking out,” she agreed, ”Though I think that also might depend on just how much of Kalos we want to explore. Naturally I doubt we’d be able to take on all of the gyms there, but we could potentially return to some of the later ones at another time when we’ve trained up and feel confident enough to challenge them.” Of course they’d likely be keeping their focus mainly on the gym challenge here in Unova, but it couldn’t hurt to do as many gyms as they were able to during their travels abroad either, right?
Klaus snickered as Kraven playfully went along with his suggestion to make sure Phoenix didn’t wander around too much while they were traveling, remarking on how uppity people in Kalos could get about their Furfrous, much less what clothes they wanted to wear each day. Of course, the redhead’s face was so red as she listened to the pair’s banter that the Zoroark was almost sure she could’ve just combusted right then and there, though their dark-haired was quick to jump in as she gave the incredibly flustered girl some reassuring pats on the back. ”Gee thanks, at least I won’t be the only one suffering in that case,” Phoenix deadpanned, though relaxed a bit more at the comforting touch. Klaus on the other hand hummed in intrigue, tilting his head slightly as he tried to picture the two of them dressed up in matching outfits side by side. Even if they might not be able to talk Phoenix into wearing a traditional kind of dress, maybe she’d settle for a suit dress kind of deal with a blazer so that it’d be comfortable for her without leaving her feeling too exposed. Different possibilities spun in his head, though he held his tongue for the time being, figuring he’d spare his trainer from any more teasing or else she might actually burst into flames at this rate.
Instead, he was more than glad to focus his attention on that juicy looking steak on his plate as he immediately began cutting into it while the girls worked away at their pancakes. Phoenix listened as Kraven agreed with her suggestion, though mentioned that there were better options than using just a Gogoat to get around Lumiose. Not to mention they could just catch one of their own or even bring a different Pokemon that served the same purpose to ride around instead of paying for a Gogoat cab. ”Right, there’s always that too… I mean, it might be better to just bring our own Pokemon to ride anyways, if we can find any just for traveling on land of course. As long as it’s not a Tauros, at least…” Frankly she’d feel a bit safer riding around on a Pokemon that she knew was already well trained for that kind of purpose, but it would definitely be more practical to bring their own since the Gogoat service was pretty limited to just Lumiose otherwise. She supposed they’d just have to figure things out as they went… in the meantime she’d definitely save up a bit of money to pay for a Gogoat just in case. Expanding the scope of their travels beyond Kalos now, Alola would definitely be the most difficult to get maps for since they’d most likely have individual maps for each of the islands there. And even then, it probably wouldn’t be easy to find any physical maps that were similar to the ones that Kraven had in particular. ”Well, we’ll never know until we actually go there and have a look around,” the redhead suggested, ”At worst we’d probably just have to stick with using a digital map instead if we can’t find any actual ones that would suit our needs.” She had to admit that the maps her friend had were actually quite nice, and they came with a lot of different notes and bits of information about all of the different towns, cities, and landmarks and the Pokemon found in each area that others might not have. And the thick leathery binding made them easier to store while also protecting them from being ruined by moisture so they’d last longer.
That being said, with their future travel plans more or less ironed out for the time being, there was the matter of how they wanted to get on their way to Nimbasa from here. The path between the two cities was pretty straightforward so there wasn’t any immediate need for them to fly there, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt to get in a bit of practice since they were going to be flying around a lot on their travels. Phoenix wolfed down piece after piece of her pancakes, listening to Kraven’s statements that they could look around for any shops to stock up on anything else they might need but they’d probably want to buy some harnesses and a saddle for their flying Pokemon. ”That’d probably be best, Aerodactyl in particular are very fast flyers so a saddle would definitely be nice to have,” she said, eating another forkful of pancake and chewing thoughtfully, ”Mothra would be your flying Pokemon, right? I’m sure they have something available to help make it easier for her to carry you, though I’m admittedly not too familiar with using Bug-types in particular for flying…” And even then, Volcarona was probably one of the only Bug-types that were even capable of being able of using Fly to carry their trainers, funnily enough…
”If I recall correctly there should be a tack and saddle store somewhere near the city outskirts, so it should be easy enough for us to stop by on the way out,”Klaus spoke up, gesturing with his free hand northwards leading towards Nimbasa, before reaching out with his fork to snag a piece of pancake off of Phoenix’s plate. Chuckling deviously, he stuffed the fluffy, strawberry-covered slice into his mouth, sticking his tongue out playfully at the annoyed look she shot at him. ”You could’ve just asked, you know,” she grumbled, shaking her head at him as she turned to finish off her plate. Klaus simply grinned and shrugged in return, sure he could’ve but what would be the fun in that?】☆ ☆

While Kraven wasn't too familiar with Plasma's antics in the region, it was good at least to hear that Unova's champion was keeping an eye on the matter. She'd only really heard about the group from some idle gossip and a bit of their splash pages that crop up when researching her travel plans. "Sounds like a recipe for disaster," she noted, noting the surprising shade over Klaus' expression.
But their conversation quickly turned once more, drifting towards another famous gym leader that was known within Kalos. Kraven brought up an exhibition he came for some time ago, seemingly catching her companion's interest some. "Nah, we don't have anything like that at home. We either get our contests from the TV or when they come to us. I do hear there's always talk of expanding, but it's never really happened yet." Assuming it ever does, frankly. Though considering that she didn't even know who ran the contests out in Hoenn or Sinnoh, perhaps her perspective on things wasn't going to be too accurate. Even so, hearing that the pretty boy from the sea intended to take his shot at the title belt was a surprise. "Huh. Well, I guess we'll get a feel for his odds if we ever run through Hoenn's gyms, then," Kraven concluded, casting her gaze out in case the waiter was on his way back.
Once nothing arrived it was onto some somewhat vague travel plans, as Phee mused on the idea of them stumbling upon a whole new region. Much as she doubted they'd ever find something truly uncharted, Kraven did swing around to the idea, interested by the prospect of stumbling into a place still being surveyed fully for the pokedex. As soon as they had finished that thought though it was back to what they already had in store, and just how off the beaten path they'd be going. "True, it certainly won't hurt to collect a few more badges when it's time to train again. We'll probably have a better idea of it all once we actually get going though."
The conversation detoured briefly, unsurprisingly by Klaus' teasing, a subject the raven-haired musician seemed ready to join in. "Oh, it wouldn't be that bad Phee. We'll be sure to pair it with something nice so it's not too obvious." Not that she expected it to come to that regardless. Yet from the corner of her eye she could see the wheels turning in the Zoroark's head, but so long as he held his tongue there was no real way for her to know what he was thinking.
No matter what it was though, the arrival of food stole all of their attentions, adjusting the pace of their conversation as hunger took precedent. Slices of pancake disappeared one after the other as they spoke, transitioning from riding down the streets of Lumiose to what kind of maps Kraven could get her hands on for the remaining regions. By the time they settled on the inevitable topic of flying, it was down to just a quarter remaining, and though she tried not to show it, the prospects of taking flight were weighing on the musician. "Yeah, not that I have anyone else I could choose from. I can only hope she's stronger than I give her credit for, since I won't exactly have much control over falling out of the sky once I'm up there..."
Kraven shook her head, letting out a breath as she left her pastry for the moment, diverting her attention over to the ample plate of eggs she'd ordered. While she hadn't thought much of her pancakes thus far, the eggs seemed to hit a better note, causing the young woman to sink pleasantly in her chair. "How convenient," she noted, after swallowing down a large mouthful. "We'll pop on over there as soon as we're finished eating then. Unless anything else comes up for us to go grab first, obviously."

☆ ☆【Phoenix hummed softly at Kraven’s comment regarding Team Plasma, unsure of how much their dark-haired friend knew about the organization overall. Of course, it wasn’t like they were really all that subtle when it came to their M.O. given how frequently they liked to make public appearances in big cities, still it was probably best to keep their Kalosian friend informed so she had more of an idea of what to look out for. Especially given that Team Plasma were known to harass unwilling trainers and steal Pokemon from them too, so much for practicing what they preach…
At the mention of Wallace making a big appearance at some kind of contest event in Kalos a few years back, Phoenix couldn’t help but wonder if maybe contests had started catching on in other regions recently. For the longest time such events had usually only been relegated to Hoenn and Sinnoh because contests were so popular in those regions, at least from what she recalled… Though it could be possible that other regions may have started implementing the contest system, especially with the increasing popularity of trainers wanting to be coordinators nowadays… According to Kraven, however, so such system existed in Kalos, at least not yet from the sounds of it. Apparently there’d been talk of contests branching out, but as far as the musician knew nothing had really come of it yet. ”I see… To be fair it could be something that they’ve only just recently taken on, though I suppose we won’t know for sure until we actually see it for ourselves,” she suggested with a shrug, ”Don’t be surprised if we might see at least a few contest halls while we’re out exploring in Kalos, though.” All things considered, contests seemed like they would be readily welcomed in such a fashion-obsessed region like Kalos given how much they emphasized appeal and glamour. In that case, maybe they wouldn’t have to wait until they got out to Sinnoh or Hoenn to be able to try their hand at participating in one… Speaking of, Kraven was quite surprised to hear of Wallace’s plans to take the Champion title in Hoenn’s League, though from what the redhead recalled nothing had ever really come of it yet. She simply nodded with a small smile at her friend’s suggestion, a bit curious on what she might think of Hoenn and the prospects of them traveling there while out and about. She hadn’t exactly heard a whole lot on that region in particular, aside from the city of Mauville getting a huge overhaul and becoming a kind of ‘indoor city’ after Wattson apparently spent years waffling on the idea. That alone might be worth going to Hoenn to see…
While they were on the topic of traveling, after musing a bit on the possible idea of stumbling upon a newly ‘discovered’ region during their trip, as unlikely as it might be, Phoenix was a bit curious as to how much of Kalos they’d actually want to explore. Of course, some of the gyms they might come across while going from city to city would be way out of their league in terms of strength so they probably wouldn’t be able to challenge them right away. But there was still the chance that they could always retrace their steps and return to take them on after getting in more training, and Kraven seemed to agree on that prospect and suggested that they’d probably have a better idea of it once they really got into it. ”Yeah, it’d be best to at least try to stay on top of things as far as badges go whenever we can, even if we’ll mostly be traveling around for fun,” the redhead said with an assenting nod, especially if they were going to be spending time training up in between all the sight-seeing.
Of course, while Phoenix felt confident to keep her wanderlust on a tight enough leash herself, Klaus couldn’t help jumping into the conversation again. And once again the redhead found herself being subjected to teasing both from her new friend and from her own Pokemon, trying and failing to keep her own flustered expression under control. Of course, Kraven attempted to remedy the situation, reassuring the embarrassed girl that the idea of wearing a collar wouldn’t be so bad and that they’d pair it up with something nice so it wouldn’t be too obvious to others. ”I mean I guess… when you put it like that,” she mumbled, still not completely convinced but not exactly objecting to the idea. Even so, it likely wouldn’t even really have to come down to that. Klaus stayed quiet for the time being, though he already had a good several ideas bouncing around his head for some new things Phoenix could try, she’s been sheltered for long enough and probably could do to expand her horizons a bit more out of her typical comfort zone. Catching Kraven looking his way out of her periphery, he simply returned it with an ‘Oh don’t mind me’ kind of smile.
Not that they’d have much time to dwell on it otherwise when their food finally arrived, their attentions now focused more on eating. Bits of eggs, bacon, and pancakes gradually disappeared as they ate and talked, discussing more extraneous topics like how they might get around such a big city like Lumiose and finding maps for the remaining regions that were still missing from Kraven’s collection before settling on how they were going to handle flying from place to place. In spite of how much she tried not to make it too obvious, Phoenix could tell that the idea of flying wasn’t something her friend was entirely comfortable with. Not that she could blame her, considering what had happened yesterday with the whole falling from the sky ordeal… Of course, with Mothra being the only Pokemon Kraven had on her that was even capable of flying her around she was very limited on options otherwise. ”Right… Still, it would be best to at least have some kind of reinforcements in place to make it safer for you while we’re up in the air.” Phoenix narrowed her eyes in contemplation as she ate another bite of what little now remained of her pancakes. ”I’m not sure if we might come across any other flying Pokemon on our way to Nimbasa as some alternative options, but it won’t hurt to at least keep an eye out. If nothing else, you’re more than welcome to ride on Jetta with me if it might feel safer to fly that way. Granted that might require a getting a double saddle instead, unless you trust yourself enough to just ride bareback.” Even as she said that, she made a quick note to possibly consider buying such a saddle just in case if they were going to be stopping at a tack shop on the way out. At least if Kraven wanted to take her up on that offer.
Of course, Klaus was happy to point out that there actually was such a store on the city outskirts that they could easily stop in for a bit before leaving. Phoenix shot him an annoyed look as he used the momentary lull in conversation to swipe a piece of her pancakes, popping it into his mouth before she could even open hers to protest. Still, it was definitely pretty convenient as Kraven had noted, the redhead nodding in agreement with the proposal of stopping in to get some riding gear before leaving. ”Right,” she chipped in as she finished off the last of her eggs, ”We should probably consider possibly getting stronger Pokeballs at some point too, since the basic ones will only work so well once we start encountering stronger Pokemon. I won’t say it’s really much of an immediate issue that we need to worry about right now, but it’s something to at least keep in mind for later.” With that said, Phoenix focused on finishing up the last of her meal just as the waiter came back.
”Thank you for coming in today, ladies~ Will that be separate checks or all on one?”he asked, looking between the pair expectantly. ”One, please,” the redhead answered, short and to the point, the waiter nodding in confirmation before disappearing inside again. Moments later he came back, bringing with him a fancy-looking receipt book with a dyed leather blue covering which Phoenix took the second he handed it over. She opened it, looked down at the bottom of the receipt to see how much it’d be for everything, and slipped a few $20 bills on top before handing it back over. It took all of about two minutes for him to pop back in to process the payment before returning back to thank them for their patronage and leave a copy of the receipt for them to take. Polishing off the last of her remaining pancakes, Phoenix slipped the thin slip of paper into her coat pocket. ”Ready to go when you are,” she said with a smile towards her dark-haired friend.】☆ ☆

The prospects of running into a growing hub for Kalosian coordinators was pretty slim, let alone finding multiples, but it wasn't something Kraven would mind being wrong about. "Right, right, I'll keep that in mind. If we do find one then I'll make a point to have us stop by it," she conceded, wondering briefly where one would even be, should the young woman be wrong. Lumiose certainly didn't have a dedicated Contest Hall, but there might be some fans that run something of their own somewhere in the city. The countryside would probably be a better place for that though, since there'd be more space for a greater show and probably easier places for folks to get to in their travels. The Fairy-type gym leader might have some interest in getting something going near her town, but with the Pokeball Factory so nearby there might not be enough room for something like that...
While the raven-haired trainer thought on it a little longer, they continued on, finishing their thoughts about Wallace, discovering all-new regions, and what exactly they planned to do about gyms. They even managed to get in a little more teasing before food finally took center stage, delaying their conversation somewhat as they settled into their meals. They inevitably drifted back to the subject of travel, of course, but as they neared the end of their meal, Kraven was reminded of the reality she'd hoped to put off. "True... And even if I found something to just ride over land, I'll still end up falling behind from just having to go through the pathing for the routes." Munching on the last piece of her pancake, the musician considered it a few more moments before shaking her head, unable to come up with any solution that didn't involve her being dangled up above the ground. "I appreciate the offer, but I'll work something out." 'Course, they'd still need to find a place to buy a saddle from, of any kind.
Fortunately, it would seem Klaus knew of just such a place, stealing a bite from his trainer's plate as if it were some sort of tax for the information. "Probably a good idea. I got a few last night when we went shopping, but we can probably snag some more as we go." Since they seemed to be wrapping up, Kraven started to put away her maps between bites, which wasn't too bad since most weren't touched to begin with. Kalos was the only one she had to wrap back up, wiping off anything that might've gotten over it and making sure not to crease the material as she returned it to its original position. While Phee took care of the bill, Kraven then took charge of the tip, digging out her wallet before she finished her plate of eggs.
Once it was all said and done, all that remained was the single strip of bacon Kraven had gotten as the side, which she simply picked up to eat along the way. "I'm good to go," she reported, deciding to finally return Gungnir to his pokeball before they got on their way. They weren't gonna be in town for much longer, so better to have him ready to throw into battle rather than having to wrestle with waking him up from her arms.

☆ ☆【Phoenix hummed and nodded as Kraven spoke of stopping by any contest halls while they were out in Kalos, at least if they had already started implementing that kind of system like what Hoenn and Sinnoh had. Naturally her first thoughts on a city that would surely be a prime spot for contests was Lumiose, not exactly familiar enough with the layout of most of the other cities in Kalos to know if there were others that could host a contest hall. Or at the very least not particularly large contest halls… Still, the idea that perhaps other regions were starting to take up the trend of hosting contests for coordinators was an interesting one, to say the least. Although from the sounds of it, it depended on how popular contests tended to be around certain regions in general… They seemed like a huge trend in major regions like Hoenn, whereas in Kanto and Johto such trends never really appeared to catch on… At least not to the extent that they were rushing to build up their own contest halls anytime soon.
Nevertheless, they continued making small talk with the occasional teasing remarks being slipped in here and there courtesy of Klaus and Kraven even after their food finally arrived. They planned out a decent road map of their travels, including the gyms and some of the major landmarks Phoenix was interested in seeing, and did a bit of planning on how to take on Nimbasa’s gym once they had trained themselves up enough to feel ready for it. Of course, given how they would need to fly to be able to reach a lot of their destinations during their travels, it did leave some dilemmas for the both of them… moreso Kraven at least. While Phoenix was sure her companion’s Volcarona was capable enough to fly her to whatever destination they needed to go, she would definitely need some extra equipment to make it easier for the giant moth to be able to carry her. The redhead wasn’t sure if they might be able to find another Pokemon out in the desert that Kraven could potentially use as an alternative, not being too familiar with that particular area of Unova… And even if her companion could find something just to be able to ride on land, she wouldn’t be able to keep up since she’d have to go through the different routes to get from place to place. ”Right, right. I can’t guarantee we’ll find any Pokemon out in the desert we could possibly use for land travel either, but it could be worth just looking around while we’re out there,” she suggested, giving a small smile as Kraven politely refused her offer, ”Of course, I just thought I’d offer up an alternative, just in case.” That being said, they did still need to find a place to buy riding equipment for their Pokemon, though with Castelia being such a huge metropolis that wouldn’t be hard.
Of course, Klaus stepped in as he mentioned there being a tack shop near the city outskirts that they could easily stop by on the way out. It was fitting, given the amount of traffic along the road between Castelia and Nimbasa… It certainly wouldn’t hurt to stop by there since they’d be heading out anyways. Phoenix started to finish up her breakfast, wolfing down the last of her pancakes before Klaus could get the chance to try to snag any more as Kraven agreed with the proposal of getting better Pokeballs at some point. Of course, as mentioned it wasn’t really that huge of a necessity right now, but it was something to keep in mind when they would start coming upon stronger Pokemon as they pushed onwards. ”Yeah, we could probably wait at least until we get to Nimbasa to browse around for more of those, but if there’s any shops on the way out that you’d like to stop at just let me know,” Phoenix said, watching Kraven stow the maps back into her bag and clean off the Kalos one before carefully wrapping it back up and tucking it away with the rest. Once the waiter came back to ask about their check, it didn’t take long for the redhead to pay the bill as she swallowed the last bite of her bacon. She gathered her things while her dark-haired friend laid down a few dollars for the tip, chuckling softly as Kraven took the lone bacon strip from her plate to eat along the way.
With their friend’s confirmation as she returned Gungnir to his ball for now, Klaus was happy to take the lead towards their next destination which was a bit of a ways away. They passed by a small colorful looking ice cream stand selling the city’s wildly famous Casteliacones with a pretty decently long line of people waiting their turns, and the large fountain in the central plaza where the main streets lead to where a trio of dancers were showing off some crazy moves to a small audience. Crossing around to the final street leading out of Castelia and towards Nimbasa, Klaus finally paused in front of a large storefront labeled ‘Barker’s Tack Shack’ with several different saddles of varying sizes and other riding equipment for Pokemon displayed out front.”These folks have all kinds of bells and whistles for your Pokemon riding needs, from high in the sky to down on the ground~”he chimed, making a dramatic flourishing gesture as if to say ‘ladies first’. Phoenix rolled her eyes and chuckled softly, taking up the Zoroark’s invitation as she led the way inside the store. ”I’m not sure what they might have that you could use for Mothra, but hopefully we can find it in here.”
A small chime of a bell rang through the shop as the redhead opened the door, opening up into a spacious indoor store area with all kinds of tack equipment set out on large display tables and lined up along the walls, saddles, bridles, halters, helmets, and more. The noise drew the attention of the clerk, a tall, scruffy looking man with long, untamed brown hair and a thick beard, dressed in a simple flannel shirt and dark jeans with a black Stetson hat.”Well howdy there, ladies. What can I do ya for?”he asked in a Southern-sounding accent that was so light it was almost unnoticeable right away. ”Ah, um, well my friend and I here just recently got the Castelia gym badge, and we were hoping to get some riding equipment for our flying Pokemon before we leave for Nimbasa,” Phoenix quickly answered, giving the man her best polite smile as she fiddled with her hands. At that, the man’s thick caterpillar-like eyebrows shot up nearly a mile up his forehead, before barking out a laugh as a broad grin split his face.”That so? Heh, well I’d be mighty glad to help out a couple trainers takin’ on the gym challenge.”The man ducked down behind the counter briefly before moving out from the counter, approaching them with a tape measure in one hand as he gestured towards the large open space on the floor nearby with the other.”’Course I’ll need y’all to let out the Pokemon yer usin’ so I can see what we’re workin’ with ‘ere, n’ get some measurements so we can fit y’all out good n’ right.”
”O-Of course,” Phoenix nodded, already moving to grab Jetta’s Pokeball and releasing the Aerodactyl onto the floor before them. The big rock bird let out a yawn as she was called out, shaking herself off before turning a curious eye towards their surroundings as the smell of freshly tanned leather caught her attention.”Aerodactyl, eh? Not too often we see these ‘round ‘ere,”the man remarked as he looked Jetta up and down, chuckling as the large bird leaned forward a bit and sniffed at his hand before giving it a light lick in greeting,”Right, it’ll just be a sec.”Jetta’s inquisitive eyes followed the man as he moved around to her left side, tape measure in hand as he pulled it out and began carefully winding it around her middle.
Phoenix stood by, gently stroking the rock bird’s nose to keep her calm and still while he measured her out, the cowboy man taking a few seconds as he scrutinized the ruler with a few thoughtful hums before pulling back the tape.”We should have a saddle that size that’ll fit her just right. I’ll get that for ya in a moment,”he concluded with a nod, turning his attention towards Kraven,”N’ how ‘bout you, young lady?”While the clerk’s attention was on her dark-haired friend, Phoenix scanned around the displays all around them with a curious eye to see what they might have that would suit Kraven’s particular needs.】☆ ☆

With a firm plan and full bellies, it was finally time for the two girls to set out. The redhead's Zoroark was quick to take the lead once it was all done and paid for, passing down the main road. Kraven quirked a brow a bit when she saw just how many were standing out before a small ice cream stand, but the sights and sounds of Castelia grew less vibrant as they neared the edge of the city. It was perhaps the closest thing to quiet the city could be when Klaus finally stopped them in front of the tack shop, giving out a quick little sales pitch before Phee took over. "Hopefully," the musician chuckled. "Suppose it's as good a place as any though. I can't imagine a better spot to find what we need."
The young woman almost reflexively rubbed her nose as they entered, lacking a bit of... "appreciation" for the pervasive scent of the leather. The clerk couldn't speak up fast enough, the conversation giving her something better to focus on. The dark-haired trainer waited at least until the towering man had finished with Phee before fiddling with her belt, taking hold of Mothra's pokeball. "Sadly my options are rather limited at the moment, so I'll be needing something for a Volcarona," Kraven reported, letting out the large bug-type to hover opposite of Phee's Aerodactyl.
Upon emerging from the flash of white, Mothra seemed to look around the strange shop, her wingbeats keeping her suspended enough to be about on level with her trainer. Were she not at rest at such an odd angle, the Volcarona was probably big enough to simply cling onto as she flew. "I'll probably be needing a harness more than a saddle, something that'll make it easy for her to carry me without risk of being dropped." As she spoke, Kraven's gaze drifted as well, tracing the walls along the displays to see if she couldn't spot something herself. When nothing quite looked right, she returned her gaze to the clerk.

☆ ☆【Feeling much more ready to fully face the day now after a good, filling meal, Phoenix didn’t protest Klaus taking the lead as they headed for the northern outskirts of Castelia City. The streets were alive with people bustling about to get to where they needed to go, some walking at a more leisurely pace while others seemed more in a hurry as they kept mostly away from the center of the street where most of the traffic was. The redhead was content to just walk alongside Kraven, a comfortable silence settling between them as they took in the sights and sounds of the city around them. She noted the curious expression on her dark-haired friend’s face when they passed by the ice cream stand, chuckling softly under her breath. Tempting as it was to stop by to hopefully snag one of the city’s famous Casteliacones to enjoy along the way, with how popular they were and how long the line was right now there wasn’t any guarantee there’d be any left by the time it’d get to be their turn. Maybe some other time she could treat her friend to the delight of Castelia City’s favorite snack, right now they had other things to focus on as they reached the northern edge of the city.
Phoenix felt considerably more relaxed as the noise gradually faded to an occasional hum of activity in the background. As much as she didn’t mind the regular hustle and bustle of the city’s busier areas, it could get a bit overwhelming after a while, admittedly. She smiled and rolled her eyes a bit at Klaus’s little sales pitch as he led them to Barker’s Tack Shack, nodding in agreement with Kraven’s statement as they entered. The moment the overpowering smell of tanned leather hit her, Phoenix raised a hand up to cough quietly as it took her a moment to properly acclimate to the strong smell. Thankfully the clerk didn’t seem to mind it too much, offering to get them settled with what they needed. Of course, they would have to let him have a look at their Pokemon of choice so he could measure them out and get them fitted right. Phoenix stood by, keeping Jetta calm as the man spent roughly less than two minutes taking her measurements. Thankfully the Aerodactyl didn’t seem to really mind, her spade-tipped tail swishing back and forth on the floor as she leaned into her trainer’s touch. Still, she shifted her head a bit to peer over her shoulder, curious to see what the strange man was doing back there as she felt the tape measure being wound around her midriff and tightened for a few seconds before being taken off.
Phoenix smiled once the clerk had finished, the man then turning his attention towards Kraven as she sent out Mothra alongside Jetta.”Volcarona… Definitely don’t get a lotta those in ‘ere either, maybe at least one or two for every hundred customers. Then again these fellas ain’t usually folks’ first choice when it comes to flyin’,”he remarked, his brow furrowing a touch as he looked Mothra over. Jetta curiously eyed the big white and orange colored moth hovering next to her, the rock bird seeming fascinated by the bright colors of the Volcarona’s wings as she watched them beating.”Pretty…”the Aerodactyl murmured, tempted to reach out and touch them to see if they were as feathery as they looked but thinking better of it.
The man nodded in agreement with Kraven’s statement,”Aye lil’ missy. ‘Course I ain’t too familiar with flyin’ a Volcarona m'self, but I’ve dealt with ‘nough of ‘em to have a good idea o’ what might work best for ya.”Humming affirmatively, he pulled out his tape measure and carefully approached Mothra.”Now I’ll just need ya to hold still for a minute, alright? Promise I’ll make this quick.”Phoenix stood by alongside Klaus, the Zoroark watching the man go to work while his trainer curiously perused the shelves. ”What would you suggest as far as what's best, sir?” she asked out of curiosity. Admittedly being dangled from the air with nothing but a few straps between you and potentially falling thousands of feet below sounded like a dangerous prospect to her, but with how strapped they were for options it wasn’t like Kraven had much other choice for the time being.”Mmm, well the basic model is pretty simple n' light. Ain’t the most comfortable compared to other kinds, ‘course, but it’s definitely less expensive n' the best choice for someone who ain’t got a lotta flyin’ experience,”he explained, stepping back after measuring out the Volcarona,”’Course we gotta make sure its nice n’ secure for both Pokemon n’ trainer, so there’s less risk o’ any ‘accidents’ happenin’ while up in the air, if ya catch my meanin’.”
The man held a hand to his chin thoughtfully as he looked between the two Pokemon, then turned his attention back towards Kraven."How's that sound for ya, missy? We don't have a lotta specialized harnesses out 'ere for this sorta thing but we got plenty in the back, should be easy 'nough to find one that should fit just fine,"he suggested,"'Course if there's anythin' else y'all might need while yer here, feel free to holler."Phoenix momentarily thought about it, remembering Kraven mentioning them potentially finding Pokemon to use for faster overland travel at some point. Still, buying riding gear for that would be best saved for when they actually had suitable riding Pokemon for that purpose, otherwise that'd just be more unnecessary weight to have to lug around for Arceus knows how long.】☆ ☆
