Eula nodded and pushed herself away from the ramparts, turning to walk with him. She walked with him down the wallsteps and along the grounds, hugging the abbey walls for the protection from the rain that the awning provided. They came up to the door to Cavern Hole and opening the door, she looked down into a deep darkness that settled over the staircase.
She lit a small torch that hung on the wall near the doorway.* The flickering flame cast a dim shadow down the stairs. Not much light, but at least they wouldn't hurt themselves getting into the room. She went to walk, but on second thought, she carefully lifted the torch off the wall and went down the stairs.
The big fireplace and the large comfy chairs surrounding it were a welcome sight, as Eula passed the little torch off to Donato so he could get the fire going. She took off her dripping cloak and draped it over a chair, then walked off to a niche in the corner of the room where there was a small, narrow closet. She drew forth a large, plain grey blanket. She fluffed it out of its folds and closed the closet, walking back and setting herself in one of the big chair before she fire.
She fluffed the blanket out again, then drew it up around her, curling her legs up and hunching her shoulders, snuggling down in the chair to get warm and comfortable.
((* Yeah, I have no idea how she did that. I guess she shoots fire out of her paws. A handy skill to discover.))

He shook off his sopping cloak as they headed down the stairs and was struck anew by the cold as he lost what little warmth the cloak contained. Thus he gratefully took the torch and the radius of heat that came with it as he knelt to arrange some logs in the fireplace. "So," he began as he tried to open the flue. "What time do you suppose it is?" A thud. "Ah- there it is. This thing probably hasn't been opened since March." He picked up some smaller sticks and held them to the torch to light, thinking how glad he was the thunder wasn't too audible down here, then put the glowing sticks in the fireplace against the logs. "At least it's warmer down here than it is upstairs," he said, fanning the sparks into flame.

"I don't know," Eula shook her head. "I don't know how long I slept." And just with that idea of sleep, she yawned and laid her head back against the chair, rolling her eyes to the ceiling. She smiled as she brought her gaze back down to watch him.
"I know, it's almost winter again. Wasn't that fast? Back to warm fires and snow on the ground and hot cocoa and..." she kind of let her sentence fall off unfinished there, but not in a negative way, just thoughtful. She realized it was a nice feeling to think of the more distant future, rather than their future in a couple of hours. It gave a sense of certainty that everything would turn out as it should.
"This isn't the first time I've gone out and walked around all night. These little all-night escapades have been reasonably frequent lately." She rubbed her paws a little, watching the fire grow.
"I'm sorry you're having trouble sleeping... but it's at least nice to have someone to sit up and talk with," she added as she fanned the blanket out beside her, inviting Donato to sit with her.

Donato continued arranging the firewood, coaxing the flame to grow as she spoke. "Mm, it must be well after midnight." He glanced over his shoulder at her as she yawned. He smiled. He couldn't imagine falling asleep tonight; he was wide awake, but he thought Eula'd be asleep in that chair before too long.
"Yeah. Sledding and snow-forts." He grinned at the thought as he watched the fire grow. For a moment he forgot their more immediate troubles as he amused himself with the thought of the dibbuns tracking all manner of mud and slush into the Great Hall.
Now he turned himself around, still crouching on the hearth, and looked at Eula with a slight frown. "Well, you should try to sleep tonight at least." He gave a short sigh. "Things'll be alright."
He pushed himself up from the floor with a grunt. "Oof." His mind was awake, but evidently his legs were ready for bed. The hare perched himself on the chair with Eula, putting an arm around her shoulders. "Believe me, the feeling's mutual," he chuckled. "You're much better company than a dozing sentry."

Eula's eyes followed Donato as he stood and came to sit with her. She shared the blanket with him which also offered her the opportunity to adjust her position and cuddle against him. She did so without much hesitation or second though, turning herself a bit and putting an arm about him, nestling her head against him.
She didn't comment on Donato's saying she should try to sleep tonight. She really had no idea if she would be plagued by anymore nightmares, but sitting here in this room snuggled in a blanket with Donato, a nice warm fire and the peaceful rhythmic sound of rain safely outside, it was hard to be concerned about the images of her recent nightmare.
She closed her eyes and was silent for a bit, but eventually, just to prove she wasn't falling asleep right then and there, she spoke. "I walked into Faith's room a bit ago... she had fallen asleep with her candle burning, parchment everywhere..."
She spoke very softly, as if there were sleeping Dibbuns nearby that she'd rather not wake. "I've never really minded having her the named Abbess, but it's these times I wonder if it's right. She shouldn't be up all night trying to answer this stupid riddle, especially with..." and that was another sentence she left unfinished, but this was left off awkwardly, hesitantly. Especially with the fox coming tomorrow.

Donato looked down at her as she spoke and shook his head. "She's ten years old. I've always sort of minded her being named Abbess, and especially now. You're right. She shouldn't have to deal with this." Again he shook his head. What else was there to do?

Eula had woken early in the morning. No matter how little sleep she got, she seemed to get up with the sun regardless. She had been momentarily surprised to find herself in Cavern Hole, then the surprise lasted a little longer when she realized she'd fallen asleep in Donato's arms. She hadn't intended on falling asleep, she should've known better. A tad embarrassed and not wanting to wake him, Eula had carefully extracted herself, tip-toed up the stairs and returned to her room to change.
Now she was at breakfast, filling her plate and having herself a hearty breakfast. She usually had no appetite when there was a lot on her mind, but that didn't appear to be the case this morning. She was a little surprised by how wide awake she felt, too. Those few hours of dreamless sleep had done her a world of good.
Turan was up early as well, but he could've been up all night for all anybody else knew. He seemed to be in a hurry during breakfast though, making himself a plate and just standing by the table to eat it quickly and leave. He acknowledged anyone he passed with a simple "Good morning." Nothing out of the ordinary.
Ah, that's what felt so weird about the morning, that it wasn't weird. Didn't anyone understand what was going on today? She continued her breakfast in quiet contemplation, taking her meal slowly to see if anyone would come by and speak with her.

::For such a troubled time, it seemed like Abbey life could never be swayed from normality, even Faith was sitted at her usual spot, without as much as a yawn out of place, she was eating and speaking with those around her as normal...::
::Yes, life was so normal... except one thing just out of place, for at Faith's side, the spot usually reserved by Kusaa to stand her guard by the Abbess was empty...::
::And then, there she was, passing Turan, as the bat gave him a single look as she went by, all that she should have needed to give for him to know it was time to go...::
Good morning. ::She said curtly as she passed Tannia and Tracy as well, nodding gently::

Tracy waved cheerfully at Kusaa, nearly spilling over her drink.
Tannia, holding her daughter in her lap, quickly saved the drink from spilling onto the floor. Crisis averted, she nodded politely at Kusaa, but her eyes followed the bat and she noticed the look that passed between her and Turan. She knew to leave well enough alone, and just waited a moment for the understanding eye contact between herself and Turan, then she returned to eating breakfast with Tracy.
Turan nodded at Kusaa, glanced at Tannia, and gave her a quick, easy wink before turning and following Kusaa.
Eula had not noticed the look that passed between Kusaa and Turan, but when she saw them both walking by she immediately knew what was happening. She put her spoon down and pushed back from the table, as if to follow...
But Turan cleared his throat, "Good morning, Eula." He stooped a bit, paw on Eula's shoulder to prevent her from rising. He said something quietly, then stood back up, nodded at her, again gave that casual look like everything was fine, then went to follow Kusaa out again.
Eula hesitated in her seat, looking put out for a moment. But she nodded eventually and returned to her meal.

::Kusaa didn't speak until they had left the hall and all the other abbey dwellers, out into the grounds, where it seemed already a line of guards had arrived, all speculating between themselves, not very conspiculous, but so loud and many a rabble they made, it was hard to pick out what they were talking about!::
::Luckily, that was where Kusaa stood in:: The messenger has arrived. ::Simple, short, that was all without a wasted breath as she lead him up towards the ramparts, as the guards watched one and all...::
And we are sure of our reply to the fox? ::She seemed more asking than confirming, as if there were indeed doubts on the plan herself, that she needed him to confirm it for her, and perhaps even CHANGE their decision now... hardly an enviable position to be on that side of the conversation now as Kusaa awaited his word, just as desperately as the guards all around it seemed::

Donato woke up some while after Eula left to find the fire out and the back of his tunic still slightly damp. He stood up and stretched, thinking that perhaps falling asleep in a chair wasn't the best of plans. "Oops...." He stooped to pick up his cloak, then headed upstairs to change into a dry, unwrinkled tunic.
In a few minutes, he was back downstairs looking for Eula at the breakfast table. She usually woke up much earlier than he, she might have finished... Oh, there she was. He made his way through the usual crowd and sat down across from her. "Morning."

Turan paused, looking around at all the eager guards. Where was all this doubt yesterday? If Kusaa, or anyone else for that matter, had been so concerned, why had they not spoken up? That's what the council had been for. He'd not wanted to allow the fox to enter Redwall at all, especially with his obvious keen interest in Faith. But now here was Kusaa, watching him as if he were declaring the doom of Redwall.
While it was, all in all, his call, he couldn't go back on a decision made in a council of his peers. He knitted his eyebrows and nodded. "Yes. We'll tell the messenger that Radaz is to arrive unaccompanied and unarmed. He will be thoroughly checked for weapons, and he will not under ANY circumstances be alone with a Redwaller at any point."
-----------
Eula had refilled her plate and was on seconds of breakfast when she heard Donato. She glanced up and smiled a little, but clearly the embarrassment was back completely with Donato awake and sitting across the table. "Good morning..." she started slowly.
She cleared her throat and poked at her food, staring down at her plate. "Um! Sorry about uh... falling asleep. We were probably in the middle of a conversation or something, I don't even remember. Didn't mean to fall asleep though, sorry. And I didn't want to wake you up and... yeah."

AUUUGGGH, good morning Abbey! ::she came in the hall with arms in the air, stretching and yawning loudly, looking as if she'd just crawled out of bed which was probably the case. Sasha usually didn't make a scene when she entered anywhere (at least that was what she told herself) but she was in an odd mood that day. There was a lot going on, though Sasha was slightly out of the loop of things and although that frustrated her, it was nice for once to not be readily involved in something dangerous and urgent. She had actually slept in a bit that morning, wasn't that lovely? She passed Eula and Donato, ruffling Eula's headfur a bit as she walked past to take a seat beside her cousin and niece:: Good morning cousin ::she said with a smile, and then it got wider as she leaned down to Tracy, signing 'Good Morning' before she leaned in to kiss her nose::
((gotta make a big entrance for my returning post!!! ba ba ba daaa! *trumpets*))

Donato had begun to fill his plate with some scones when Eula started speaking. Why did she sound so embarrassed? He paused, looking at her curiously. Then, as she continued, "Oh. Oh, right. Don't worry about it." Anyway... "The conversation couldn't have been that important; I conked out too." He shrugged and poured himself some juice.
