3. Parents lately are working way too much and not paying attention to their kids as old parents used to.
2. School = pressure, for grades (parents) or fitting in (friends) there for if your not good at either of those two your a nobody = depression...
1. love life... come on if you have no friends and no parents to go to your gonna want someone to be with.. and this ends up in sex. thats why we have so many teenagers pregnant this days..

thats my opinion.
same here but peer presure is nothin wen ur a real comp nerd

I've heared some research has shone that depression may be caused by multi-tasking. Alot of teens have i-Pods and Computers and watch Anime, when you listen to music while watching Naruto ect., all of your brain is being used and some parts are degrading. That is mostly the parts that control emotion.

I think it's all about being cool! >< People are acting depressed and thinking it's cool (Emo? ^_-) and evertually become truly depressed for reasons I don't know. whee

Note: My name is a joke so I'm not being hypocritical about this.

There are a lot of sources of problems and depression for teenagers.

Hormones - Teenagers have a lot of changing hormones. This can cause them to feel things for no apparent reason at all. It can make them feel sad when there is nothing to feel sad about, and it can make already existing sadness even stronger.

Peer pressure - There is pressure to do things that they're not supposed to do. Drinking, drugs, sex, smoking, all those things that are so bad. Most teens try at least one of those things at least once, some a lot more than once. If they develop an addiction or a reputation from these things, it's nearly impossible to hide from the parents, who will only make matters worse. There's regret and mixed feelings, because of the conflict between what they want to do and what they should do.

Relationships - At this time in a person's life, they start to get really interested in developing romantic (and even sexual) relationships. They experience their first heartbreaks. And even though it's bad every time, the first few times are the worse. Add that on to the other problems, and you've got a recipe for depression all cooked up and ready to serve. Breakups, unrequited crushes and obsessions, sexual frustration, it can all contribute to a teenagers problems.

The future - This is one of the biggest stresses. "What are you going to do after high school?" so many people ask them. A lot feel pressured to go to college or a university. For those that do, it's a whole mess more of new worries. Getting good grades, doing well on the SAT, filling out applications, financial aid. And even after they get accepted, there's still a mess more of worries. How they are going to pay for it, knowing that any loans will have to be repaid later, what they should major in when they have no idea what they want to do for the rest of their life. It's all a big mess of stress.

Self-image - All of the people in magazines and on TV are thin, have perfectly clear skin, great hair. It doesn't help when people point these things out. Pretty much anyone has some flaws, and to that person, they're horribly aware of them. A slightly chubby teen could see themselves and being horribly obese, one with acne could think they're absolutely hideous and no one could ever like them, and hey, wait a minute, I'm describing myself here!

Fitting in - Everybody wants to fit in. Even those who say they don't care about what other people think still seek acceptance and can be hurt by disapproval. Teenagers are brutal to their peers. They can be completely tactless and downright cruel at times. These words can really hurt, especially when someone wants to fit in.

I don't think teenagers today are that much more depressed than those in the past were. People just like to look at the past with fond recollection, and look over the bad. Most of the problems we have these days existed back then, too. Teenagers have always been and always will be hormonal and depressed.

1. Clothes/fitting in. Some people get all depressed if they dont have the new clothes that are in stile. They think that they wont fit in as much, unless they got the best clothe. This causes a LOT of pressure and depression.
2. Music. Emo music can cause much mental problems. Another music type that i believe causes depression is rap. Some rap causes anger, which can turn into vilance. The victums or teens that witness such acts can become depressed.
3. Rape. I have not done any checks or anything, but it is my belief that this act is is done more often then in the past. And of course after being raped your doing to be upset, depressed, and have a BUNCH of metal scars!
4. Death. I dont know about everyone, but this is 1 thing that causes me depression. All my life ive been near the grim reaper. Family, friend, and others.
5. Life. People slit there rists or hang themselves. What is the point of life, if all u experience is sufering. When you try to think back over the years and cant find any trace of light that can compete with the dark. Existence should be about having fun, but that is no longer the case. As i wance read, we are like wounded rattle snakes. Lashing out at anything that moves. Its our way of survival. If we do not cause someone else pain, then our pain will never be numbed. We have to produce suffering, cause pain. Distroy everything.

Hi everyone Im new to the guild i just wanted to introduce myself. My name is speedomen as you can see....thats pretty much it, you can ask me questions through messages if you like. But yea...im ready for serious discussion or I can goof off real well too.

Depressed teenagers.........well why not? no im kidding, but teenagers I think could just be feeling sorry for themselves because they may not have a license yet or their parents dont let them have any kind of a drink because we all know "well all my freinds parents do it", and it could be horomones as one other person said. Being a teenager myself none of my freinds are deppresed and im happy with my life I think its a matter of who you hang out with and where you come from.

It's just a rapid growing from kid to teen to adult. It is simply a flood of new things to be experienced and the hormones are also going crazy. Pretty normal. Maybe I am twenty years old, but I am not really out of this stadium.

That was just about the single most un-intelligent thing I've ever heard. Saying that brought shame on you, your family, your neighbors, their family, and the entire human race!

One hing that hasn't really been touched on are bullies. Some kids go through life getting picked on and beat on through most of thier school life. I know because I myself was one such victim because of my strong faith, and the principle always believed the group over me because I was just one person, so most of my school life was miserable. Of course I have the satisfaction now of having served in the military for 9 years and making alot of good with my life now going out of the service whilethey're either in jail or flipping burgers.

teenagers are undergoing a change in their life that doesnt feel quite normal then what there used too. so instead of being happy and realizing that your body is healthy for undergoing such changes they sometimes get depressed and confused. also somtimes they don't really enjoy certain peoples company as much as they used to so they tend to act out and show some of the changes that they have been going through. also awkward social activity could be a cause of depression. visit my Exploring acne. page for details on that subject.

My opinioun
there is to much strees put on teen think about it
1 apperince (very big)
2 Cool (saying the right thing)
3 Money (if the parents r having trouble providing than that puts ALOT of stress on the kids)
4 School (Classes r to big so people don't get wat they need to learn and then they get bad grades because they didnt have the chance to learn so they feel stuped)
5 Parents (expect u to act like an adult but treat u like a kid, WTF)
6 Celebs ( this goes back to the apperince thing the celebs are corrupting everything, They show us wat we need to look like, act like, our moral values, and wat to think)
7 Parents Jobs (because parents work we have no way to learn wat is right so we get accustume to doing bad things and they just get worse and worse pluse now that we have no one to teach us wat is good/bad right/wrong we have to look at the Celbes for guidence, BAD idea)
8 apperince (did i already mention this we are told wat to look like but no one can achive that, if u dont balive me go to the mall and im 80% sure u will see a Large (fat) person trying to wear a mini skirt because that is wat she thinks she must wear)
Our society is corrupt, Im not one of those uber religoious people(by a longshot) no im one of the fat peolpe that cant stand the way that our society is run.

Well, I mean c'mon. Let's face it, a lot of teenagers are wicked depressed all the time.

But I mean it's at the point where you have just come out of being sheltered and ignorant about everything. Most people aren't fully equipped to handle what actually goes on around them.

Plus teenagers are a moody sack of hormones taking offense to everything and taking it all too seriously, or not seriously enough.

The fact that we're just kids explains so much. We don't have much life experience to know how to truly and rationally handle everything.

And yet some people were born to be sad. In all seriousness though, some people's families have had struggles with mental issue after mental issue. And that just makes it inborn to your hard drive.

And there is the fact of what did happen to you as a child. Did something totally awful happen, and how did you build upon that. Most of the children with a traumatic experience didn't handle it well. Either turning it in on themselves, or outward on everyone else.

And the horrible idea that the media influences what everyone else ays and does. The perfect object of being hot, or cool, or whatever it is you want to be.

How horrible so many people are in the world. What people are capable fof doing to one another can make a kid cringe. I mean knowing when you were really young that things were so easy and carefree, and now you have to worry about what is really happening to everyone around you due to the twisted minds of another human being.

It's always different for everyone depending on what influenced your life the most. But in the end you always end up the same way... a sad sack of pain that you just dont want to be anymore.

I'm curious, so let's have a good discussion on this topic okay? Because it's actually something I want to know and hear opinions on. I'm not an adult yet but I hear enough to know that it's true. I just want to know what you all think about this? We were discussing in school yesterday and I heard from one of my teacher that "kids/teenagers" these days have more to think/ do than "kids/teens" have in my teacher's kids/teen years...my teacher says that may be one of the reasons why there are so many depressed teenagers...

I personally think it's all the pressure around a teenager that makes them depress. Because they may want to fit in and it's hard to try to fit in with other who aren't like you or to satisfy your parents while fitting in with your friends at school. On top of that there's the Media showing people doing this and that and how cool it is, but most of things aren't even cool. I think that, that's one of many things that makes a teenage depressed....

What do you all think?

well its true ... im a teen myself, 13 this year. if u think bout it, the teachers used to have gr 13, so not every thing was soo crammed. If they dont fit in in skool they wont really wanna do work which will make marks go down and the parents will b pissed off also if u dont fit in u'll get picked on which sucks ... theres also the point of love ... if they have their heart broken its just like not fitting, when ur a teen hormones do play a part you dunno who u are and sum times get confussed ...

hows that 4 a immature teen in a intelligent convo? xD

I think depression happens when younger people reflect on their past. When they do so, they picture things being better and sometimes being worse. With these thoughts in mind, you come to realization that things will never change the past and you know you'll have to live on with whatever you have now. That's where I think depression comes from. There's actually a lot of other things that teenagers come across that lead them into depression. Peer Pressure, Neglect, Not getting what they want out of things, Jealousy, and other things. It's all in a matter of who the person is noting that every kid has their own opinion on things. So different things, react with different people.
The part about the past thing is what I totally agree with since I'm going through it myself. I just want to fix things but after I've said all the words I wanted to say and do all the things I wanted to do in my thoughts, reality hits when I open my eyes and I have to face never being able to do none of that.

To me I think depression stems from problems. This includes family, friends, and stupid little situations that you put yourself in. Not much but I'm offically a veteran of depression...
