I know we got screwed over my freshman year because we should have gotten a higher score at Chapter Championships. I don't know what the judges' deals were but that show was amazing and we knew it. My band director was really mad about it too and calmly told them that they were confused and that we deserved better than whatever they gave us. stressed

Last year, the BD pretty much screwed us over.
She was the new BD, just coming from the middle school, while the last BD took a job at another school that feeds in to the high school, because it's closer to his house. Anyway, she had little to no experience with marching band and decided to buy a show (which hadn't been done much before), and it was a poorly-written JAZZ show. (Jazz for marching is only good if it's done right... that show wasn't done right.) And then she scheduled us to compete in only four competitions in the entire season. FOUR! And no champs/states or anything. And then we only performed at three of them, because the final one (a tiny show that didn't matter much anyway) got cancelled due to a storm. There wasn't even a standstill (then again, the storm was pretty bad, so it's a little understandable why it was cancelled...)
And then there's another story from last year, of how color guard got screwed over by the woman who was supposed to be our instructor. She backed out at the very last minute, about a week before band camp. So our "instructor" was a high-school graduate who had been the previous year's captain, and that was only for a week. And then we had a DVD. Then the BD didn't realize that she could help us out until right before the "last" competition.
*sigh* Luckily, this year is going much better, though the percussion section is sort of in a situation that guard was in last year... Not nearly as bad, but still...
Oh, and today we had a standstill competition, and the first few bands before intermission were given awards (including us). We got the best in our division, best music, and best guard, but later on our instructor (we have one this year) told us that guard didn't even get scored. So while that's not really us getting screwed over, it still doesn't make sense. I mean, yes, we only competed against one other band in our class, but was their guard really that bad? Did they just not have any work? I'm still wondering this because we never get to see them perform, because they always go on right after us.

that happens a lot all over
more well known bands do better, bands with more money do better exet..
no offence to anyone in father ryan, but, father ryan beat us in every competition we were in against them, exept grand nats (their a private school, they have lots of $; our school is falling apart, we dont)
and their show, honestly wasnt that great. their gaurd stuff was more jumping on a trampoline, throwing balls, only a little bit of actually spinning
and they did warm up exercises more than songs. (their theme was like exercise)
and some of the better bands have gotten the upper hand. i know we havent gotten into finals at grand nats for a reason (were smaller, and other bands are better) but some ppl have won... and their shows have been strange (i do like avons show from this past year. thet WAS awesome)
