I am 1/8th Egyptian, so ever since I was a kid, I wanted to learn about my roots. Unfortunately, my father knew only about my Italian and Sicilian roots, so I kinda never learned about them. I knew that my great grand mother was 100% Egyptian, and that she got to Italy by being kidnapped originally, and that is about it. Now I am obsessed with Egyptian culture still, especially contemporary Egyptian culture!

Kidnapped? Oh no that isn't good! How'd that happen? ...well you don't have to say if you dont' want to.
I'm not sure, actually, I don't really have any way to get a hold of either side of my family, so learning more than I already know is hard. I do know I have an uncle in Lake Placid, New York that communicates with most of that side of my family. If I learn more, I'll post it. ^__^

^.^ Okay!

My parents bought me a book to get to know my heritage, and I loved to look at all the gold shinies (aka King Tut's death mask).

I believe it was a "gentleman" who I have long since lost contact with. He was/perhaps is a follower of Isis.

What first got me interested was the book of Exodus in the Bible, of all things. I wanted to know what made the Pharoah the way he was. I wanted to learn more about the culture that shaped him. So I started reading and researching, and I've been hooked for the last 15 years....

I got interested in Ancient Egypt via it's hieroglyphs. In a way, they spoke to me but I had since then given up the study unfortunately.

The thing that got me into Egyptian stuff was first a book then a really weird dream about the place. I then started to read and got hooked on the concept of Gods and Goddess etc.

Much like others here I became interested at a young age. My hometown was a shithole so I was pretty much interested in absolutely anything of the 'Orient'....in short, anything different, new, unique. We did a section on Egypt and I found it to be quite beautiful and interesting. Hell, we even did a large historical section on it in my Episcopal school, surprisingly, since it was pretty much a shithead Creationist brainwashing center and the ancient Egyptians had a cosmology that didn't involve the Christian deity. The only big problem was they insisted that to make it realistic we had to wear make up. This meant I had to wear eye liner and a few other things and being a male and all..well....NEVER AGAIN. gonk That said, my interest has drifted back and forth from 'very interested' to 'not so interested' since that time.

Wow, so many interesting ways that people became interested in Egypt! eek

I first became interested in Egypt when I was 10 and we went to visit our city's museum which, at the time, had an interesting exhibit on Egypt. I was really into it for a while, but then it got put on the back burner because of school and various other things. My interest in it never really went away, but just recently it was peaked again when I went to do research for an education lesson-plan project of mine. Since then, I've bought a couple of books on the subject, which I am currently reading my way through. heart

When I was in, probably, second grade I picked up a book in the library "because it was pretty" and devoured the whole thing. I did it again and again and again until I graduated from EIGHTH FREAKING GRADE. The book was Mummies, Tombs, and Treasure. After I read it that once, I researched Ancient Egypt as much as I could until I developed a deep-seated love for it.

I was also a Priestess of Bastet in a former life.

[M]y cousin had a PC-game about Egypt 4laugh It was very funny and enthralling. You are supposed to help the pharaoh to build a pyramid, and you get quests from Ra and Anubis (!) ninja

*excitedspasticfreakout* HOMG, that sounds like Pyramad! xd heart

It was a puzzle game where you had to match heiroglyphics by color and type to make a pyramid.

If you did it wrong, Yinepu would come out, tell you it was wrong ("You. . . did. . . not. . . even. . . try." xd ), and your pyramid would vanish so you could start again.

If you did it right, Ra would come out, say "You win" in this weird, tri-tone voice, and raise his staff; a bolt of lightning would shoot out, hit the top of the pyramid, and it would. . . vanish so you could start again. whee

I loved that game. . . I need to see if I can find a download of it somewhere I just downloaded it again and remember why I loved it so much when I was younger: it's wonderfully frustrating. heart whee

Anywho, back to what first interested me in Egypt. . . pure and simple, it was the mythology. I was enchanted by the animal-like gods and devoured every piece of literature I could find on them-- still do. 3nodding heart

That seems like a pretty cool game. xd

The game I was talking about was about the egyptian culture. A learning game. ^^
I enyoyed playing sennet with the captain, and trade items with people on the market. And you could make your own papyrus-paper in the old lady's shop which you later could use to trade even more items on the market. biggrin And Anubis yelled at you if you come back before you had solved the task he and Ra had gave you. xd

I don't know what the name of the game was in english, but in swedish it was "Gåtan vid nilens strand" (roughly translated: The mystery at the shore of the Nile)
The hardest part was when you are suposed to put together a text about the pharaoh. Something about someone called Nimaat-Re and Ra's son Khaenra...
It's a great game! biggrin I'm suprised that no one here have seen it? confused
