umeboshi~ a very, very pickled plum.
its one of the only japanese foods I cant eat. it is severly sour. i can drink umeshu though. its plum wine and avaliable in the US. $5-7 a bottle @ World Market or Publix grocery stores here in Florida (not condoning under age drinking!).
Extra info: In Japan I had the priviledge to eat Dolphin, whale, eel, raw horse, tuna hearts, fish guts seasoned with kimchi sauce, fish sausage, sea urchin, boiled cow stomach, cow tongue, turtle soup (Thailand) and some other stuff which I have forgotten.
( scream Dont flame me for the dolphin and the whale. We had a whole fiasco of protesters about the whales in Taiji, Wakayama. I am done with that. I love dolphins and I love whales but it is illegal to kill/eat them in the US (turtles too). Not so in Japan. Just experiencing culture from their view).
The word was umeboshi

(That is almost correct! It is written like this in roomaji though - nichingeeru. roomaji must always be correct or it is hard to understand.)
Nightingale can be uguisu
