☆ ☆【 A heavy huff of breath left the Lopunny’s lips as she shook her head and opened her eyes, pushing those thoughts aside for now. Thinking any more on the situation they’d found themselves in would only just make her brain hurt, she needed to stay focused on the task at hand if she wanted to at least do a decent enough job with what she’d volunteered to do. Which she felt confident enough in her capabilities for it… She’d dealt with eggs before and she had a very strong sense of motherly instinct, so based on that logic that clearly made her very qualified for this job. Right? Right…
Hm? Her eyes narrowed as she thought she caught sight of something in a bush nearby, the white and green spots of what was clearly an egg peeking out just barely from among the leaves. Just out of sight from anyone who was just passing through, but being the careful observer she was Marzipan was admittedly a bit surprised she’d only seen them just now. Walking over towards it, she brushed aside a clump of leaves and found that there was not one but two eggs that had been hidden within the brush. Now how in the world did these get in here? Surely the Chanseys hadn’t been that clumsy and absent-minded that they’d somehow lost track of them… Or at least she hoped so, because that was just a terribly done job on their part. Or maybe another Pokemon had left them here to keep them safe? Green eyes cautiously glancing around, she couldn’t see any others that were close by aside from her Cybun acquaintance. But a part of her couldn’t just leave these eggs behind, they’d never hatch being left to sit around like this. Carefully adjusting her impromptu blanket pouch a bit more so there was a bit more room, the Lopunny gathered up the two strays and gently nestled them inside, making sure that the other eggs could fit in comfortably enough with their new nestmates. 】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【 With the two new additions now settled in comfortably among the rest of the eggs in her blanket papoose, Marzipan felt she could breathe a little easier now knowing that they were somewhere safe. With the way they’d been hidden to ensure that it would be difficult to see them, maybe whoever had put them in that bush had done so deliberately… Though how long they’d been there up until she’d found them, she had no idea… She would hope that another one of the volunteers who’d shown up to help hadn’t just put their eggs in a place just out of sight and then ran off to Arceus knows where. Still, if no one else had come by to claim them, then she supposed that it was well within her rights to take them in under her wing for the time being. And if whoever was in charge of caring for them happened to return and wanted their eggs back, she supposed she’d hand them back over. Of course, after giving them a stern, parental talking to about responsibility and caring for the life of another Pokemon, even if they hadn't technically hatched yet. 】☆ ☆

What an odd state to exist in, being partially hatched. But Cheri didn’t question Cloud further on the topic. She’d seen her set of oddities after all, Noah was back to being an Oshawott and so if he could find a way to de-evolve, then there was no real reason to question why a pokemon might continue to sport its shell.
"I see. That makes sense, protection is important. And your shell is very pretty, you should keep it even after you evolve." Could he do that? She didn’t know. The Togepi hadn’t exactly spelled out that it was permanently attached to his body.
"Good, awesome is just as good as special. I think in fact they’re the same. Did the round one give you trouble? She seemed worried I couldn’t hatch them, but I think we can " Her head bobbed in a nod before toddling over to her wagon. Where was his wagon? She picked up one of the bigger eggs and presented it to Cloud. "They might hatch into special things." She eyed the egg and then shook it like a shaker for a moment. "This one is heavy, I think it will be a big special." And with that she put it back in her wagon, snatching up the handle and turning to Cloud again.
"Yes, you can wear them like a crown. They make a tasty crown." She tugged the handle to move the wagon just a bit, gaze still on Cloud. "I think I’ve talked to you before, Cloud. I think we will be great friends. Do you like cotton candy? I like cotton candy, especially the pink flavor. Also, where is your wagon? How did you carry your eggs?"
☆ ☆【 Alright, crisis hopefully averted for now… Marzipan made a mental note to keep an eye out for any more eggs they might come across that had been misplaced or left behind, since apparently that letter the Abra had given them mentioned that they needed help because of eggs that had been lost. She would certainly hope that there weren’t volunteers around who thought this was some sort of free vacation and took it as an excuse to slack off from the task at hand. But in that case, she supposed if someone would have to take responsibility and pick up the slack for them, it might as well be her.
The sudden violent shaking from within her blanket pouch caught her attention once more, and already she can see small cracks starting to spread across the surface of the egg’s shell. Ears perked up in alarm, Marzipan quickly picked up the hatching egg so whatever came out of it wouldn’t accidentally crush all the others in the pouch, placing it on the ground as bright white light spilled out from within. With a loud ‘CRACK’, the egg shattered open, the Lopunny quickly shielding her eyes as a glaring flash emanated from the spot, revealing that the baby Pokemon inside the egg was... 】☆ ☆

"D'aww~" Cloud crooned with modest embarrassment and clutched at his face. "Thank you! I think I get to keep it." He'd seen other Togetic before, and even the rare Togekiss, but he'd never spent enough time with them to ask about their shells. Well... it was more like he'd asked them about everything but their shells.
"Uhmm..." He had to rack his mind to see if he'd come across a "round one" before. It was a pretty quick trip down memory lane: he'd only met two pokemon since arriving— and both of them were pink! "Oh! Do you mean Chansey? No! She didn't give me any trouble." To her bold–but totally, 1000% accurate—statement Cloud bobbed his head vigorously. "We'll be the absolute best egg caretakers!" There wasn't a doubt in his mind!
Just look at the way the pink pokemon was shaking her head! Cloud made sure to give all the 'oohs' and 'aahs' appropriate for such a reveal; which was a whole bunch. "I wanna see how big and special it'll hatch up to be!"
The more they talked the more it felt like Cloud knew her from... somewhere, this was all so familiar somehow. And then she said it: cotton candy, and a light bulb went off in the Togepi's head. "GASP!" He remembered now! "Cheri Berry, it's you!" Giddy with this sudden reunion, he rushed to Cheri to hug her with all the might a moving egg could muster. "You like pink cotton candy because it's the same color as you!" He couldn't remember everything they'd talked about but he certainly remembered the important bits!

☆ ☆【 As the glare from the flash of bright light as the egg finally hatched faded away, Marzipan uncovered her eyes and turned to see what it was that had come out. And… it was quite an interesting looking Pokemon, that much was for certain. It looked a fair bit like a strangely colored Ditto, or at least it had a pretty similar looking body composition. Its body was amorphous and jelly-like, and glistened with a silvery, metallic sheen that seemed to hint that it was some kind of Steel-type, most likely. Though in place of where its face was, or where it should be, rather, it sported a head that appeared to be a hexagonal shaped piece of what was likely some kind of yellow colored metal with a dark, glimmering orb floating within its center.
The hovering sphere shifted about slightly within the center of the head like structure, seeming to indicate that it was likely the Pokemon’s eye, before it settled upon her in particular. The metallic head seemed to tilt slightly to one side, the newly hatched Pokemon seeming curious or unsure… It was honestly quite difficult to tell since it didn’t have a mouth or even any eyebrows to make visible expressions with. The blob-like Pokemon was such a tiny little thing too, just barely taller than her ankle at most… Keeping the distance between them for now so she wouldn’t scare it off by accident, Marzipan slowly bent down on her knees to make herself look smaller and less intimidating to the newly hatched Pokemon. Giving it a warm smile, she held out a hand towards it in offering, her movements slow and deliberate since sudden movement could potentially startle it. ”Hello there, little one,” she greeted softly, using her gentle, motherly tone of voice to ease any nervousness the young Pokemon was probably feeling having just freshly hatched, ”It’s very nice to meet you~”】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【 The strange little blob-like Pokemon watched her, its body wiggling ever so slightly as it seemed to be bouncing somewhat in place. It’s sphere-like eye moved about as it seemed to rapidly shift between floating up and dropping back down lower, likely sizing her up from what Marzipan could assume. Seconds ticked by as the newly hatched Pokemon kept its distance, before it steadily started to make its way closer, its shiny amorphous body rolling along atop the grass as it appeared to glide along the surface of the ground. As it came within reach of her slightly outstretched hand, the little Pokemon paused once more, appearing uncertain of what to do from here for a moment before reaching out one of its nubby hands towards her.
Marzipan blinked in wonder as its tiny rounded hand finally brushed up against hers. Rather than feeling sticky to the touch as its ooze-like body would suggest, it had a rather smooth kind of texture to it, and seemed to feel quite solid despite the clearly liquid state of its form. It even felt slightly warm to the touch, oddly enough… And now that it was closer, the Lopunny could see from her higher viewpoint that it had a short red tail as well that seemed to vaguely resemble an electrical wire, which was twitching back and forth slightly. Upon feeling the soft fur of the taller Pokemon’s hand under its own rounded one, the Meltan’s eye actually expanded in size a bit in wonder as it curiously ran its hands down along her arm as far as its little body would let its reach. ”Mel, mel!” it gave a warbling, cheerful sounding chirp, red wire-like tail now wagging behind it in earnest as it leaned in and happily nuzzled its metallic head against the Lopunny's hand. 】☆ ☆

"Chansey." Ah so that’s what it’s name was. Cheri would tuck that information away in the back of her memory in the event she ever encountered them again. Which was highly unlikely to occur any time in the future. If she could help it.
Cheri was pleased that Cloud understood the importance of the situation at hand. They’d hatch (or crack if it took too long) so many eggs and find the biggest and most specialist of prizes. Whatever those were. If only she’d had a bigger wagon.
"Cheri Berry. Yes! Hello Cloud, it’s nice to meet you." She said; if there was any amount of delight it didn’t show. Cheri was ever the bright pink entity of lacking emotion. But she was happy to meet him! Because this was a colleague, a pokemon of culture much like herself.
"Yes, I like the pink flavor. I think it’s what I’d taste like if I was cotton candy," she poked him gently in the middle of his face where one might’ve expected a nose to have been. "You liked the blue flavor, is it because you’re bits of blue? Have you had any cotton candy lately? How is the Hugo?" In fact now that she thought about it, they ought to seek cotton candy to give to the eggs when they hatched. It was only fitting they too learn the joys of the cotton sugar fluff.
It was nice to catch up with someone on her level. Lafayette was hardly a wealth of conversation even when psychic abilities were involved. The rest of his team weren't big talkers either. She hadn’t spoken much to either Micah or Ori, Dova was a child (or a pet, Cheri still wasn’t sure) and Eve was still shy, despite being with them for some time.
And Noah? Noah was dumb. Something she had frankly pointed out to him before being sent off on this task. But he was (probably) miles away, helping hunt for stars. She’d likely be cleaning up his mistakes when she got back. A shame really.
For now, though, she was going to enjoy her time with Cloud and hatching eggs in search of the special ones that chose to slumber in their eggy confines. One way or another.

Cloud pulled away from their embrace with a poke to the face and bubbling laughter. "Mhm! It's blue and soft and fluffy, like a cloud! And I'm Cloud too!" He was very impressed that Cheri remembered his trainer, impressed and pleased as could be: he loved talking about Huester. "Huebert is great! Sleeping a lot lately, but that's probably because being a human is tiring; they can't do a lot without us." Little-big Huey especially counted on him and his friends to help him out.
"We haven't had any cotton candy lately though." Cloud sounded a bit disappointed with this reveal, but he perked right back up a second later. "We should look around the island more! It's boring just standing around," he suggested, but he was already making to leave. "Oh! You asked how I carried all the eggs, right? I do it, like THIS!"
Now that he had an audience, he made sure to 'call' to the eggs with a grandiose flourish: he didn't just waggle his arm, he spun around once as he did it. One by one, the eggs lifted themselves into the air as if they were being pulled by invisible strings. "Tada!" Cloud gave another spin and the eggs glided over to hover just above his head before all five began rotating in a slow circle.

☆ ☆【 The Lopunny smiled as it seemed the strange little metal blob Pokemon had accepted her, seemed now she had two little children to look after and protect. With a chuckle, she reached out and gently stroked along the odd Pokemon’s smooth, metallic hexagonal shaped head, the small blob giving another happy sounding little chirp as its eye sphere shaped itself into an upturned U, seeming to indicate that it was feeling quite pleased. Interesting… Marzipan had never seen a Pokemon like this before either, much like Cybun this was probably yet another one of those particular species that not many really knew much about. Seemed she was meeting all sorts of odd and unusual companions today, and all things considered it probably wouldn’t be the last time.
Granted, it would be nice to actually have someone else to talk to rather than being the one to have to try to make one-sided small talk with others that apparently weren’t capable of speech in the same kind of capacity as she was. But she supposed she could deal with this as it were, she’d dedicated herself to being a kind of guardian figure for these two smaller, clearly not as experienced Pokemon and she wasn’t going to go back on that vow. Still, she kind of wished Choux could’ve come with too at the very least. The Indeedee was a fair bit like her in some ways, constantly worrying about the well-being of others and being a naturally very caring and nurturing Pokemon too. How unfortunate that it seemed it was limited to only one volunteer per trainer… 】☆ ☆

☆ ☆【 With a soft, high-pitched warbling murmur, the tiny Meltan backed away just a bit yet stayed fairly close to its new guardian, eye sphere shifting around in its head as it was taking stock of its new surroundings. It could see lots of this soft green stuff all around the ground around them, and more green things that were larger and had a much different shape. It could sense how cool the air and the ground felt in this area, the trees above providing a good amount of shade above them. And it could see a lot of what looked like colorful little… balls? Well, not quite… Some of them were clearly more defined shapes that it wasn’t sure of how to describe, and they came in an array of bright colors as well.
Rolling along the ground as it approached one that seemed to be somewhat on the mushy side, the Meltan reached out and gently touched it, the sphere-like eye widening in wonder as the cloyingly sweet scent of the berry tickled its senses. Surely that meant it was edible, right? Curious and honestly feeling quite hungry after only just hatching from its egg, the silvery blob reached out and began spreading its liquid metal body over as much of the berry it could reasonably cover given the size difference between them. Almost immediately, the Pecha berry began to slowly dissolve and be absorbed as the Meltan’s ooze-like form began to break it down for use as sustenance. Mmm… Honestly not half bad, but… Somehow even after feeling sufficiently full enough after a good portion of the berry was ‘eaten’, the Steel-type didn’t feel quite as satisfied even from what would surely be considered a good-sized meal for it.
All the while, Marzipan watched with fascination, she supposed it was to be expected that such a Pokemon would feed primarily by absorption since it didn’t have any visible mouth. However, the Meltan didn’t seem like it was quite as content with a berry as a meal as its eye sphere scrunched into a downturned U-shape to indicate a frown, looking up towards the Lopunny and shaking its head. ”Hmmmm… Would you prefer something else to eat, then?” she inquired curiously, wondering what else could possibly be more appealing to it as food. There were probably stores of Pokemon food back at the nursery area, would make sense since they had to keep all of the Chanseys and Blisseys that worked here on the daily well fed at the very least. Maybe it would want something more like that to eat instead? 】☆ ☆

"That is good. Sleep is good, my trainer is very bad at sleeping when he should." The Aussie was probably slipping into unconsciousness as she uttered those words. Hopefully not while flying because that wouldn’t end well. "They really can’t. It’s tragic, I don’t know what humans hope to accomplish with how squishy they are."
It was disappointing to hear he hadn’t enjoyed any cotton candy lately. Neither had she now that Cheri thought of it. A matter that she’d rectify when she returned to Lafayette. Her head bobbed in a nod and watched Cloud levitate his selection of eggs into the air. "I see! That is very impressive," she hadn’t considered using her psychic skills to carry the eggs. A wagon was just easier. She tugged the handle and started to toddle after Cloud and out into the rolling expanse of the island.
"Where should we go first? How do you think they lost all these eggs all over the island?" So many questions, so little time.

"How can anyone be bad at sleeping?" Cloud wondered aloud, it was the easiest thing in the world to do! You just... closed your eyes. "Why is he bad at it?" It was no wonder that Cheri was so smart and helpful: she was helping her trainer out so much! "Mm, me neither." He gave a big ole sigh. "Good thing they have us!"
There was so much to see and so many places to explore, and now that he had Cheri he had someone to share this with too! This was quickly turning out to be the coolest 'surprise spots' he'd been sent to. "Do you wanna take the eggs swimming?" Cloud suggested, his gaze focusing on the sparkling lake in the distance. "Or... maybe we can look inside a cave! Or... oh oh! Go to the beach." They really had a lot of options. "Maybe...." The Togepi tapped his chin as he pondered Cheri's second question. "Someone is... rolling them down from where we started and the eggs find their way to a new spot?" That didn't sound right though... "Oorrrr, some psychic pokemon are just teleporting them here from EVERYWHERE, and the eggs just go where ever."
That sounded like a better explanation. Rolled eggs couldn't create those great big piles like the ones he'd passed earlier.

Sugar makes me wide awake, but not for him." Was there any truth to what she was saying? Yes. About sugar. The rest was kind of sketchy. "Does Huebert eat a lot of sugar?"
Cheri perked up at the suggestions laid out. Cloud gave so many good options, she was glad to have him there. She pressed a paw over her mouth, unblinking gaze looking around as they walked. "I think taking the eggs swimming would be good. They might be water eggs and they would like to be in the water." Special came in all forms after all and they ought to indulge in all of them. "If they’re being teleported or rolled down hills then they probably need a bath. Special and awesome eggs deserve to be nice and sparkly when they hatch." There were some steps missing in that logic certainly. Cheri glanced back at her wagon as it hit a rock, and everything jostled. Hm. "Teleporting them would be much easier. There are too many rocks."
