To say that Jay was more than a little bit stunned at the man's very sudden request would have been an understatement. His eyes grew wide, brow extending up and out as well in the few seconds he was given pause. He could fight back the smirk that wrote itself into his face in the moment. The KPD's shining stalwart star believed himself worthy of more responsibility, and Jay wasn't averse to the idea in the slightest. In fact, having Kenshin be his right hand was something that had crossed both his and Jeon's minds in the past. Kenshin was trustworthy if a little intense, and more dedicated than anyone else Jay new. To say his willpower could even outshine his own was something a less prideful Monkey Sage would have easily given up. He knew of his accolades and accomplishments, hell Jay credited a lot of the villages makeup to Kenshin: he had feverently fought against crime and made sure people feared the long arm of the law in the five years since the twins came into power.
But what Jay did not expect was that Kenshin would challenge him to a duel. He motioned for Kenshin to follow him to he large area of the academy where the cieling was missing almost year round to give way to a beautiful sunny sky, dotted with slow moving clouds that leisurely blocked the sun rays for minutes at a time. "You know... Jeon and I put a lot of faith and trust in you Kenshin," Jay began after listening to the man speak. "You put a lot on yourself... just like Jeon and I do. It shows in how you hold yourself, how you administer the people. Our people." He distanced himself, walking to the opposite side of the room and taking the ornate naginata, a red scarf and countless charms hanging from it's neck as well as beads wrapped around the pommel at the bottom, from his back. He allowed it to touch the floor, dragging it behind him as he reached a weapons rack (for some reason in the academy) and also wrapped a length of chain around a loop on his belt. When he stepped back into his ready position just ahead of him. One foot behind, one ahead, with his weapon held pointed at Kenshin. He narrowed his eyes slightly, trying not to betray his excitement. "Of course, I accept your challenge, Kenshin. I do hope you didn't think that Belamos was the premiere polearm specialist here." With that small jab he would hold fast until his opponent was ready. Once the two got going, there would surely be little time for words.
Jay fully planned to test every bit of his head police officer.

__ Kenshin followed the man as he led him to a courtyard space. His words that followed gave him honor and recognition that soothed his deeply ingrained hardship and sense of inferiority derived from a shameful background. As the Lord Arashikage prepared himself Kenshin stepped to the other end of the courtyard. He unsheathed a white rapier that was always mounted at the duelist's hip. He looked forth at the ornate naginata and took a moment to appreciate the craftsmanship. "Not your everyday polearm. He's going to have a lot more reach than me." Kenshin analyzed with a sense of wariness. His own white foil, Purity, had an ornately designed basket hilt and a cloud inscription in the blade carved in by Lord Shiro when he first became a genin. The sword had served him well for all of these years and felt tethered to his very soul.
Once the epee was unsheathed he performed a salute with the blade to honorably acknowledge his opponent in the classical tradition. He reared his left foot behind his right foot and squared his stance. "En garde!" With that, he would begin the duel. He formed a half tiger seal in his right hand. "Byakugan!" Kenshin felt a rush as his field of vision was near infinitely enhanced. He then rushed in as fast as he could and thrust his blade towards the sage's stomach with incredible speed and precision. This fencing attack was simple and served more as a warmup.

En Garde! It was on. When the Byakugan activated, Jay tensed just a bit, prepared to see what the man had. He was fast, that was good to see. His rapier didn't have the reach, but it was nowhere near as weildy either. Still, to think that either of those facts would make a huge difference was insulting to both fighters. Jay was ready for the movement, using the full brunt of his reflexes to perform a swift counter-attack. It was a simple maneuver, and his strength and speed turned the attack into something much more powerful. He made a subtle movement with his polearm to the left, his feet as stable as tree roots as he thrusted forward which would have, certainly, knocked it off course. This skill, however, also had the added effect of allowing him to barely extend the weapon and bring it down, blade first, over Kenshiro's shoulder. If he didn't avoid that attack, he would have easily dug the weapon into his shoulder.
Excepting that as a conclusion, Jay wouldn't be caught resting on his laurels. A Violent pull would bring the weapon backwards and he pivoted to bring it full circle as quickly as he could. The threat range of the attack was his chest, and he aimed to carve a line directly out of his chest with the weapon. As far as opening acts went, this was certainly the calm before the... Storm.

__ When his thrust was deflected by the kage's counterattack sparks flew off of the clashing of steel. Kenshin jumped back on his toes, which allowed him to evade the attack's attempt to dig into his shoulder. A spectator would barely be able to see the incredibly quick flashes of movement between the two fast combatants. Kenshin then moved his torso back in a backward duck allowing the polearm to fly in a line just over Kenshin's face in an evasion. He watched as the powerful naginata passed over him. Immediately, he rose back up and would move in for another attack to the right. However, at the last second, he dashed in for his true attack to the left which would stab his blade forward and towards Jay's right shoulder.

It was true, to any onlookers Kenshin had become a flash of steel and decisiveness in each and every movement. The sparks lagged behind them, still falling by the time Kenshin had cleared the slash coming at his chest. Jay was not surprised Kenshin avoided that attack. Hell, if he hadn't then it would have probably bode ill for the rest of the spar and his aspirations. Just as fast as his attack reached the apex of it's crest, he let go of the naginata, sticking to the principles of the jungle: everything was expendable at the end of the day. This was a response to the faint, and though the movement was fast Jay was just as quick on his toes as Kenshin. They were both melee warriors, and near 20 of his 25 years had taught him well to always be ready. The Axel Rain attack came at his right shoulder and Jay stepped inwards instead of simply dodging back. He cleared under the weapon in a confident near miss just as Kenshin had, two fists balled up in a boxer like guard though this wasn't what would more likely than not draw the KPD officer's attention. With the all seeing eye of the byakugan, it was far more likely that he would see Jay's foot quickly snap at his own ankle aiming to break his footing. To follow up, in a deft motion his center of graivty would quickly shift, his opposite foot striking like lightning and aiming to crash into his skull. Decidedly upping the ante a bit, Jay had put more speed and force into this attack than he had the one prior, and he was interested to see just how Kenshin could adapt to the sudden, slight escalation. If he wanted to excite Jay, the time was slowly creeping up where testing the waters, as it were, would have to end.

__ When Jay gracefully dodged his blade just as well as he evaded his sideways naginata cut from before, Kenshin had to prepare for a counterattack especially with the unexpected dropping of his weapon. It was natural that his opponent would move to escalate the tempo of the spar. Any move from such a powerful combatant no matter how simple had to be carefully considered. Kenshin saw him click his foot in a maneuver to knock him off balance and immediately released chakra from every tenketsu point in his body in a powerful response. When he did so he began rapidly spinning in a heavenly rotation to guard himself against the man's taijutsu. The master sage's foot would quickly and powerfully crash into the rotation and neutralize against the chakra shield as well as his own spinning body that was of supreme fortitude. He had suspected that the Arashikage would be gifted in hand to hand combat as well as weaponry. After his spin was completed, he thrust his rapier forward and unexpectedly released a gust of chakra in a vacuum palm like a bullet aimed directly toward the man's chest. Now it was time to show his leader what he was really made of.

So the man could move well. When his chakra pumped out, his rotation was just timely enough to stop his foot, causing the two to clash and for Jay to have to back up a step from the recoil. This put his Naginata back in position for him to simply kick it up into the air and snatch it just as the rapier's tip was pushed at him. His immediate response was to harden his skin, but even that wasn't something that would entirely help. The air wave wasn't something Jay had expected to be honest, and as such he was caught unawares when it struck. He was carried backwards by the attack, but stabbed the polearm into the ground in order to stop it from carrying him to far back. He took only a second to assess the damage, which was honestly substantial, but figured it was nothing his own ability to resist damage hadn't accounted for. With a smirk, he hopped, standing on the pommel of his weapon with perfect balance as he ripped the weapon from his side. He'd flown about 20 meters backwards, and he had a good 20 meters of kusari gama on his hip. At his touch, the weapon immediately lit up, screaming with energy. Before Kenshin's eyes, the Chidori Nagashi technique would increase the threat of his weapon. The sound of chirping birds echoed throughout the academy now, everything dark by comparison to the weapon, which was now spinning over the Kage's head. With a snap, the entire length of chain, and it's weighted end, would be loosed at Kenshin's head, fast and direct with the intention of concussing him and shocking him as well.

Chidori Nagashi Rank: A Official Description: Chidori Nagashi is a Ninjutsu technique developed by Uchiha Sasuke out of the original Chidori technique. Instead of merely focusing the electrical force to his or her body, Sasuke is able to extend it outside of his or her body and through objects which he is holding. This allows him to create a protective zone around his or her person. This zone of electricity can shock and immobilize his or her foes, presumably by attacking their nervous system. Used in conjunction with his or her Kusanagi sword, the blade becomes almost unstoppable. It takes on Chidori's natural ability to cut through anything which stands in its path, allowing the sword to strike its target with ease. __ Kenshin watched as his vacuum palm emitted from Purity landed squarely on the target. The damage his byakugan analyzed was considerable, but he clearly did not take the full brunt of such a powerful attack. "He's tough." Kenshin analyzed that the Kage had a sense of sturdiness. He then watched as the Sage stood atop his weapon and jumped back to put some distance between them. "He's making this a long-range battle now." This was something the police officer had to account for. The area then darkened as he watched as powerful lightning consumed his secondary weapon, the kusarigama. Kenshin was familiar with this jutsu, having mastered it himself. The concussive chain scythe was sent his way with incredible speed. The Sentinel then sheathed his weapon with incredible speed before weaving numerous hand signs together. As he did so, he squared his stance and inhaled deeply before releasing a sphere of wind as tall as himself. This large concussive vacuum bullet would then clash with the kusarigama chain and neutralize the lightning enhancing it with ease before blowing everything back towards Jay. The bullet was aimed directly towards the man's body and was of similar size to him. This attack was in an effort to display Kenshin's strength with ninjutsu. Kenshin then formed additional hand signs as lightning chakra covered his entire body in an armor. In addition, he fired chakra out of every tenketsu point in his body to create condensed swirling heavenly chakra that would coat his skin as well in a powerful layering. The Jounin wanted to begin fighting with his full power now and draw out the Arashikage's true power. He wanted to see the storm and prove that he could whether it. Officer Kosei stood like a rock and waited for powerful retaliation as he felt concussive chakra through him and heavenly swirling chakra grace his skin.

"You really are some sort of rare genius!" Jay would say as the man's ninjutsu shattered his mundane weapon's weight. Chakra flowed through him, his discipline as a mystic hero coming to fruition suddenly. Kenshin's speed and determination was something to be inspired by. However... Jay was not the sort of ninja who was easily placated or defeated. He held up a hand and several balls of flames like ghostly specters burst into life, all launching at the vacuum sphere at once, overwhelming the attack and turning into one large ball of flames that would home in on him in an upward arc from where it had met the vacuum sphere. As if that wasn't enough, however, Jay continued allowing his chakra to flow until it was surrounding his body. A swirling ball of water roared to life around his body as he released the chain finally, scythe end hitting the floor 6 feet below his actual feet. Around the left side of the mass of flaming terror, a tendril of water moved, intending to pierce his body while Jay's own body seemed to glow within the sphere of protection he had made for himself.

Vivian's sensor range picked up on someone coming towards her. With a turn of her head she found Shosan coming her way. The man was someone she hadn't seen in a while. "Need something?" She asked the man without hesitation. The woman was about to train and to an extend didn't wanna be bothered, however as he was someone from Otogakure it was slightly more important.
__ Kenshin's intense focus on the battle was interrupted by Jay's compliment. His goal for the spar was to impress his leader and that certainly seemed to be happening. He then watched as flaming apparitions attacked and overwhelmed the vacuum sphere he created before forming a giant fireball that was hurled in his direction. As if that was not enough, an equally powerful water tendril would follow it. Kenshin noted that his opponent had access to the water, fire, and lightning nature transformations. The Hyuuga clansman also analyzed with his byakugan that the man's chakra reserves were in greatly better condition than his own. Fatigue began to set in after using three incredibly powerful S-Rank techniques at once, which had depleted his chakra supply beneath the halfway point. With two high powered ninjutsu techniques soaring towards him at impressive speeds, Kenshin was immediately forced to act. The Jyuken grandmaster formed a one-handed hand sign before moving his arms at an unrivaled speed. He was moving even faster now than he had been earlier. Sharp chakra blades left his fingers in the flurry of hand strikes and completely overwhelmed the fireballs and then water whip. The pair of mighty ninjutsu were annihilated and neutralized in the wake of the chakra blades which were intentionally used to combat the duo of jutsu and would cause no harm to Jay. As ash, smoke, and splashes of water from the tarnished techniques surrounded him, the Shinobi Sentinel moved his right hand to dust off his left shoulder to tauntingly indicate no harm as his stare intensified. "If I'm going to win this spar I need to lock up his chakra now. It's time." Another string of hand seals were formed before he moved his hands behind him and released a massive amount of wind. In a blink, he appeared in front of the Arashikage once more as the wind left much of what was behind him in ruin. His hands then moved in a blur as his fingers were coated with a high amount of finely precise chakra. He lunged in with his right hand to hit a tenketsu point in the Kage's chest and if contact was made then the incredibly fast precision strike would overwhelm the lightning armor and land a powerful combination of three hundred and sixty-one palms that would lock every tenketsu point off from use. This was the pinnacle of Kenshin's power and countless hours of training had led to this. In five years, Kenshin went from being the genin who could only fight the remnants of a nearly destroyed UHV platoon to being able to fight toe to toe with the very man who initially damaged that platoon and was a hero of the war. Kenshin deeply respected this man and would hold nothing back.

"Whoa. Impressive how you noticed me so quickly, haha," Shลsan would smirk widely and place his hands on his hips, shaking his head as he came to a stop a few feet away from the woman. "Anyway, you're from Otogakure, right? I remember hearing your name when I was a kid around the village," He'd say with a resonating calm tone. "I hear you're strong. I haven't really practiced with anyone since... Belamos, really. I think I'm a bit rusty, so I'd like to train with ya.. if you don't mind, of course."

[x] Five years. That's how much time had passed since the lives of the members of Kirigakure fell apart. Part of me wondered if it was because of Jack's death, but in the end I suppose it didn't really matter. If it was related, it took its time collapsing.
Not that it really mattered, because I'd left long before that. Not necessarily by choice, but it is what it is. After losing my memory, something went wrong with Jack. I was whisked away with him along with the island. We wound up...somewhere where he was able to look into the future or something like that. It's hard to say because he never explained anything. But that was the way he had always been. Regardless, he found a way to bring my memory back through it. Somehow that led to him losing control, and I was forced to take his life.
That event brought with it the rumor of a crystallization curse, which I got to view first hand when it happened to his body shortly after death. I never even had the chance to bury him. I thought for certain, during the about six months of wandering after that it would only be a matter of time before it took me too, given proximity when it happened, while I hunted down the rumors, but it never came. Eventually I chose to settle in Kumogakure, who were allies of Kirigakure at the time, working as a sort of mercenary in exchange for shelter. I moved onto Arashigakure when the Cloud Village grew beyond its boundaries, but never officially took allegiance to the place. I was always free to leave whenever I pleased. But I didn't have anywhere to go. I couldn't go back home; even if they did accept me back, I had killed the former Mizukage. Besides, as far as they were concerned, I was dead as well, and I'd been careful to keep it that way. Kagerou, assuming she got my letter, was the only one with even a clue I was still alive.
Now, of course, the problem came in that, after Kirigakure fell, several of its members moved to Arashigakure. While I hadn't bumped into any familiar faces yet, it was likely only a matter of time. I might have to pack up and leave, or risk letting myself get attached again.
For the moment, I intended to use the village's resources to the fullest extent I could. Training, a workshop, and a steady source of money by taking jobs as requested, I'd built myself up fairly well.
The academy was pretty busy today. Which was loathsome because, if possible, my insomnia was probably worse than it ever had been. That was partially my fault, spending late nights either researching, tinkering, or drawing. But it wasn't entirely. Once one had gone through trauma, even if I was near immune to it externally at this point, it still haunted me through the night. Most nights I was lucky to get a couple hours of decent shut eye. So most of the time I didn't even try. That led to naps throughout the day, or just passing out on occasion if what I was doing was monotonous.
Finding a secluded space I could actually do anything came harder than I'd hoped. The Kage himself--or one of the Kages anyway, since twins ran the village--sparred with another member of his shinobi. Several others I recognized and could probably put names to if I cared enough were likewise around. But I had no interest in interacting. Just like always, I had every intention of retrieving the scrolls I needed, training, and leaving.
Despite gaining the ability to use Suiton chakra--which I attributed to Saiken's presence--learning water techniques was something I'd never really gotten around to. I was somewhat self-conscious at my experience training basics but basics existed for a reason; oftentimes, they were incredibly useful anyway. My focus required conserving as much chakra as possible. I had a large pool, thanks to the bijuu, but I intended to be able to outlast my opponent through prior preparation. With how little sleep I got on a regular basis, anything that wasn't prepared ahead of time was likely to fail. Hence my focus on fuuinjutsu.
Tangent aside, I hid myself in a far corner of the academy, as much out of sight of others as I could. Having retrieved scrolls I was interested in learning, I unrolled the parchment and read through the techniques listed. The first listed was probably the most useful of them. Mizu Soujuu was used to both create--to some extent--and manipulate water. If no existing water was available, it could pull moisture from the air instead to use in techniques. Larger techniques, of course, still required a water source.
This was, in a way, a test for my arm. Recent upgrades to it required breaking it in again, but I could move it much more fluidly than before, which was the plus. Making a quick handseal, I focused chakra between my hands and drew water vapor from the air to the chakra, effectively infusing it. A small orb was enough to convince me it was working perfectly fine. I released it a moment later and let it fall onto my left hand. [Mizu Soujuu Learned]
That decision allowed me to move straight into the second technique. Mizu no Waruasobi was a cheap trick used to flick water, or sweat--or slime, in my case--into the face or eyes of an opponent, effectively blinding them and making it a bit harder to react. The simplicity of it was its strong point; people tended to underestimate the basic steps. Since I didn't have a target, I simply charged the water on my hand with chakra and flicked it straight forward, watching it fall harmlessly to he ground. [Mizu no Waruasobi Learned]
Using Water Manipulation, I created another small orb of water. The next technique was a mirroring technique that could be used to create a reflection. Handy for seeing around corners and such. It was a bit situational but if I had the mental capacity to think about it, I could probably come up with plenty of uses. Especially if I used it through other water techniques. Could also reflect light off of it to blind someone. Holding the orb of water with one hand, I utilized my learned ability to cast single handed and turned the orb into a mirror... briefly before I let it fall to the ground as well. The final two techniques of the basics were more on the offensive side than supplemental like the others. Uo Tsuba allowed me to gather water in my mouth and fire it out at an impressive speed via chakra. It wasn't particularly damaging, but could hit hard enough to stun someone. A brief couple of hand signs, and I gathered the chakra-filled water in my mouth before firing it at a nearby wall. Easy enough. It was a bit of a surprise attack, meant to catch people off guard with the bit of force behind it. [Uo Tsuba Learned]
Mizu no Yaiba was probably the most useful for me, mostly because I wanted to keep my opponents at a distance. Hand-to-hand was not my strength. While I'd grown much stronger over the last several years, it wasn't exactly something I had a lot of experience with. Everything I did was prepared ahead of time, after all. Not to mention the sword it created out of water grew in strength and size the more chakra one put into it. Wanting to keep my one flesh hand as unscathed as possible meant I kept it out of combat as much as possible. Also meaning most techniques were focused through the puppet right hand. After the hand seals were complete, I forced my chakra to take shape on the arm, extending a good couple of feet past the end of my finger tips. A short blade for the moment. The armor of lighting persist even as Jay allowed the swirling sphere of water to dissipate in the face of Kenshin's oncoming attack. It might have been silly, but the Kage did want to see what the man was going to bring to bear and as such, he simply allowed him to close the distance with only his forearms blocking his face and his body braced. While the flurry of attacks didn't manage to shatter the lightning armor or actually break his tenketsu points, his protection didn't stop him from feeling the impacts of each attack the Officer had launched his way. His body was notoriously strong once he'd gotten some time to actually start fighting, so he wouldn't be outright ended by the attack. Still, when the impressive flurry of blows came to a close, Jay was still standing and reacted with speed that would probably catch Kenshin off guard considering he'd just taken the brunt of such a powerful attack. He caught the man's hand in the last of the attacks, eyes focused and shining with the focus and power that had turned a farmboy into not only one of the most powerful, but one of the most lethal ninja in the shinobi world. Even Shiro had gotten a taste of what he had to offer, and Kenshin was about to see even more of that power. The intensity of his precise expression was only mirrored in the speed of the strike he loosed, driving a powerful punch into the gut of Kenshin's torso. As if that weren't enough, the blow would send him flying backwards, possibly into a wall but the Kage was fast enough to fling himself through the air towards kenshin, offering a single spin before bringing down a lighting charged fist that would more likely than not end the fight. Holding back against an opponent who had bore their very soul was not something that Jay could allow himself to do. Jeon would be so disappointed in him.

Raiton no Yoroi [ Lightning Armor ] Rank: A-S [Learned as S] Official Description: Raiton no Yoroi in a Ninjutsu technique which utilizes the Lightning Element.
