Little Miss Shiny
What he'd see in her expression was a sort of wistfulness mixed with longing. It was several moments more before she made any indication that she noticed he'd joined her, that luminous gaze remaining on the statue though she spoke to him. "She's lovely, don't you think?"

A quiet, unbidden hint of amusement struck him -- not at all at her expression, which he filed away with a touch of puzzlement, wondering if she were perhaps having one of those moments that young ladies often did, where they compared themselves to each other and found themselves lacking.

No, that touch of amusement was that Kyouya Ootori knew exactly how his best friend would respond to that question. But Kyouya Ootori was not Tamaki Suou. "She is," he said thoughtfully. "And very tranquil. Almost a strange thing to be, with so much energy underneath?"

"Mm, yes strange indeed. She cannot contain what is inside, it is stronger than her earthly body, and yet... calm. Almost joyful." Completely comfortable inside and outside of her own skin. Some day, Shining One. Some day.

Shiny turned to smile at Kyouya, "It sounds as though the rain has let up, and in good time, too. Was there anything else you wanted another look at?"

Kyouya shook his head. "No, but thank you -- and thank you for the trip." They would pass by most of the exhibit again on their way out, anyway, unless they cut through the dampness of the garden instead. Which he supposed they could; there were a few pieces out there as well, though they were part of a permanent installation, and ones he had seen before.

Whatever else he was about to say was interrupted by a soft growl from his stomach. "Ah." He had the good grace to adjust his glasses, a touch embarrassed. "Perhaps I contradict myself, and would like another look at something edible."

The sound of his hunger had her blinking momentarily in surprise, and then biting her lip against a giggle. "I am certain there must be somewhere nearby we could grab some food, if you'd like? Though we are not far from my house, either, and my fridge is near to bursting with leftovers of all the food I've been making recently. I always seem to make too much, and then never manage to finish it all."

Hm. There was a soft pause, as Kyouya considered the merits of her suggestion, careful calculations flickering behind those glasses. "If it's no trouble," he conceded, "that might be more interesting than a restaurant. I don't believe I've had the pleasure of tasting your cooking since the train trip, and there's no sense in letting food go to waste."

"Tres bien!" Clapping her hands together as she beamed, clearly pleased with the decision.

With that settled they made their way back to the museum entrance to retrieve their umbrellas, then it was into the car and off to Shiny's relatively modest-sized house, fairly small compared to the large and well-tended manors in the neighborhood it was cozily squeezed into.

"I have only had Tsuki and Mori to visit so far, but I feel like it would be quite fun to entertain friends more often." Explaining with a smile as she unlocked the gate to let them into a small stone courtyard, then across it and into her home.

Kyouya studied Shiny's home with the same eye for detail he used when meeting someone for the first time. A home said a lot about its inhabitants. This one was ... comfortable, he decided, and he'd have no objection to lingering in the courtyard during better weather. The style was an eclectic meshing of modern amenities with traditional style -- functional and appealing.

"Thank you for having me as wel, then," he said, following her in. "Your home is very charming. How did you come by it?" This particular neighborhood faced stiff competition for its homes, as he recalled, and something as well-designed as this, on the lower end of the budgetary scale, struck him as a purchase that would either require phenomenal luck, or knowing the right people.

"A bit of rare luck, really." And a giant pile of money, though Shiny really wasn't the type to even think that part worth mentioning. "The previous resident was a shut-in who had passed away, and the family had just finished renovating to sell when I started looking. Aside from redoing a bedroom into a ballet studio upstairs, I didn't have to change a thing."

As they entered the house two tiny balls of fur leaped out, one feline landing impressively on Shiny's shoulders as the other launched itself into her arms. The fallen star laughed warmly and nuzzled them both, before turning to Kyouya, "Ah, introductions are in order. This is Solar, and Luna. I adopted them from Mori." She kissed each on the head, then murmured to them in French, something that sounded like 'hide in your room, I will bring treats later.' to which the felines jumped down and scampered up the stairs.

"Now then, do you wish a tour, or would you prefer simply to get right to raiding the larder?"

"Very cute." Kyouya was quietly surprised that they hadn't decided to attach themselves to him. Cats had a habit of doing that -- he supposed out of sheer perversity. But they were gone in a speedy orange-grey blur, so he let the thought drop.

"I do not think I'm apt to die of starvation if I spend the time to view your home," he noted with mild amusement. "A tour would be very nice, unless you would." He'd found the place to be quite calming so far, with its rich yet simple traditional wood framing. He favored minimalism, and what he saw in the entry struck a nice balance between being simple and elegant, and yet homey.

Shiny wasn't certain if Kyouya was an animal person or not, however she seriously doubted he would want to make friends with her kittens, so she sent them off before they had the chance to decide it was time to claw all over him.

"Ah, of course! I am happy to share my home with a friend. Come, it won't take very long." Once they removed their shoes and moved through the small entry to the main living space. It had a low table, several floor cushions, a plush couch, and an enormous flat screen mounted to one wall. The rest of that wall was filled almost entirely with DVDs.

Two alternate doorways led to a dining room, and to an enclosed garden.

"Hm, this is nice." Kyouya quietly approved of her choice in decor; it was nice to have the option of the floor or something with a back. He was mildly surprised at the DVDs blanketing the wall -- she'd never struck him as someone who'd spend that much time watching television. Well, maybe she amassed them while she was a recluse. But something seemed wrong about that hypothesis ... what was it? It tugged at the back of his mind; he shelved it for later.

A quick glance at the titles told him that her tastes were eclectic, ranging from sub-par Japanese anime to foreign films to classics, and everything popular in-between. Interesting. "Heh. You said you had Mori over? If he tells Honey, don't be surprised if they invite themselves over for movie night." He was teasing, of course, but the two of them did seem to love their movies.

"My choice? Perhaps the garden?" he said thoughtfully. "At least since we have a break in the rain." This didn't stop him from taking a quick look at the dining room on the way by.

"Oui, he stayed the night of that incident with the bullies, to keep watch and ensure I was not badly concussed." If Shiny's face turned a bit pink while saying that, she'd never admit it. Mori had been a caring friend and an attentive nurse, nothing more.

The dining room was also simply decorated, with a few tasteful hangings and a couple pieces of pottery in the corners, a low table in the center currently covered with cut up fashion magazines, a laptop, and a notebook jammed with plus-size clothing ideas.

As for the garden it had some old stone statuary, a small fountain, and several rows of tidy herbs. The rest was bare, waiting for spring to bring it back to life, with a covered walkway and doors leading to the dining room as well as the kitchen, and an exterior stairway to the rooms upstairs.

The more Kyouya saw, the more the place struck him as comfortable. Simply an easy place to live in. Nothing too extraneous, everything quietly tasteful or practical, though he knew precious little about plants. He identified one or two, and supposed that perhaps Shiny was using the herbs as part of her ongoing efforts to teach herself to cook.

There was just a momentary pause as he took in the ... well, he supposed he couldn't call it a craft project ... on the dining room table. He mentally rifled through her classes, and didn't find anything he thought would fit. "May I ask?" he nodded at the pile of clippings.

"Hm?" She looked to see what he was referring to and belatedly realized she'd left out all her research. "Oh! Mey-Rin. She asked me to teach her how to, ah... be beautiful, as she said it. I told her confidence is the most alluring trait and promised to help her find hers, and have been researching on how best to help her feel better about her appearance. It seemed a good place to start?" Her tone taking on a questioning note as they went back into the entry to head up the stairs to the second floor. "What do you think?"

At the top of the stairs was a hallway with two doors on either side. She gestured for him to take a look into the first one, which had wood floors instead of mats and one wall entirely covered with mirrors and a ballet barre. The room across from it was the kittens' domain, set up with an enormous climbing structure, several cardboard boxes strewn about, and a variety of toys.
