The hardest song I ever played was this piece from Julias Ceaser, I think. The music, its self wasn't that hard. No, the hard part was that we only had one copy (we were practicing sight reading) and had 10 flute crowded around one stand. It was horrible....
Then we sight read this other piece, I forget what it is, but I think it was....Talkovske (sp?) And that one was long!
This other piece we were goign to do for a concert, Symphonic Prelude for an Awful Lot of Winds and Percussion, was hard, because you had to keep a straight face through it. That's hard when you've got the brass just buzzing on their mouth pieces, the clarinets gargaling water, and the saxs just blowing on the reeds!

My band played "Blue Shades" by Frank Ticheli this year for concert band contest. It was difficult, but really cool. It's probably the hardest piece that I've played.

Oh ho, I love that song. xD Reminds me of the time we played Overture to Candide. Had like two weeks to learn it, but it wasn't too hard. xP

I can play it now, but yeah, like 3 years later. poor 7th grade me. I'm glad I moved because now I'm not considered the appitamy of sucks, I got to my new jr. high and made first chair and I guess I'm good for my age or something at my school and yeah now I'm just chattering on and on sweatdrop

Vesuvius by Frank Ticheli, I LOVED it, and it was also awesome that we played it for a couple of months, due to the fact that it was our festival music. But, yes, it was hard and some parts I couldn't play due to the fact that I didn't practice this past year, or any year before that, but now I do. We played it at both our state and national festivals this past year. I loved it to death, and now I'll probably never hear it live again. gonk

Forgot the name of it,, but Remember everything else,,, quarter note equaled 220,, it was 152 measures long,,, my band director said that he never ever wanted to use that with his band ever again,, we were able to play it but getting in tune and using syncopation was almost impossible.. flutes can play fast but even they got lost some clarinets lost about three reads in a week.. it was bad..

I agree with you on that whee I absolutely love his work...I was so envious when my clarinet teacher bumped into him back stage :Gonk: he's the pacific symphony's conductor's friend, and I believe he was a residence composer [thats what it said in ze pamphlet thing...] for them too whee . I also found out he's a good friend of my BD... whee I LOVE his works soo much...especially sanctuary, its really beautiful ^^;
