All in all, once she got a drink into Mike and he relaxed a bit, Klara had to admit that she had fun. It wasn't as if she had joined the band yesterday; she had known the boys for a long time, and she was really good friends with all of them. They were good guys when in their element, and when all ten band members (only a few of them went busking at a time) were crowded around a table talking and laughing and cracking jokes and singing songs, Klara couldn't help but feel like she was back at home in Prague. She still remembered how her 14th birthday party had been so full of family members that she couldn't even hear herself think, but she had been filled with such a warmth, surrounded by people who loved her, that it had all been worth it. And, of course, once they all had a drink they were more than welcoming to Tomas, and painfully friendly in a way that Klara knew would torture him even more than if they were being rude.

Once dinner was over and everyone had moved their chairs into a circle or sat down upon a box to talk over coffee or tea, Klara nearly missed Tomas slipping out into the hall. But luckily the trumpet player had taken a shine to the man and yelled after him. "HEY COME BACK MATE! PARTY HASN'T EVEN STARTED YET!" Klara looked up from the corner she'd been hiding in to draw just in time to see Mike ducking out into the hall after Tomas.

"Uh, hey man," Mike said a bit awkwardly, catching up to Tomas and tapping his shoulder. His accent was a peculiar blend between Irish, British, and Scottish. "I, uh, just wanted to apologize. I was sort of bein' a jerk and it was wrong of me. I know you're Klara's friend and...and well I really love her a lot and I don't want to mess things up with her again." He looked down at his feet and blushed. "Come on back to the party and have some tea; we're all gonna play some music, and I'd really like to hear somethin' of yours!" He smiled hopefully then and nodded back toward the apartment.

Tomas could hear the trumpet player call after him, but he was more interested in getting out of there. He jumped when he felt the tap on his shoulder. He turned, hearing Mike talking. He paused, wondering what had messed him and Klara up the first time. He mentally shook his head, and smiled at Mike. "Probably already heard my stuff. Plays on the radio at least once every hour." he said with a laugh. He thought about disregarding the apology, being a jerk like he had. Then he thought of Klara. He didn't feel like tearing the small stitches in their friendship he had created.

He thought for a brief moment, wondering why it mattered. In a week she would be gone. Probably to never see him again. He wanted to run, and hide. His heart had been full of so much else that he had wanted to happen when he found Klara again. Yet the reality was so much harsher. He couldn't let go. He didn't want to let go, no matter how unbearable the pain was. He sighed, "Guess it won't hurt. In a way." he mumbled, he let his gaze meet with Mike's, unable to hate the man that had stolen Klara from him. Only because she seemed happy.

He smiled, thinking maybe he'd get one last chance to sing with Klara. He hoped so. Several songs he and Klara had made together flowed through his head. Yet another, new song made it's presence clear to him. One that he didn't need to sing in front of these guys and Klara. Only because it would betray his true feelings. He shrugged, having all this running through his mind in a matter of moments. "Sure. Let's get back to the party." he said normally, even though he was sure Mike had probably heard his earlier mumble. "Don't want to keep them waiting." he said with a forced chuckle as he slung a friendly arm over Mike's shoulder, towing him along as he headed back into Klara's apartment.

Klara watched with one eyebrow critically arched as Tomas dragged her boyfriend back into the apartment by the shoulder, a smile tugging at one corner of her mouth. Mike looked startled and only a little frightened, but when he looked up at Klara he grinned apologetically and she smiled back. At least it seemed like they were getting along now, and that made her happier than a clam. Then, catching her spacing out, the trumpet player Morris leaned over and blew a raspberry on her collarbone, making her squeal with laughter. She smeared her charcoal-covered hands all over his face to get him off, the both of them laughing riotously. Morris was such a good boy. He reminded her of her Josef, her brother who had died so long ago. At first Mike had been jealous of their close companionship, but once she'd explained he was alright with it.

Colm, who was Irish and played the violin, started playing some old folk song, and within moments everyone had picked up their instruments and started playing along, turning the simple ballad into a full-on anthem. Klara drummed her fingers absently on her apron while she continued drawing, intently focused on the stick of charcoal in her hands.

Tomas lightly clapped in rythm with the music. He couldn't help but smile and laugh with song. He even laughed at the interaction between Klara and the guy he'd been talking to almost the entire time he'd been there. He hadn't brought his guitar, sadly enough, and he felt the familiar itch in his fingers when he felt the urge to play. He heard the lyrics that he had thought of in the hall continuing to form themselves in his mind, but he would deal with those later. He sat awkwardly, smiling the whole time, but antsy. He wanted to play.

Klara looked up from her easel for a moment and smiled when she met Mike's eye and he gave her a little nod. She really was proud of him for swallowing his pride to go talk to Tomas. She then turned her attention back to her old friend, and saw that same old twitch of his fingertips as he fought the urge to play his guitar. She looked back again at her boyfriend and smiled endearingly. He rolled his eyes, but acquiesced and pulled his guitar out from its place under the bed. "Here mate, I'm tuckered out, you take care of Annabel for me, yeah?" he offered, offering the guitar to Tomas.

Even though she knew that he was just doing it for her, Mike's little gestures made Klara happier than she had felt in years.

Tomas blinked, having not noticed the interaction between Klara and Mike. He looked at the guitar, admiring it before gently taking it from Mike. "Sure. Mind if I play?" he asked, looking at the other. He looked back at the guitar, smiling. "Wow. It is sleek. Definately better than my old guitar." he said with a chuckle, glancing at Klara. "Still got it, even though my manager doesn't let me play it on stage." he laughed, "Says it's to bland." he chuckled. He could remember the times he went without polish to help make his old, slightly battered, guitar shine.

Mike nodded courteously. "Go right ahead mate. I'll be sleeping over there," he said with a casual nod over his shoulder to the dark bedroom. Then he shuffled away, leaving Klara blushing like a schoolgirl as she watched him go. Then she mentally shook herself and turned her attention back to her drawing. She was an adult, for goodness' sake, and she shouldn't be embarrassed! But the boy she loved once was sitting maybe six feet away and she couldn't help but feel a bit ashamed. Still, she couldn't help but put down her charcoal and wipe her black-dusted hands on her apron to listen if he started to play.

His guitar had been what had spurred on her love for him in the first place, she recalled suddenly, and a divine smile spread across her thin lips. It had been some of the darkest of her days, and she had been wandering listlessly through the streets of Seattle, waiting for a reason big enough to make killing herself seem more logical in her mind to come along; then she had heard that guitar. It had been almost three blocks away, but she pushed and shoved people out of her way as she ducked and weaved between them in search of this beautiful golden sound, and then came to a sudden stop when she found herself standing directly behind that beautiful boy and his beautiful music. And she had loved him that day.

That day she had begun sitting twenty feet away from the boy on the curb, so he wouldn't see her but she could still hear him. She had been there for a full month and six days before he noticed her for the first time, and after that it had taken another three days to get up the courage to respond when he spoke to her. Things had been so different then. She had been so young and naive, and he had seemed so mature and free even though he was even more trapped than her. Now the roles had been reversed, but she was feeling better about it more and more lately.

She looked directly at Tomas then, wondering if he could see those memories shining in her eyes. "Sinful," she commented on Tomas' tale of his manager not letting him play his guitar onstage. "That guitar has more soul than any in the world."

Tomas laughed, seeing the memories in her eyes. He remembered as well. He settled himself easily, the guitar on his knee. He bent his head like he had always done, strumming gently on the guitar. Once he found the right sound, he began to play. It started slow, and soft. One that he and Klara had played often.

As the tempo started to pick up he began to sing. He lifted his head, letting the words flow from his mouth easily as he always remembered it. After a verse finished, he fell silent playing the guitar. He wondered if Klara would sing with him like she used to, but didn't really expect it. He just kept playing, hoping. He was also trying to keep from singing the song of hurt that was swarming his mind.

Klara couldn't quite believe it. He was really playing their song. Memories hit her like a ton of bricks, and she was just barely able to keep the shocked look from her face. However she carefully trained her face into a neutrally interested expression as she casually got up and drifted over to the little electric keyboard in the corner and started playing along. No one knew quite how to follow along, because the tension in the room was so high. At least that was how Klara felt. Before she knew what had come over her, she was no longer in her own mind but in Tomas' parents' apartment, five years ago. They were practicing for the talent contest. Her lips parted of their own accord as she began to sing the harmony as easily as if they had played it together the day before. Her heart ached.

((Soooooooo sorry KT! I'm having issues with my ex fiance... that's why i haven't been able to get online recently. It really sucks.))

Tomas looked over at Klara and smiled. He laughed alittle, and began singing along when it got to his turn again. He continued to play, seeming to get into it more. As he watched Klara play her keyboard, he somewhat forgot about the others that were in the room. It was just himself, and Klara. The scenery seemed to change. They were in his old bedroom, practicing for the big talent show.

((it's alright; I just didn't want the rp to get bumped to the next page ^^))

Klara felt the change of scenery as well, until she closed her eyes and could see the sunlight streaming through the windows and feel herself sitting on Tomas' bed with the keyboard pulled up close. She didn't remain in this fantasy world for long, however; losing herself in memories had proven not to be a healthy choice for her in the past. The song came to an end just as her head started aching, and the boys all clapped appreciatively before Morris started playing a jazz piece on his horn. Klara smiled across the room at Tomas before getting up and disappearing into the kitchen, one hand covering her mouth.

Tomas blinked, wondering if he had upset Klara. He carried the guitar, but followed after her. "Klara?" he asked, "I didn't mean to upset you, if i did." he said, letting his eyes fall on the girl he loved.

((yeah... sorry this wasn't much of a post... i'm getting a real hell-raiser here in RL.... what with being in love with a married man and all.... it kinda sucks... the odd thing is he loves me and actually feels like he's cheating on me when he has to go back to his wife... then again she's an abusive b***h that buried a butterfly dagger in his leg just for calling her a b***h... @_@ god... i'm going insane. Sorry...))

Klara was hunched over the sink, coughing and sputtering and, if she had eaten anything with the rest of the lot, would have been ill. At the sound of his voice echoing in her ears she spun to face Tomas and crumpled to the floor. Her limbs went rigid and tremors shook her whole body for only maybe ten seconds before they stopped. Then she lie prone on the floor, coming back to herself slowly and groaning when she realized what had happened.

((lol plot twist! Thought you might wanna shake things up a bit, to cheer you up! smile ))
