No...
Okay...it's been a while, so let me give a major hint
We've established it's a crystal of some sort, as I've all but given that away. Now, thinking in terms of crystals, reread the riddle.

Hmmm... maybe a tiny bit of clarification is needed here as well... that first line is best understood if ye don't try to connect it with the physical qualities of the stone itself... and that is the only clue I'm giving on this...
Sorry, Kero... but when we wrote this it made so much sense, but then we knew what ye were talking about... looking back at everyone guesses so far, I think it needed a little better guidance xp

Yer probably right....they're not always white. The ones I have seen, however, are...Photowise, at least....and the white version of the stone is the most well-known where I am from.

phosphor or sand?
I'm sorry I'm not really good at riddles you need to know stuff for sweatdrop I'm more into the thinking riddles that you find in the middle of the night and scream 'Eureka' for, while the answer is actually just a rubber ducky...

You don't consider a pearl a "crystal" do you? That's the only thing left I can think of that even vaguely could fit this riddle, and even then, it's a huge stretch.

close...very, very close....let's split the riddle in two
The latter half describes the stone's properties: It is known for being able to lift the veil of the future, and is a symbol of purity.
The former half should make this obvious:
Whiter than the highest clouds I wax and wane with time...
I used to write riddles like this, that make no sense when read as a whole, but are meant to be split apart into their component couplets...figured in my sequence of twelve crystlline riddles, I should at least have one of them...
