And like I said, you're only there part of the time. lol Um, excuse me but n r band guard IS ther the whole time. We play r instruments during concert season. & sum of us r better than the ppl who play year round. & as a whole r guard stays on time. @ r big competition we go 2 every year ppl were worried bout the guard messin up r bands score but u no wat? We got the highest guard score @ the competition. & r band didnt. Percussion got the highest 2 i think. Idk no bout ur school, but r guard & percussion hav respect 4 each other. & a good point was made earlyr bout percussion & guard havn a lot of extra practices. So mayb u shud figure out exactly wat ur talkn bout b4 u go sayn stuf like that. um, excuse me but ths topc is ovr. it's been ovr 4 a whil now kbai talk2hand

Maiko-sama Speaking as a percussionist, I would probably decapitate myself if I tried to twirl something and march at the same time. I can't even twirl a pole standing still! In my band, the drumline and the guard both have extra practices and work harder than the rest of the band and while yes, we have to learn notes, they have their own "notes" so to speak. Whether it's a beat on a drum or a certain formation, both groups have to know what exactly they are doing on every count. In that sense, I don't think guard and percussion are that much different. Additionally, in general, if you mess up playing something in a drumline, unless it's major, chances are the guys between you will cover it up. If you mess up in guard, you have a big shiny pole or a big colorful flag and people are going to look right at you. That's a lot of pressure I wouldn't want for myself, so I have a lot of respect for the guard. Just my thoughts on the matter. You rock. Iloveyou. xDDD

I hate the guard at my school with a passion. They are all stuck up and think they're so amazing, when they fail. -_- Our school literally has the WORST guard in the district. We have no guys, and they have to accept whoever wants to join because they lack people.
Don't get me wrong, I respect what they do, I dance too and I know it's work. But those flag poles are usually shoved up their arse with their high and mighty egos. My best friend is in guard [We were friends before that.] And she's all 'GAWD! So and so thinks she knows so much about dance because she takes a school dance class. No. I KNOW about dance because I'm in color guard and they need to shut their mouths before they look like idiots.'
Of course, I got off to a bad start with guard. Being a Freshman in pit, the guard had all of their flags and rifles up on my heels and I didn't realize when I had my foot on a flag and by accident and the chick came to get her flag, it ripped, and we almost got into a fist fight. >w< -Cough- She started it. She went psycho on my arse.
Anyway, no offense to guard you guys. :] I LOVE watching other color guards preform, I just hate ours. -_-
They put tape outside of the door of the guard room and said NO BAND KIDS CAN PASS THIS POINT.
Which pissed me off. So I put ductape out outside of their box to the guard room, which is in the band hall that said NO GUARD CAN PASS THIS POINT.
I mean... really? It pissed me off. So I was bold. But I'm a freshman and seen as immature. xD I probably am, but they provoke me.

Not all guards are alike, and I'll admit that the guard can be as girly and snobbish as a stereotypical cheerleader sometimes. But so long as you understand that not all guards are like that, I'm not going to argue about it. My marching band and colorguard are the best in my state. We win just about every competition we go to. The band works hard, and the guard works hard. The colorguard doesn't merely play with a flag and run around the field. It's the colorguard's job to supply the color and movement that brings the music to life. The guard is the emotion of the music. That's their role in the band, and I'd say that makes them part of the band. I think it's been established that the guard and percussion should be lumped together, so I'm not going to say anymore about it. It's beating a dead horse by this point.

You might want to change the title to closed or something if you want people to stop posting.
Btw: a guard that spins at once: Black Watch or Field of View

dude really. it makes me so mad when people say stuff like this. if you think that guard does so less, than go to a big competition. we were at a big one, and we had already played and we were all celebrating and watching the other bands perform. a trumpet tripped, a percussionist fell over him... and guess what? two guard members came up helped them up while STILL spinning their flags. it was absolutely amazing.
also, at my school, our guard teacher is also the head director for band. you say something like that. you get lectured, for a while. and, she makes you spin flag, rifle, saber, and makes you learn the guards routine for a week. and if you don't have it perfected by then, then your moved to last chair percussionist, and you can't play in the next game.
^but also about that, it goes for any instrument/section you diss^ you talk about tuba, you gotta play that and perfect it, trombone, flute, sax, sous, clarinet, trumbone...anything.
alotta people got really pissed at this one(: i would watch your back if i were you... and every other part of your body as well xD
[[ oh yeah, i know this is closed by the way, or it's said to be anyways, but it kinda worked me up xD plus i cant sleep cus i just drank two monster energies(: and i so had to share that story with you guys ^-^ ]]
