Anyone heard of Hell Girl?

I actually really like that anime; I think that it was dubbed very well too.

But I'm afraid to ask many others, as I'm positive that this would be instafodder for the cancer of fandom. I wanted to read things like Death Note and stuff, but the fandom I've seen has totally thrown me off. *side rant*

never heard of it, what's it about?

and I know what you mean about Death note. I personally don't see what the fuss is about, I didn't like it very much.

Seriously.

I hate how people are all like "but its a deep series with a lot of symbolism!"
^ and that makes it a better series how???
Why the heck do people think that if their favorite series has some sort of half-assed symbolism or some "cool fights" that its the greatest thing ever put on the planet?!

Death Note is s**t.

Death Note is s**t.

Funny how you say that...

I love the series and I...really don't see any symbolism (even if there is, who cares). Plus, it's not any more deep or serious than the plot of Naruto or Trigun. I like it because it's more of a serious manga. I'm not just riding on the fact that there's no jokes in it at all, I just happen to like the idea. Plus, I'm a fan of controversial stuff (this being one sort of) and when I saw it, the "dark" theme turned me on a bit (you know what I mean XD)

If I ever met a fan of Death Note like that, I'd personally rip their spine out. They don't deserve to even gaze upon the pages of the manga if they're like that.

I mean...you can't base the fact that you like a manga on the fact that it's deeper and stuff than others. I like it for that too (not crazily), but I also like it's dark theme and the storyline in general. So call me what you will, but I actually like Death Note for...itself smile

Anyways...about more serious manga...I want some...but...it's hard to narrow down. Out of all mine, I've gotten it down to Fullmetal Alchemist, Tsubasa, Trigun, Hellsing, Rurouni Kenshin, and Shaman King (and kind of Case Closed, but I just like detective and mystery stuff, plus there aren't too many "humorous"/non serious scenes in it (at least that I saw). I know they do have jokes in them, but I'm basically looking more upon the fact of how serious they are and how well-planned and interesting the ACTUAL plot is.

Then again...I am a fan of the Dark Manga a lot more for some reason...I mean...Shonen Jump seem to turn dark when it went advanced because the two manga's I have from it (Death Note and D.Gray-Man) are both pretty dark-natured (plus I believe Claymore is too and I want that manga now). I dunno...either way, more seriously-inteded manga (as in manga that are written to be like a book with pictures, not just...entertainment (hard to explain really X_X)) is kind of what I want in general. I don't hate the jokes, it's just I hate how they overwhelm pages and even whole chapters sometimes...

@Colin Jasper -
Yeah, I don't see any in it either, yet every rabid fan that mentions it on the AMC talks about how "Symbolic" and "deep" it is. And i'm like, WTF?! I mean, even if there was, it doesn't make it any better than any other anime, am I right? Anime is anime, whether it be deep, symbolic or whatnot.

Dark and serious stuff i like, but death note simply isn't for me. [ love Cased Closed and Rurouni Kenshin :333 ]

And I don't mind if you like it, just don't try and force it down my throat ^^
That's where me and a fandom goes wrong [ also how I got to hate FMA so much ^^;;; ]. And I won't call you anything!! you haven't given me a reason to, I'm not one to call people things, unless you seriously piss me off.

And since you're searching for more serious manga, I think I shall recommend Spiral! It has some funny moments, but overall is serious, and is a detective story like Case Closed! :333

Hah! Holy balls, I just read something!

I don't know if, your avatar being a girl anyways, you are a girl, but I just realized that Death Note is supposed to be for boys (Shonen, right?). I mean, I'm not saying that was a mystery but still kind of funny since I think you're a girl (based on your avatar XDD I know, Im lame. I don't run through everyone's intro, sorry).

But if you are a girl XD (god I feel so stupid now), then maybe that's why you didn't like it? I dunno...I mean...Dragon Ball Z (not that many people like that anymore XD) and Bleach and Naruto are all for boys too, but obviously have girl fans. *shrugges* just made me chuckle a bit I guess.

Claymore is a pretty serious/dark manga. it's also pretty awesome. Another pretty Darkish one is King of Thorn. Not sure how great the plot is though, as it kinda resembles a horror movie, but it's still an interesting read. I've yet to come across something funny in it. Except for perhaps a giant frog.
can't say I know of many more, but if you know some good ones, point me in that direction, I'm a bit of a fan of dark stuff as well (though my friends have yet to realize this. . .).

I'm in your fandom...

XD funny funny

I like DBZ, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and Yu Yu Hakusho... Fighting/I'mma kill you dead things interest me...
I'd name more...but I figure this isn't the place.
To answer thestarthatshines' question:
Hell Girl is a bit difficult to explain, but I'll try.
There is a site that is called hellcorespondence.com and people who want revenge on someone they can't deal with in their lives will write down the said person's name. The person gets a message on their phone stating their message was received, and basically a girl called Ai Enma will seek you out to exact your revenge. There is a catch, while the person sends their enemy to hell, they are contracted to go to hell when they die for the service given. It is actually far more interesting than it sounds...

...shanking your sues.

I am really a girl too and I do watch some shonen. I was watching DeathNote last night, well the episode I recorded Sat. so my boyfriend could watch it with me. He said to me, " I didn't know you like this kind of anime." I was like where have you been, and I already told him that I watch some mecha, shonen, random, shojo, etc.

It doesn't matter who the intended audience is, if its good, people will watch it.

Death Note isn't considered deep if you watch the anime XD
Seriously trying to put all the subject matter of the manga into the anime is like shoving a hippo in a blender... it just doesn't work... and that never ends well <.<;
Edit: I read translations of the manga before they came up with the idea to shove it into an anime in japan... So I read it all almost a year ago <.<;;;
Edit 2: Has anyone seen the series Darker than Black yet even though it was just licensed in NA ( which I responded to the licensing "OH s**t" D: )?

Hell Girl is an awesome series. The dub isn't bad. I haven't finished Futakamori, sadly.
There's a J-drama for Hell Girl, isn't there? Is it any good? I might consider watching it if it is.

Yes, the Death Note fandom hasn't turned very nice. DN is a good manga though. The anime, too.

never heard of it, what's it about?

It's basically about this site that only runs in midnight. You enter the name of your tormentor, and the Hell Girl, Enma Ai, appears before you. She'll give you a black straw doll with a red string tied around it. Untie the string, and she'll drag your enemy to hell. But when you die, you must compensate by having your soul trapped in hell.

I really hope you got that. I fail at explaining.

It's a really good series though. ='D
