...stupid topic! stare

I don't think there is a most important section of the band. if you took any of them out, the music wouldn't sound good.

Heres what i meen:
without the percussion theres no rhythm
without the low brass the music has no "umph"(ever heard an epic song with no low brass? didn't think so.)
without high brass the music is empty
without wood winds there would be no one to make everyone else look good =P just kidding.
Without Guard there isnt really much to look at unless you understand marching

all the sections of the band are needed equally.
(tho i do hate it when people think drumming is so easy a baby monkey with 1/2 a brain cell could do it, you don't have to be an a** about letting them know its not that simple.)

I have to disagree because if you take out woodwinds you have a drum corp. mrgreen

but a drumcorp is not a full marching band. we had this discussion already, They are completely different. don't be stupid stare

Oh these topics... I have been in the guard business for about 11 years now. Yes there isn't any section that is better. We all have to work together other wise... you're a rather crap band. I didn't have the ego issues as bad in marching band because if you had the slightest bit... oh it would be knocked right out of ya. It paid having so many instructors from drumcorps. Drumcorps the egos were a little out of control. but yet again you's get the crap beaten out of you for it. Guards try just as hard as the band/corps. Yes what we do is different but we add on a good amount of G.E. the band cannot provide. Hell in corps out section was the only one to get a 19.9. But now i am rambling. But the key is... Get over yourself or someone will help you with that.

People who have not experienced percussion
don't understand that we really are the most
important section. Why else do them make drum corp?
Hello! In my marching band anyway, we've got class
and respect. I mean, there's no "omg ok. Can I do this
or not?". You just do it.

what is it that you ppl don't get we are all in marching band weather or not we are in guard. The guard is still a part of the marching band. the score of the guard still affects the overall score.

I have to go with percussion...Not because I am the section leader of the basses and the overall percussion section leader...But because we keep the band alive, we give it some flavor and give the crowd something to look at. The cheerleaders are there for all the horny guys and the perc. section is there for the people who aren't into the bubble heads in tight clothes. We are the band...and we don't parade out in gay clothes like the guard...

(we dont have gay costumes) and guard is the visual effect that sets the mood for the entire show...guard rocks...our guard really sets the tone for the show and we match everything with the music!!!! percussion is cool(i would like to learn someday) and guard is awesome and both sections have a very important role in the band but visually we are better(as long as the freshman guard keep up)!!! but look on the bright side you keep the beat. you're the heart of the band. a band without percussion is like a body without a soul!

Lol at my school, no one likes the percussion.
We don't consider them part of the band even though we went to M.P.A's with them. Maybe it's because they're so much trouble.

...thats just dumb. thats like saying you dont consider the trumpet section part of the band because they think they are awesome.

The trumpets ARE awesome! We rule!

First off....no. Percussion is not the band. they are a very important part of the band.

Also, not all guard is stupid. They're not all "Bubble heads in tight clothes" either.

As a drum major, i know how it is to try to get along without a section of the band. it is possible, but its hard, and the music doesn't sound good.
with any given piece of music thats written for a band, all sections have an important part. weather it be the beat for percussion, the melody with high brass and woodwind, or the bass line with low brass, if you take out any of those parts the music isn't going to sound the same. so yes, percussion is a very important part of the band, but, so is every other section.

i know a lot of percussionists who are very talented and work really hard to get to where they are at musically, but everyone who is skilled at any kind of instrument works just as hard as percussionists to get there. besides, it doesn't matter what section is better, because:

your all in the same band, and a band is only as good as its worst section.

i have to agree, I may march with the middle bass drum in the druline but as next year's drummajor i have to agree! i mean, last year the PIT was more important than the drumline and i would know cause i was the only xylephone player and the entire halftime shpw was my SOLO!!!!!

i do believe that even though all the other parts are important that the percussion is more most important. we keep the beat, we can make up for lack of low brass and stuff, we are truely much funner to look at, and we CAN have a song all by ourselves. were like the only people who can play alone by ourselves and make it sound good. im not saying anyone else is wortheless (guard<.<) but none the less drummers can be solo, and are truely the heart and the soul of the band.
