Naohiko set about his search for a tea house in a city full of them. Fortunately, the young samurai had several requirements. The first and most obvious is that the people leaving the tea house must have a certain attitude. A tea house failed its purpose if the clientele left more agitated than when they came in. Secondly, the aroma of the tea must be appealing. Thirdly, was the matter of the house and the servers. If the tea house was in attractive and serene settings that appealed to him, then Naohiko would probably get the relaxation he wished for.
If that failed , Naohiko would head to the dango stand he found the other day and loiter there.

Gendo bowed his head to the woman and watched her turn carefully, rubbing a thumb over Setsuna's head before he responded with his own turn. He wasn't sure, however, quite how to deal with someone with actual experience.

The Match-ups NORTH vs SOUTH Bayushi Kojiro (+2) vs Mirumoto Katsunan (+1) - North Advantage Daigotsu Josuke (+1) vs Shosuro Nene (+3) - North Advanatage Himura Gendo vs Tara (+2) - 19/20 Akodo Tamafune (+2) vs Kuni Taniko (+3) - South Advantage Ide Seibei (+1) vs Shosuro Kyouya - 20/19 Matsu Ami (+3) vs Kitsuki Senzo (+3) - South Advantage
Bye: Yoritomo Katsue (South)
--------------------
@ Kyouya:
"Forgive me, I have not properly introduced myself. Ide Seibei, at your service," he would say, and moved his first piece.
"Urako-san is... sweet, and all, but she does tend to invest herself completely in her tasks. You should see how passionately she plays the drums," Seibei would explain, the opening moves between the two of you setting the pace. "Not me, though. I half-a** it whenever I can. Hah!"
Despite this... the first one to take a pawn would be him.
Seibei gets 32 vs your 30. Kyouya loses 1 point!
--------------------
@ Gendo:
Tara would say nothing, nor betray any emotion as she played against you. Her moves seemed... automated, almost, as if she is following a specific set of instructions. She doesn't move quickly, as she does stop to analyze from time to time, as if you had "thrown her off", but within a few moves she seems to be back in some sort of groove.
36 vs your 29. Gendo loses 1 point!
--------------------
@ Tadao:
"The opening volleys are fired, and enemies engage upon new battlefields, vengeance in their hearts! Although Minami's forces came in with momentum from having a numbers advantage... the battles currently are evenly split. No side holds dominance over the other and a thousand blades clash!"
--------------------
@ Naohiko:
Since this is a timely search, I have the time to ask for clarification:
Are you looking for the one that bests reflects these attributes? Or simply the first one that you come across that matches your requirements?

Oh fun, an experienced player who's played so many games that they have specific moves they always make depending on what their opponent does. Such games weren't normally fun.

After taking what seemed like a month studying her moves, and openly biting her lip behind her half mask, Kyouya finally started moving her pieces in response Seibei's advance. "Then I should certainly find her to see if my flute would go well with it, shouldn't I? Or maybe strike up a dance with her?"

The Match-ups NORTH vs SOUTH Bayushi Kojiro (+2) vs Mirumoto Katsunan (+1) - Evenly Matched Daigotsu Josuke (+1) vs Shosuro Nene (+3) - Evenly Matched Himura Gendo vs Tara (+2) - 17/20 Akodo Tamafune (+2) vs Kuni Taniko (+3) - Evenly Matched Ide Seibei (+1) vs Shosuro Kyouya - 19/19 Matsu Ami (+3) vs Kitsuki Senzo (+3) - South Check
Bye: Yoritomo Katsue (South)
--------------------
@ Gendo:
Well, Shogi isn't really a game played outside of the samurai caste, and this girl definitely isn't samurai. It strikes you as odd that she'd be so experienced. The fact that she's: 1.) Competing at all, 2.) Competing with samurai, and 3.) Has actually had the gall to beat a samurai, is all kind of a strange anomaly.
Tara gets 50 vs your 33; Gendo loses 2 points!
The girl isn't making any high-risk, high-reward moves, but instead seems to be chipping away at your forces, little by little. Such audacity!
--------------------
@ Kyouya:
"My word; have I truly left such a poor impression about you, miss Shosuro Kyouya-san, that you're already looking over my shoulder to my predecessor? Hah!" Seibei would have a wishwashy, sullen tone to his voice, before he would laugh. "I'm doubtful Urako-san holds many grudges, so I think it could be worth pursuing if you are interested. Now, let's see here....."
Seibei picks up his bishop and moves it in position to take one of two valuable pieces of yours, depending on which one you didn't save... but as soon as he removed his hand, he realized he left it in a position for you to simply easily take instead. "Wait! DAMMIT!" He would facepalm immediately upon realizing his blunder.
A rather unimpressive 25 vs your 33, and he loses a point.
--------------------
@ Tadao:
"The battles continue, and a lot of back and forth action, but so far, there is no clear decisive battles, that- wait, a minute, folks!" Tadao hurries to the eastmost table. "I stand corrected! The soldiers of the south are making some rather bold advances into northern territory! It looks bad for the soldiers of general-"
Suddenly, he was stopped short with a deathglare from the Matsu princess. "Ah... er... well, I've... I believe I actually have seen this strategy before. The southern warriors have been lured into a trap, and the north will yet be victorious. Haha, nothing to worry about over here!" Bowing, Tadao would retreat from that end of the tables.
--------------------
@ Naohiko:
You search the entire teahouse district of the city of Kyuden Doji (yes, they have an entire district!), but find that many such businesses meet all your requirements. Searching for the best will be an endeavor in of itself, especially due to your distant upbringing and lack of familiarity with the region.
The one you eventually settle on, probably long after the Shogi tournament has ended, is one known as Zanzen's Breath. It's not quite as old or experienced as some of the others; the stamp near the door by the Daidoji Trading Council establishes the opening of this particular teahouse in 1174. Yet, you feel inexplicably drawn to it for reasons unknown to you.
Perhaps to your surprise, most teahouses have been fairly busy, despite the cold weather. It occurs to you that it might be because of the cold weather, just as well. This place is no exception, but it's not "packed" like some of the larger, more famous names are. This place appears to have a very limited staff, so you aren't served immediately.

Naohiko took the time to warm himself up as he waited to be attended to. His attention would wander to the decor and the atmosphere. As long as he was not cold and not thinking about being cold, Naohiko was good for the moment. When he was finally granted service, he would order tea, warm pastries, and inquire about the name of the tea house.

Bye: Yoritomo Katsue (South)
--------------------
@ Gendo:
A few moves in, and you seem to see a window of opportunity she has left herself. She's setting up for a maneuver you're able to read, and by taking a piece she'd need for it, you force her to effectively delay several turns because of it.
36 vs Gendo's 45; Tara loses 1 point!
--------------------
@ Kyouya:
Seibei's not winning any competitions with the move he just played.
27 vs Kyouya's 35 - Seibei loses a point!
"Frankly, that bout against the Phoenix woman might have given me a false sense of security. I'm going to have to shape up if I hope to win. Ha!" He seems kind of sheepish about doing somewhat poorly in the last couple moves.
--------------------
@ Tadao:
Tadao looks suddenly exasperated, to those still watching. "My good witnesses, something amazing just occurred. A critical victory was won against one of the northern generals," he would say, while the Matsu princess would scoff in disgust at her apparent checkmate. "And that victory has rallied the south, and they all currently push for victories across the board! All that is..."
He would stop, not far from Hiruma Gendo, and gesturing to him with one hand. "Save this brave soul from the North, who's willing to defy all odds, even in the face of overwhelming odds!"
Kitsuki Senzo would bow his head to his opponent, Matsu Ami. Ami would look on the verge of flipping the table, but managed to compose herself and return the bow equally. She would then turn and quietly, yet quickly, leave.
--------------------
@ Naohiko:
"Oh, you want to know about that?" the young, effeminate man would ask in response to Naohiko's inquiry after accompanying the servant to bring his tea and snacks. "My wife is descended from this swordsman that was active around a century ago. He and this other man, a Yoritomo, had a rivalry of some sort. The tea house across the way is run by his descendants. I can try and fetch my wife if you wish to know more details?"

Naohiko nodded. "I would like that very much. Please do arrange it." This may be something Kaichiyo would like. Rival samurai families , dueling each other through the ages through the medium of tea. While the man was away, Naohiko would take the time to savor the tea and goodies.

"It's not a hurried game. Take your time and plan your moves," she advised, knowing that the man would do just the opposite. You couldn't expect a man who relies on impulse to just randomly start doing things patiently.
It didn't stop her at all, from capitalizing on his board control.

@ Gendo:
You begin to grasp a better understanding of the game after your short experience with it, You're confident of a way to deliver a solid blow to this girl's forces. You make your move.
45 vs Gendo's 33; Gendo loses 3 points!
Though the overconfidence cost you; as you made an aggressive move, she capitalized and took several pieces, including one of your generals. It seems she was counting on you doing just that, as she ever calmly and silently counterattacked.
--------------------
@ Kyouya:
"Ah, but perhaps you underestimate me. I could very well be setting up for a high-risk gambit. Sometimes, one must sacrifice to win a war." He tapped the side of his nose knowingly, and made his move.
Seibei raises once, and gets a modified 29 vs your 36; Seibei loses 2 points!
Seeing his move fail to bear fruit, he would rub the side of his neck with his left hand. "Okay, that was a bold-faced lie, I admit it. Ha! Back to the drawing board!"
--------------------
@ Tadao:
"Things are looking dicey for the North! In all but one front, the Southern armies continue to press their advantage and take more ground, at the cost of Northern lives! At this rate, one daimyo definitely stands to win it all!"
--------------------
@ Naohiko:
He would turn to face one of the servant staff, and nod to him. "Go fetch Sakura," the man would say, and the servant bowed deeply and retreated to do as he was bid.
"It will be a little while... samurai-san," he would say with hesitation, apparently not recognizing your mon. "She is currently at home, tending to household duties, until she takes over for the evening shift." He would bow apologetically before returning to managing the tea shop.
About twenty minutes would pass before the servant would return, with a slender woman, almost emaciated. Her hair was dyed white, unlike her husband's, and turned her gaunt gaze towards you after being directed to which of the few patrons inquired for her.
"My name is Kakita Sakura," she would say quietly, with a respectful bow. "You wished to speak to me?"
