Patrick chuckled a little and smiled softly, "To be more honest yes because I feel like it. With you here would be a plus if it is okay to be selfish" he responded. Thought the guest not narrowing it down for him was troublesome in having so much free rein that he might fail. "I will try my best to meet your expectations then" he responded. "Seems to trust me with the cooking, but I should go with some safe dishes just in case for this dinner. Wouldn't need to show all of my cooking cards in one night" he thought to himself coming to a decision to based the dishes on what he already has in the kitchen. Heard what Saeki said next, "Great, around three-ish in the afternoon will be fine" he answered. While he was talking the piano being played badly in the background could be heard. "Just knock on the door when you get here" he said quickly then hung up the phone. "Hiro, the piano is not for playing around on" he exclaimed as he headed for the piano room.

Patrick gently grabs Hiro off the piano keys then closes the lid over them. "You playful little kitten" he said frowning a little and received a meow from the kitten. Sounds of the badly played piano was still ringing in his ears and that annoyed him a bit. "No time wasting scolding him. I don't think he will understand he did anything wrong" he thought with a sigh. Exited out of the room and closed the door behind him then let Hiro down. Headed to the kitchen as he thought about what the menu for dinner could be. "Maybe U.S. themed" he muttered after looking through the food supply. Decided on mac & cheese, hamburger patties baked in the oven and apple pie. He started on the apple pie because he was doing that from scratch and the beef package was defrosting in the kitchen sink. As for the mac & cheese he was going to use the store box version so it won't take long to make once he gets a pot of water boiling. Made sure to feed Hiro lunch when he had the time in the afternoon, but as for himself he had the leftover apple slices. Almost time for the pie to be ready when he heard knocking on the door. He is hoping it is his honor guest, Saeki. "I welcome you to our home with open arms" he greeted and did the gesture after opening up the front door. He didn't attempt a hug or ask for one thinking he should continue to hold back on friendly, physical affection. "You're my first visitor to our new place. Inviting someone over is a very special occasions for me. No worries I haven't set up any weird expectations, my dear friend" he said smiling and stepped out of the way of the door way to allow his guest entrance into his home.

Saeki had eagerly awaited the time to go visit Patrick. Filling his time anyway he could. It would be the first time he would visit his friend back at his home. He had memorized the address and he did see the district before. It looked like the most forgotten neighborhood, perhaps, but that didn't say anything. Near his home town there had been a whole village like Ombre and the people were the most interesting and easy to get along with as one could meet. That certainly applied to Patrick already. The young man had a smaller backpack over his shoulders than he took to the beach, mainly because it only had the most important ingredients one needed for Riceballs. It had a bag of sushi sticky rice, some seaweed (since it would only be for the two of them) and several toppings one could use to add to the rice to add some flavor.
Shiitake Mushrooms, some Ginger, even a pot of coconut flakes in case they felt like trying a more tropical approach. Often locals at his area would add Sake but since Saeki wouldn't be sold alcohol yet, he couldn't arrange for that. In his mind they set the age for that a little to steep, he was legally a grown up already after all, but the law was the law. The young swordsman was raised to strictly to even consider sneaking his way around that. He did get confused for older quite a few times. One even had pecked him as 23. While he went over the contents of his bag once more to make sure he had everything in his mind, and didn't need to improvise last minute, Saeki suddenly realized he was at Patrick's number already and he walked up to the door before knocking on it.
Even outside he could already smell something really good, though he couldn't really put a name to it. When Patrick opened the door and welcomed him Saeki smiled happily. "It's good to see you again Patrick. Thank you for inviting me." he said in reply. Though he wouldn't just up and hug a friend either. Of course where he came from it was kind of unusual in the first place to touch before actually being 'involved' with that someone which was why it had been a bit foreign to the hug. Though he had to admit it had felt good last time. A soft chuckle escaped him when the other said he had not set up expectations and he walked inside when Patrick held the door open and turned around to face him as his friend closed the door. "I'm honored to be the first. I look forward to a good time together again." Saeki said.
"You've earned it after following through on your promises and you have let me into your home" Patrick responded to being thanked and show his most warmest smile he could muster based on his current mood. He will accept any terms of friendship after his three encounter conditions. Friendship was the only thing realistic to him out of his experience in this city. Just accepting the bare minimum and not have to worry about being used or one sided is good enough for him. "Already started to come to terms that the only person okay to hug me is Kenzie, which is to be expected when I consider him to be like a brother to me, and once a upon time my ex. Probably a good thing anyways since I give off a earthy smell sometimes especially when I'm hot or sweating because of what I am and I wouldn't want him to be annoyed by it" he thought then clearing out his mind to focus on the present. "Hope so. Decided to go with a American based dinner so what you're now would be apple pie in the oven" he said as closed the door after his guest walked inside. Hiro walked up Saeki from down the hall and nuzzled against his legs while purring. "And of course, Hiro is happy to see you've arrive also" he announced. Noticed the backpack.wondered if it holds what is needed for the niceball lessons. "Anyways the kitchen is the room over here. Also you can keep your shoes on if you want to. I don't mind either way" he said as he headed to the kitchen.

"Where I come from, that is the norm." Saeki said and smiled a bit. He hoped he didn't insult Patrick or make him feel bad in any way by not hugging again so soon. It wasn't like he was completely against it, but his culture and upbringing were firmly in his mind. Heck where he came from touching someone else was a complete 'not-done'. It was only the later generation of around Saeki's age that started to adept to a more Western approach of shaking hands. The young man chuckled when Patrick spoke. "Having a good time together does not stand or fall with food. So far we always have a lot of fun. I really enjoy our time spent and it even shows me new things, new experiences. Like with the hug. Until that day, I only ever hugged with my direct family members. It was a new experience and I admit not a bad one." the young man spoke.
He wasn't sure if Patrick really worried the food could make this a less good time together, because Saeki was certain it would be a great time, but he didn't want his friend to feel bad. The young man was interrupted in his train of thought when something fuzzy nuzzled his legs and he laughed softly. "Hello to you too, Hiro. It's good to see you again as well." he said giving the feline a gently pet before taking of his shoes to follow his friend. Old habits die hard. "Apple Pie huh? I heard of it, but never tasted it. It smells amazing." Saeki admitted as he followed the other.
"The norm? Does that have a connection to what establishes common sense?" Patrick he asked Saeki. "Food is more like a convenient ice breaker for each of our encounters. Pleased to hear that you have been having fun hanging out together. I tend to do what I think would please others so their needs and wants elevates above mine even Hiro's needs. No ill intentions involved, but continuing a friendship is the ulterior motive" he explained to him. He couldn't think of a time when there was a time when they weren't eating or drinking something which he doesn't mind because there is something new mixed in sometimes. He frowns a little, "So he wasn't a good hug. No worries, I'm not looking to compete with your family. We're just strictly friends anyways. I won't whimsically invade people's personal space" he said. He bit his bottom lip a little, "If you don't mind I rather not revisit this topic about hugs again or anything relating to hugs" he requested. He felt that would say something stupid if that particular part of the conversation continued and didn't want to ruin the mood. Hiro purred some more when he was petted then walked off to play with his toys in the living room. Smiles a little, "Good to hear. I made it from scratch since store bought ones suck. I've made pies in the past, but as a desserts they're as fating as a cake which shouldn't be eaten alone at least for the whole ones" he said. "You can set up on one of the counters. I know my kitchen is small compared to your kitchen, but it is functional" he said as he checked up on the pie then lowered the temperature. "Other two dishes are mac and cheese and hamburger patties baked in the oven" he said confidently. "What is the first thing we do to make rice balls?" he asked Saeki. He would like to start working on the rice balls before it's time to cook the other two dishes.

"You should feel free to be yourself with friends. As for hugs, more like it isn't really what we do where I come from. Not unless...well it doesn't matter." Saeki said, feeling rather uneasy for the first time around Patrick. He had wanted to explain to them that it didn't mean it had been a bad hug, merely that he wasn't used to hugging friends which seemed to be common around this area. Not unless Patrick meant to take the next level of an actual partnership. And it didn't look like that would happen anytime soon. Saeki wasn't really certain why he worried about that, but he managed to drop it for now. Clearly his friend wanted it that way. The young man sighed inaudibly and followed Patrick further in. It would seem his friend was determined to take things the wrong way. It was probably the best to shut up about it now.
Saeki glanced at Hiro in the living room before looking back at Patrick who was smiling. Though now the young swordsman wasn't sure if it was a genuine smile or not. It was clear what the other said though, so Saeki made a mental note to never mention anything remotely about it again. At least they were still friends. He was slightly surprised when he heard Patrick say he baked the pie from scratch though. "Really? That sounds great. I look forward to trying it." he replied and smiled a bit, choosing to ignore the unsettling minutes of before for now. Their friendship seemed to be rather solid already after all. "The kitchen is fine, don't worry my friend. Besides it's about having fun together more so." That was what friendship was about after all. "It all sounds good." the young man said.
A bit less healthy than he was used to perhaps, but there was nothing wrong with indulging now and then. Saeki opened his bag and placed the items he brought on the counter and smiled looking at Patrick. "I hope you like plums. I brought them as one of the fillings since I always loved it in rice balls and wished to share it's taste with you." he said more cheerful. "First of all, you cook the rice. Rice Balls are very easy to make and in little time. When the rice is cooked you put some salt on your hands and fingers and then you mold the rice into your desired shape. there are actual balls, so round, but usually they are triangular." the young man explained. He washed his hands before working on the rice and showed Patrick along the way, answering questions if they came by.
He also made sure to show them every step carefully. When they were done it wasn't much later. "You can eat the rice balls warm, but you can also let them cool first. Which would you prefer?" Saeki asked Patrick while he skillfully cut up the Shiso leaves in small tiny bits to use as a sprinkling. Saeki was happy to share this recipe with his friend. And if they liked it, even better. He had brought sweet plums and strawberry jam for filling. He brought more but since he wasn't sure how long Patrick wished to work on the onigiri, the swordsman might leave it like this unless the other wanted to make and try more.
Patrick hopes his friend will like the pie after hearing his response about it. He was rusty when it came to desserts. but he didn't have any problems with them as long as he follows a recipe he memorized. "Hmm, a working kitchen is just as good though" he pointed out calmly. With their size difference he didn't worry about if there was going to be enough room for them both to be in the kitchen. "What is your definition of friendship? Like what are you expecting?" he asked Saeki. He wasn't sure if he asked that before, but if he did then it will be like was checking if the answer has changed this time around. "Good then. I didn't know what to go for, but I thought should go for something simple and since you're new to the country I could introduce to some mainstream American dishes" he said to him of the reasons he picked these dishes. "Um, I don't know. Never had plums, but I do look forward to trying them out" he admitted. He recalled the other mentioned the rice balls can be filled with all sorts of delicious extras. "What do plums typically taste like?" he asked to find out what to expect when he tastes one. He thought the rice balls sounded easy enough for him to make for his first time. He washed his hands again after his friend once he had checked on the defrosting beef. He followed along well enough and he was confident about that. "Um, both have the same kind of likeness to me" he answered thinking basing on the last time he had ate them. "How big or small can they get? Also where and how big should be?" he asked him.

"I agree, no need for big houses. I just ended up where I am now because my father was determined to give me a great house." Saeki said and smiled to the other. It was true he lived in the most lustrous district of Soleil, but the young man would be just as happy in a smaller home. That said the house was bought and paid for, so it was his already. He was slightly surprised by the deeper question though. What friendship was about to him. "Hmm. A friend is someone you can be yourself with without them judging you. Someone you can have fun with and enjoy hanging out with but are just as comfortable with just sitting around. Someone loyal and honest to you, is a friend. Well in my opinion." he answered it to the best of his abilities.
"What about you?" he asked in turn as he got ready to set up for teaching his friend how to make rice balls. "It sounds great. I'm curious." he replied about the new dishes and chuckled. After that he started out about the rice balls. He wasn't all to surprised to hear the other's question. Saeki hadn't seen many eat plums or anything with plums on this side of the ocean. "They taste sweet. Kind of like sweet apples but smaller." he explained hoping it was good. He could hardly say they were like prunes, considering Patrick might not know those either. But apples everyone knew. His friend was a quick learner it would seem. Saeki wouldn't be surprised if they were perfectly capable of making their own rice balls already after today. "Both taste good too. As for size, you decide really. There is no set guideline for size of rice balls. It is more a personal preference." he replied and smiled. Once the rice balls had cooled down a bit, Saeki picked one up and offered it to Patrick. "Feel free to try these with plums." the young man invited, curious to see what they thought of the combo.
"With such a big house do you clean inside and outside yourself along with the yard maintenance?" Patrick asked. As far as he knows Saeki lives alone and he hadn't heard any mention of a housekeeper or something like that hired by him yet. Listens intently to Saeki describe his definition of friendship. "I agree with your opinion. Also its a two way street basically a give and take with efforts to spend time together to avoid drifting apart. There are exceptions with childhood friends, old friends, family friends, and frenemies. To resolve conflicts and disagreement which I lack in experience when it comes to friendships" he replied softly. "I hope you aren't too lenient with me for the latter part because I am aware that I do tend to let go on for too long if I dwell on it or let it linger longer than I should. Working on it, but I think I still need help on that" he opened up about a flaw that has to him. He could seek professional help, but he didn't think there was anyone better than the one from his boarding school days. "Okay I will keep that in mind when I try them" he replied to the explanation. "Really, now? That sounds very flexible" he commented. "Will do" he said accepting the offered rice ball. "Do these plums come in different colors like apples do?" he asked him before taking a bite of the rice ball with a plum. Lips puckered a bit, "Mmm, very tart" he said laced his mixed accent then eats the rest of the rice ball.

"I need to find someone for the yard maintenance, but I keep the house clean inside and out myself." Saeki replied and smiled. He was fine with gardens, but the house being so big, he didn't have the time to take care of both. So he had decided to hire a gardener of sorts. It was just to much for him alone. What was his father thinking anyway? Putting him in a large house with so many rooms and so much space outside as well. Unless... No, he did not want to think that way. It wasn't going to happen no matter how much his father hoped for it despite him being alright with his son being gay.
The young man was dragged from those doom thoughts when Patrick spoke again. It seemed they expected pretty much the same about friends. "That sounds about right." he said and chuckled. He was surprised a bit when Patrick started about his less god habits though. If one could call them that, especially while he was working on it. That was admirable. "I'm sure you are fine." he said and smiled. He truly enjoyed this cooking together and teaching his homemade food recipe as well. He would only teach his friend the ones he wanted to learn though.
"It is very flexible. All to your own tastes really. The only universal ingredient is sticky rice." he said cheerfully. Of course he had expected Patrick would have questions but they weren't what he thought. Where he thought they might be about the rice balls it was about the plums. A small smile played of the young swordsman's lips. It was refreshing that someone was interested in the ingredient for a change. But then, his friend did grow his own crops. "There are between 19 and 40 different species. All different colors, usages and even their edibility differs. You have to be careful with picking yourself for example. There is a family of Nightshade that has blossom and fruit very similar to plums." Saeki explained.
Saeki's smile widened when Patrick showed he really enjoyed the rice balls they made. It was good to see they were open to new foods. The young man picked up a rice ball as well while they waited for the food that Patrick was making was done. "How about what you are making? Is there any special way of doing it?" he asked curiously. He never did get a chance to check himself yet.

"They usually work once or twice a month depending on the yard growth" Patrick said on the matter. "Although if your search bore no fruit or none meet your standard then I'm willing to volunteer, Saeki" he offered to him. He appreciated the other's response about his flaw and it was definitely better than what he imagined. "Have you ever thought about getting a piercing? I mean on one of your ears?" he asked out of the blue when he happened to be looking at the other's ears. His friend's cheerfulness was rubbing off of him a little. "What's sticky rice so sticky?" he asked him. "Wow! That's a lot" he exclaimed. "Reminds him of a particular plant, but it slips my mind what it is" he thought to himself. "That reminds me of a fruit that looks like a miniature apple and gets mistaken as one especially when people put them in their garden. Although it is known to be quite poisonous and can lead to death. There are even some plants put in there that are dangerous to touch directly. Their names escape my mind, but their images do appear just fine" he shared some knowledge with him. He doesn't intend to grow his own plums thinking he could be scammed into getting the wrong seeds and plus he doesn't grow fruits. With the exception of tomatoes, pumpkins, and peppers because there are still people who view them as veggies. "Not really. The mac and cheese is pretty much readymade, but the pie I did by scratch and so will be the hamburger patties" he answered. He washed off his hands after eating another rice ball then placed a pot of water on a stove eye he turned on. "Do you want to help in making the patties?" he asked him.

"I haven't found any so far yet no." the young man mused for a moment. There was an elf that could work gardens but they already had quite the schedule. "But aren't you already very busy though?" he asked when he realized the other meant working his garden. "Your vegetables, work, taking care of Hiro.I'd appreciate the help, as long as it won't be to stressful for you to juggle all that." he said slightly worried the other might take up to much and hurt themselves or something. Saeki wouldn't want to be an added stress-factor for Patrick. Though he was surprised when they suddenly started about piercings. What an odd question, in the context anyway as they were talking gardens. Saeki chuckled a bit at the abrupt change of subject.
The young man shook his head. "I haven't considered it so far. Wouldn't know what to do for earrings. I have been thinking about getting a tattoo though." he replied to Patrick. Of course he had seen that his friend already had a ring in his ear. "What about you? Ever considered a tattoo?" he returned the question the other way around. "The starch is what makes the rice so sticky." Saeki explained with a smile. "Starch contains a lot of Amylopectin. It dissolves in warm water and makes the rice sticky, Ideal for rice balls." he finished and when they spoke of fruit and then the meal he listened intently. "Oh of course, just let me know how to make them and how I can help." Saeki replied cheerfully and washed his hands so he could help Patrick with the pastries. He was eager to see how the American food was made.
Patrick shook his head a little, "Not busy enough" he exclaimed. "Stressful? Only thing stressful is dealing with unwanted thoughts. Work is slow and I haven't got another job yet. Hiro is going through that teenage phase and the garden is twice a day, but most don't need that attention. I still have time for nightly video chats with my business partner, Kenzie" he said not trying to brag of how much he likes to keep busy. A lot of it was spent not interacting with other people. "One of the worst things to come across is a bored elementalist. I wouldn't be off if I can't follow through when it's accepted” he added. ''Thanks for being considerate and worried about my well being" he thanked him. "Best way to find out is through clip-on earrings like mine. When it comes to tattoos it's recommended to start with something small" he suggested and gestured to the earring on his right ear. "I have one. Wanted it to cover up the scar from the mountain incident" bites his own bottom lip some, but not enough to hurt or harm his lip thinking about how he felt when he first saw the scar in a mirror. Only Kenzie saw the scar before he got the tattoo. He took the ground beef out of the kitchen sink then opened it on the counter. Checks on the oven to make sure it is on and on the right temperature. He went on to getting out a mixing bowl, "First you need to mix in what you want into the meat yourself" he said as he carefully dumps the ground beef into the bowl then adds a bit of salt and pepper and garlic. "Most likely going to have leftovers so I implore you to take some home with you" he tells him. "As for helping, you can mix the meat with your hands while I prep the pan" he instructed him and gestured the motions of how to mix the meat. Went to go get the baking pan and rinse it off in the sink then dry it off with a kitchen towel. With the help from Saeki, the making of patties went by quickly and by then the water in the pot boiled. A few minutes later, the mac was tender enough to add cheese. Overall he had a nice, non romantic American style dinner with his friend and hopefully sent him home with leftovers. Happily cleaned up then chatted with Kenzie for a little while and headed off to bed like Hiro has by now.
