Letting her hand slide across Masuyo's back, gently brushing her hand as she left to let the woman know she was leaving, she followed Kagae towards the shrine. At least it was light and they'd have a chance to see what they were getting into while they were getting into it. She had a lot to think about.

Kagae was able to light the parchments as a VERY temporary light source. The temporariness of it all was especially made evident when the wind took one right off the blade almost immediately.
Making into the shrine, Kagae and Miyako would find that it wasn't so much a "shelter" as a "windbreak". The roof had several holes in it, and the wooden beams were showing signs of rot.
Kagae's good enough at this sort of thing to know that it was probably still safe, but comfortableness was going to be a different matter altogether.
There was no sign of any recent habitation at all. People must have come through here once in a while every couple years, possibly for centuries, but no one was here now.

The little Dragon felt another chill run through her... though much different this time. Touching was one thing, but the courtier's gentle graze sent thoughts running through her mind that made her very confused. If blush could light the way, Masuyo would have been the perfect torch. Since it couldn't, she was thankful for the darkness.
What little light they did have apparently miraculously guided them to the shrine, and the healer wasn't far behind. To say she was pleased by what they found, well... that would just be a flat out lie.
"Don't s'pose a tent'll help us here..." she commented, her anxiety causing the accent to return. Resigned to the fate of a miserable night, but thankful that it was still a better shelter than any alternative, she made to pull out her blanket and settle in. On the off chance that it might help, she was intent to commune with the spirits before really attempting to sleep, but for now her eyes were fixed on the tiny scorpion.
"I- ah... that is... these're always warmer when shared, so... if you want..." she stumbled around the invitation as she wrapped the thick cloth around herself. Meanwhile the little vulpine didn't hesitate to accept, diving deep into the comforting warmth; even if it hadn't necessarily been addressed to him.

Miyako blinked and stared at the Dragon for a moment when she spoke. She hadn't even realized she'd followed after.She debated it for a moment, then agreed. She disliked storms anyways, and it would at least not be improper for two females to share warmth. "Thank you..." taking a step forward, only to notice the fox diving into the warmth and she reached for her own bag and pulled out another sweet and offering it to the young beast, and then one for his mistress as well. "Well, at least we'll be cozy..."

Once Kagae was at the temple he'd attempt to find somewhere suitable to start a fire and things to fuel a fire. If he is allowed those he would begin preparing then cooking his pheasant.

Kagae looks around the temple and very quickly fines the irori hearth that would warm the building. To say that it, like many other things here, has fallen into disrepair has been an understatement. Others before have utilized it and failed to clean it out, and it has been filled with solidified charred remains of kindling and other burnables, as well as garbage, and you think a few tiny bones. I'm not saying that it's unusable, but only unusable in this state. It will take time to clean it out, but I will then pose the question, how will you light it without a fuel source? You don't have nearly enough parchments to sustain a workable fire, especially since you've already burned half of your amount. Another one crumples off and falls to the floor as ash and cinder, leaving three remaining. Also... Masuyo and Miyako. It's summertime, and though it's a bit chilly, it's not like either of you will risk frostbite if you don't keep close. Getting close for warmth, comfort, and reassurance isn't outright dishonorable, but doing it in front of others is. Each of you risk losing a point of honor each unless you disengage.
Kojiro, your honor is low enough where you actually gain a point of honor for ignoring their dishonorable behavior. If they take the honor loss, you gain a point unless you choose not to ignore it.*KRAKAKOOOOMM!*

Once the had arrived with the magistrate's body, Denbe would thank Kojiro- he didn't know if anyone shared his sentiments on this, but all the same, he felt slightly better knowing he would at least be able to look Doji Kita in the eye when they returned this way. Folding the tend around Shusui for some level of protection from what of the storm their shelter wouldn't keep out, the Hare took his blanket and went to set it down as far from the others as he could find a dry spot and still have a line of sight. He didn't want anything hiding anyone from the rest, in case trouble did happen.
"Would you mind taking the first watch, long as you'll be about that?" The Hare asked Kagae, looking at him thinking very hard about setting up a fire for the pheasant. Inside a building as they were, he hoped they'd be able to hide the light and smoke from who or what ever inhabited the area still.

Taking his katana torch Kagae would search for wood.
"I'm just going to look in adjacent buildings for something to turn into firewood be right back."

"But I'd better not..." She sighed softly, remembering her Crane grandmother and as tempting as it was to ignore it, she needed to keep propriety. "Do you have everything you need Kitsuki-san?" As if there was nothing going on and they weren't considering being improper. Though it did give the young Scorpion something to think about as she grabbed her own blanket.

Assuming Denbe and Kojiro found some place decent to respectfully stash Shusui-sama's body, Kojiro would head to the temple and sit down. "I guess this is when we discuss watches. I wish the second or last watch. "
With that, the Scorpion would relax against a wall and try to meditate on the facts as he knew them.
Someone saw fit to kill a Jade Magistrate, a samurai much higher in the service to the emperor than Kojiro, and use his body as a mere scarecrow (scarebushi?). Someone still had Asako-sama's shoto and the scabbard in his possession. Why would someone discard the katana on a mere scarebushi and keep the wakazaishi?
Kojiro supposed if someone wished to disguise themselves as a Phoenix, the blade would be invaluable in confirming the false identification. The wakazashi was more a badge of office amongst the samurai class.The altercation yesterday at the temple probably had been the first time in several generations that a Bayushi of his line had had to use the smaller blade as a weapon. And then again, why keep the katana's scabbard? If the culprit was using a sword stronger than a man worthy of Doji Kita, he risked chance of discovery using a mismatched Daisho.
Kojiro's head hurt. "Denbe-san. Did you find Asako-sama's badge of office?" This would be fun. Someone or something dressed up as a Jade Magistrate. Not an easy lot you've chosen for your life, Kojiro.

Kagae, give me a Perception/Investigation (Search). TN 20 to find something burnable. You can raise for quickness, as well as anything else you might want to search for.

I guess kagae gets to waste the pheasant and starve also because finding wood is hard.
Kagae would return empty handed and frustrated to see the rest still squatting in darkness.
"I understand you're all tired but I would really like to get a fire going so would one of you come and help me before I start burning your travel packs."

Both Dragon and Fox eyes sparkled at the sign of treats. There was much happy munching, and only mild disappointment when Miyako ultimately re-thought the idea and declined. Alright, so maybe it wasn't quite as cold as it seemed... but still...
She nodded at the considerate thought, "I do, thank you. I think I shall commune with the Kami for a while. With luck they might be able to provide some insight to the situation here."
With that she remained still, taking her meditative trance and mumbling the ritual in mystic whispers. It was easy to guess what disposition the spirits here might have, so she chose to commune with one directly. More pointedly a spirit of air. Normally their inconsequential details and incessant need to talk about everything was a tedious task when searching for specific information, but she wasn't looking for specifics this time. It really was the perfect choice.

The Hare shook his head.
"I haven't seen it on him, and I'm not sure I have the stomach to disturb him any further digging through his effects to see if he has it on him. If they only left him with his clothing and a sword when they put him up though... I'm assuming everything else has been taken. We'll search their things for it. I am most concerned with having his complete daisho to return, though."
The Hare bundled up slightly, looking a little far off in the eyes as he stared off. He felt dirty, having touched and moved the body himself. It was unclean. He wanted to find a river and scrub his flesh hard, and a real temple to make some righting at. But for the moment, he was concerned with the lack of things to use to burn the magistrate. At this rate, he supposed they might have to get a real stretcher to use to carry him to civilization, where eta might be able to check his effects and take care of the rest.
He just didn't feel right being too near the others just now, though he supposed that would pass soon.
Just to focus on the task at hand.
Sighing, he'd reach into his bags. "I don't have anything to burn, but I'll give you a day's rations from my pack. I'm still uneasy about the light making our presence and location obvious to anyone who might be keeping watch at that castle..." even at night, the smoke might show through, and if the light wasn't very well hidden it'd stand out in the pitch dark.
