Aelgeirr would sigh. "Let's knock together, if I think that's the type of knocking you're thinking of. We don't have time for this."

Aelgeirr would help Thork bash the door in if that was his plan....or bash the door in if it wasn't.

Mercy couldn't bring herself to stop the two from breaking down the door. She may have been adept at moving stealthily, but she was far less equipped for breaking & entry. Sehanine approved of secrecy in love, not thievery.

"Anyone else find this incredibly out of place...?" she murmured warily, once again eyeing it up for traps even if the other two decided to beat it down while she was looking.

Mercy finds no traps.

Aelgeirr runs up and jumpkicks the door, to no avail. (Not with a 10, at least). Still exhausted from earlier it seems, it may be up to Thork to force entry here.

Aelgeirr would mutter to himself as he waited for the Orc to try. "I'm starting to think that maybe gnomes lived here FIRST and the gobbos drove them out."

After seeing her companions fail to put a dent in the door Ambra walks up and tries to turn the door handle to test if it is locked.

I am a cruel DM, but not that cruel. The door is locked as well.

@ Aelgeirr, Thork: This isn't a solid steel door like the pit prison; it does look like it could be broken down with some effort. Whether you make that effort, or simply look for the key, is up to you.

After the little Ambra would move to a safe distance, Thork would move forward to give his attempt. "Thork find whole place, 'out of place'. Odd dead adventurers, food left out for flies, No Ale, (Are there places to hold torches, lanterns, or any source of lighting along the walls or ceiling?)..." He stopped speaking to place his foot beside the lock, with an abrupt force.

Yes, there are in fact sconces in the main hall. None in here though - figuring it was a place for sleeping, that would make sense. The sconces are tin and either poorly crafted or poorly maintained, since they seemed to be dented and dirtied.

Luckily, you guys still have that sunrod lit, so visibility wasn't really an issue, at least in close proximity to it.

--------------------

With a mighty CRACK!, Thork Half-Orcs his way through the door, which still hung from its hinges but no longer looked closable, since the lock was busted.

With a light shone in the chamber, which was about 10' by 10', it seemed to be someone's private quarters. There was a much nicer sleeping surface (some sort of cot/mattress amalgamate, though it was definitely goblin-esque sized. There was a writing desk here with a book on it, as well as an inkpen and ink; and a fairly tall, decently-crafted wardrobe closet in the corner of the room.

You see nothing more than these three things.

Aelgeirr would sigh and then try the door opposite the double door and see if it would open.

Everyone! Aelgeirr seems to lose patience and go open the last remaining hallway door before any of you can stop him!!!

... nothing bad happens, I'm just trying to scare you. The door is not locked nor trapped. Beyond it is a 30'-long hall, 10' wide, not unlike the other hallway... at least in terms of construction and stonework. There are a few more dimly lit sconces here, but more important than that, there are 6 large leathery tapestries, with large symbols (maybe characters?) in red paint on them. If they are words, you don't read goblin so you can't make out what they say. The same symbols/characters are repeated on each tapestry.

At the end of this hallway, which extends east, is a set of double doors.

There is no one in this hallway.

"Don't suppose you happen to know a Comprehend Language spell?" was all Mercy could think to ask as she examined the room, opening the book just in case it might not be Goblin but otherwise searching for any secrets. She didn't seem to notice the elf's absence at all.

Ambra would respond. "A-actually, I do. Here, give me a moment and I will figure out what it says."

Ambra moves over to Mercy and begins to cast the ritual, curious to see what the goblins might have written.

Ambra, you look at the book and, as you suspected, it is written in goblin, spending the alchemical reagents as needed. Upon examining the book, you find it is... of all things... a diary.

Skimming the pages, it seems that the author is a high priest, and one of Maglubiyet. Most of the entries in the first chunk of the filled pages seem to be written out of boredom, detailing day-to-day trivialities. S/he starts to mention 'the human artifact', and frustration at being unable to seize it.

The author doesn't appear to use any sort of conventional dating system with his/her entries, but a few pages before the last one, you spot the word 'Adventurers'. Apparently, four adventurers had attacked 'the temple' and were slain. The entry mentions finding magical items, and how the author began to study them...

Mercy, at this point, upon checking the wardrobe, you find some equipment! Specifically, you find a flail, some cloth armor, a cloak, and a holy symbol that you recognize with your religious training as belonging to Maglubiyet. The weapon, armor, and cloak all seem to be sized to fit beings larger than goblins.

Ambra, you read on. Apparently, none of the magic items the author studied matched the power of 'the human artifact', but s/he still found use for one of them to finally seize it.

The very last entry has the following text:
'The day has arrived. By Maglubiyet's blessing, I have attained the artifact, and in time to complete the ritual while the correct stars are aligned. The pilgrims will be arriving within the hour, and I now go to prepare myself. When the ritual is completed, the Avatar of Maglubiyet will rampage across the land, laying waste to all the human cities. There is no army nor adventurer powerful enough to stop the Avatar of Maglubiyet in a thousand leagues. Many will perish, much will burn. Glory to Maglubiyet!'

"What is a Magna bite?" Thork would ask after Ambra read from the goblin text. "And Why does it no like cities?
