this sounds like the same kinda TG talk that always gets me confused, too. o.o I'm having difficulty relating now...

when it's based on behavior, I find that people usually have gender-role assigned genders, as opposed to actual biology. and the worste part is, they think that it IS biological disposition. confused that's what bothers me about that. but judging based on looks is alright with me because I know they simply aren't use dto or don't understand someone not being one of two assigned genders.

Gender is part ingrained psychology developed over generations and passed on through nurture- sex is determined by hormones and genetics. I don't have any choice at all that I was born with bits that don't match who I am- I do have a choice on how I present my gender identity because I can embrace, blend or reject what my sex say about my role.

I'm more than what is in my pants- when people make assumptions based on what they think is below my waste they're objectifying me. When people observe my choices and gender expression- even if it doesn't match my identity, they're relating to me as a person who acts in the world instead of a piece of meat.

hmm... maybe... it's still hard for me to wrap my head around all that. I have more of an appreciation for physical bodies than most who rebel against gender roles... but see, I have Klynefelter's Syndrome, so it doesn't realy feel to me like I even AM just bodily male. I may look male to people, but if they took a close enough look they'd find out that even biologically that's not perfectly accurate.

I know you probably didn't mean to, but associating being non-binary with "rebelling against gender roles" can come across as kind of degrading- I don't know of anyone in my GSA who is non-binary that can be characterized as "rebelling", we're just not the gender assigned to our sex.

But Klynefelter's Syndrome is still biologically male, it's just in the intersexed spectrum, cat_neutral while what you're describing is dysphoria.

I don't mean to be insensitive, I don't know all of these terms... confused I'm not educated on this, I just know that I don't consider myself male or female. I don't know how to express it very well.

and perhaps that is so, but again that comes from societal standards. I'm considered just a man with genetic mutations. I don't feel that that is an accurate description of my biology. in fact, I'm not even normal for someone with KS; I have ovaries.

KS is in the intersex spectrum- but male and female are reflective of sex, not gender. Gender has 2 parts- how you see yourself and how you express yourself.
If you act masculine, your gender expression is "man", even if you don't feel how you act matches who you are.

Do you know if you have 46, 47 or 48? In all the intersexed lit I've read, that doesn't happen in KS.

According to a 2006 study- did they do a full genetic run?

nope. I probably could have followed up and asked to see the results, but I was a kid and just let my mom tell me what the doc told her. I intend to get tested more completely when I can afford it, but medical coverage is hard to get nowadays, even with the president's efforts to make it easier.

It seems really odd to me- maybe because you were younger it was a misdiagnosis?

yeh? I'd like to know about'em. I have the unfortunate circumstance of living in a red state south of the dixie line, so I don't exactly have a whole lot of educational resources on this topic.

Our GSA references this.
Reading that first will help set the tone for this.

Riri
I don't have a problem with Christianity, or Christians- but I'm developing a lot of resentment towards Christian Privilege because of school.

In English I'm told by my groupmates that I don't deserve the same rights they have because of my gender and orientation.

I'm on the college's Diversity Committee, I ask for a representative for Religious Diversity on the upcoming Diversity Panel and Campus Discussion, everyone is like "Yeah! We should have a Christian Minister come and talk about Diversity and Acceptance!"
I said "Why don't we get someone who isn't Christian to represent religious diversity?" I got shouted down.

In Art Club, our Club President lectures about how God has blessed us, and so we should be sure our club wins the food drive! My response is "Not everyone is that well off." She insisted we all were and we should donate $35 a piece.
"Look lady- I go to the food bank, I can't afford to donate to it."- basically being forced to expose my lack of privilege in front of strangers because she wouldn't take my word for it, using her religion as a soapbox in a club that has nothing to do with Christianity.

It's making me want to drop out of the clubs. cat_scream
How do people deal with the abuse of Christian privilege when it's targeting you?

Someone responded to me with this:
Quote:
I see the problems with Christianity, and Christian privilege, yet I don't really think it is Christian privilege, it is just part of the US culture... Everyone feels they must be catered to, but so many want to place themselves above others. It's a paradox that a religion which holds "others before self" should have to learn such a teaching from the religions that it demonizes.

Instead of requesting that Christian activities get shut down, ask that your beliefs get recognized. Some times, if you show a community you don't want to cramp their style, they will be more willing to accept you (or at least overlook you)... You will probably be turned down, but then you should gather those of like mind and sympathies and form your own group. The fact that you approached your leaders will be sure to turn eyes to you and your cause, and they will watch you grow. As you do, if you demonstrate the love and compassion that they so easily forgot, you will prove that there is just as much to you as there is to them.

Am I really off base- or does all the underlined parts pretty much embody the whole problem?
