...Overall, I think this was a very solid Draft. I would grade the New York Giants in the B to B+ range. There were many things that I liked, and a few things that I didn't like.
The Giants obviously needed a WR. Picking up Hakeem Nicks at #29 was a good move. Good route runner, tough, physical, and great hands. I would have taken one of the two big-name middle linebackers here, but that's just me.
The Giants had a lot of picks and not many holes. Something that got me thinking twice was why the Giants didn't trade up in the second round to grab Maualuga or Laurinaitis. The Giants needed a middle linebacker, and easily traded up a few spots to select either one of these guys. Both of these two are beasts, and are consistent. Think about how they'd turn out after a year or two learning from Pierce. Either one could have been the franchise LB we were looking for.
Getting Sintim at #45 was a good move. He is a pass rushing LB that is smart, durable, and consistent. Hopefully this addition can get rid of Wilkinson.
We needed offensive line depth, so we were lucky to have Beatty drop to us at #60. That's good value, for someone who can start at LT in the future. Maybe now Deihl can move to guard.
I always wanted Ramses Barden as a WR, and sure enough, we got him at #85. Great size and physicality. He has good hands, and [without Burress] he can be the red zone threat that we need.
Travis Beckum was a decent pick, but there were better TEs on the board at #100. Beckum supposedly has speed, but can't block or catch as well as others. I would have taken Nelson, Casey, or Ingram.
Andre Brown at #129 was pretty good, but he is supposedly a one RB dimensional. Gartrell Johnson was still on the board, and I much rather would have picked him. He is versatile, and can block and catch (much like Derrick Ward). Not to mention Johnson is a beast rusher.
I heard that we may have taken Rhett Bomar for value in a possible trade later on, but I'm not buying it. We took him at #151. I would have much rather taken Nate Davis at QB. Davis could have been the #3 and the eventual successor to Manning. Not to mention, he has a great arm and good awareness.
We then finished off by taking two CBs, DeAndre Wright at #200, and Stoney Woodson at #238. I like these picks. Both seem to have a lot of potential. But I think the Giants should have taken a safety with one of these picks, as it's a slightly bigger need.
...So it was a fun ride. Yet another very good Draft for us, and a nice one to watch. Jerry Reese is a Draft guru, and we had good opinions from the top down. And the Giants will definitely be Super Bowl contenders this upcoming season.
