The boy chews on his lip for a tiny bit then realizes what Kero is asking of him. "Do you mean three plus three plus three, Mes'sirra... that would be nine."

*Kero nods*
That's right...multiplication is best explained like this.
*Pulls a group of gold coins out of the Void, separating them into four groups of five*
Okay....we have four groups of coins, right? And there are five in each group. If I wanted to know how many there are total, how could you tell me?

*Kero nods*
Multiplication is just a fast way to add up groups...it takes a lot of memorizing, but when you do, you can do math really, really fast.

*Kero looks at him*
Quite a lot...but not until we get you reading fairly well, okay? And as Ly has told me, the best way to learn to read is to be read to...shall I read you a story before bed, as our talk tonight has taken up both your hour and our talking time?

The boy listens to the howling wind outside and nods eagerly. Anything would sound better than that. He climbs into bed and waits for Kerobian to pick out a story.

*Kero goes over, and pulls a small bookshelf out of the Void, armoring his mind, he takes a stack of them to Passura*
Pick one out of this stack, and I'll read it to you...cover to cover, even if it's a chapter book...and if it has a crown on the inside cover, you can have it as your own...

The boy stares at the stack wide eyed and chews on his lower lip. Then he closes his eyes and picks one at random, Handing it to Kero to read. "Is it a good one, mes'sirrah?" he asks hopefully.

*Kero notes that it is one of his favorite books...Mrs. Basil E. Frankenweiler...and points to the crown on the inside of the cover*
Yep....that it is....
**Can you guess how Kero marks his books...what symbol he uses to make sure he knows they're his?**

** rolleyes was that a trick question?**
Passura grins from ear to ear and settles in for a story, burrowing in under the covers and getting comfortable.
