I think it's generally used in boxing (which would be obvious) and I learned it from old cartoons. Probably Tom and Jerry or Looney Tunes.

Much like many can attribute their knowledge of opera to Bugs Bunny, so does a lot of my vocabulary have similar sources.
Although knowing Wagner is probably more impressive that knowing punch drunk...

I remember it because it means exactly the opposite of what it sounds like and I don't know how to use it in a sentence. I got it wrong on my vocab quiz.
