Deciding to just go for it, Ajicka headed for the alleys, and directed Houndoom and Sableye to do the same. She recalled Torchic, since the fire bird didn't need to be out, and could probably use some more rest. She stretched a bit herself, wondering if maybe she ought to go get some food or something soon, but turned her focus back to the dimly lit area. Luckily, despite being a large city, Castelia wasn't exactly known for it's back ally crime. But it still paid to be careful, and she trusted her pokemon -- all well trained and strong -- to be able to take care of themselves. And obviously, she wasn't exactly worried about herself, either.

In fact, if anything, Ajicka might have been looking for a fight, just a bit. Or rather, if she could take out a few slimey thugs while she was in the city, she'd certainly have no arguments. Especially if they were the kind of jerks who would wait in the shadows for people looking for eggs to come tentatively looking around. Not that there was anything tentative in what she was doing, either. She was tossing trash bags aside, moving trash cans, even looking around inside some, without reaching in. She had every intention of being the one to find the egg, again.

Staying in the alleys had it's benefits; she found an egg, slightly less than clean, in the corner almost tucked under a garbage bag. She wasn't sure if it had been placed there, fallen there, or dragged there by a scrappy rattata, but she picked it up, wiped it off, and headed out of the ally-- only to promptly run into someone who was walking way too fast, hard. The guy barely rolled his shoulder and shot her a glare, btu she was nearly knocked off her feet and hit the wall. She snapped her head up to glare furiously at him, seriously contemplating going after him and shoving him flat on his face. In fact, she got as far as taking a step, when she noticed he'd dropped his communicator. She picked it up, intending, this time, to throw it at the back of his head, when she noticed it was still on, and opened to a chat.

Ajicka was not normally a nosey person, at all. In fact, her interest in other people typically ranged from 0 to -800. But the guy had been moving so fast, and still was -- the whole thing happened quick, but she could still see him -- that she wondered if he might have been up to something suspicious. She started moving after him, reflexively, but looked down at the message on his screen.
To Scarlett:
Hey Mishka, how are the gym battles going?
She frowned. Who, or what, the hell was 'Mishka'? Nickname? She paused, but shook her head and looked up, lengthening her pace to try and at least match his. His legs were longer, he was weirdly tall, but she was able to at least get within earshot. "Hey a*****e! You dropped your communicator! Think your girlfriend's gonna get a little pissed if you don't respond, huh?" she shouted bitterly. She assumed that, at the very least, he was 'friends' with this Mishka, though maybe she was being presumptuous. Immediately, the man spun around, extremely dark blue eyes narrowing on her, before he pivoted and strode over. She knew he understood her, but when he yanked the communicator out of her hand and leaned forward, he hissed something in a harsh-sounding language, before turning and continuing to walk. Otvalee? The ******** did that mean...

Landing in Castelia, Scarlett's first order of business was the gym. Though she would be training Vandal, first she wanted to take care of beating Burgh. After all, she wouldn't need Vandal for this battle. Damien was more than competent enough to handle this battle. Burgh was a bug type leader after all. Letting Vandal out of his pokeball, Scarlett handed the zoroark Damien's. "Befare we train ya up, you have one mare job playin' human. Take Damien and battle Burgh, he'll be right in there. Ya shouldn't have any trouble. Afterwards, meet me at the basketball courts. Think ya can do that this time without gettin' lost?" She asked. Vandal nodded, hoping this wasn't going to be like his battle with Flannery where it was also supposed to be an "easy" win. Not that he could really argue with Scarlett on the matter.
While he delved into the gym, Scarlett made her way down to the courts, finding them relatively empty aside from one game going on in the distance between a few people. Zak was not among them however.... Not that Scarlett was looking for him. She had come to the courts of her own accord. As angry as she still was after his weird treatment of her after they played, she had to admit she had enjoyed their time here. Playing basketball with Zak had much of the same effect on her as working out at a gym or doing some recreational parkour, and now she was interested in continuing to play. First she would need a ball though...

There he found Scarlett shooting some hoops, her long hair now tied back into a ponytail. "Yo. Where's your bag? I'm gonna need to dump this stuff and grab a few potions to heal Damien up." Vandal called, catching Scarlett's attention after she performed a quick layup. "Sure, my bag's ova' there." She gestured to the bench off to the side and Vandal nodded, putting everything away and spraying Damien down. "How'd the battle go?" She asked. "You know, singed bugs, the usual complete domination." Scarlett smirked. "You don't sound that happy about it." Vandal shrugged. "I grin and bear it." He emphasized this with an off smile and Scarlett rolled her eyes. "Lesson number one, ifn ya wanna get stronger, ya can't feel guilty about beating yer opponents. Think fast." Scarlett tossed the basketball to Vandal, who caught it with mild surprise. "You ever play basketball pretty boy?" Scarlett sneered, causing Vandal to give her a flat, unamused look. "Not really. Do we even have time for this lady? I thought ya were gonna train me. Plus we still need to find that egg." Vandal insisted. "I found the egg on the way ta gettin' this basketball, and trainin' ain't just about fightin' pokemon, it's about working yer body too. Gotta be tough enough to fight yeah? Play a few matches with me, then we'll see about fightin' pokemon." She insisted.
Vandal sighed. "Fine, but... I dunno what you expect to get outta this." Scarlett shrugged. "Exercise, maybe a bit a' entertainment value." She smirked. Vandal chuckled. "Oh yeah? Just cause I ain't played before, ya think I'll be bad?" He suggested with a wicked grin. "Maybe ya haven't noticed, but my specialty is in illusion and misdirection." Suddenly he was no longer standing in front of her, he was dunking the ball into the basket, and also sitting on the bench by her bag, giving her ponytail a flip, and dribbling behind her, all at the same time. "I can make you see what I want you to see sitting from that bench over there, not even having to lift a finger." He explained further, watching with some amusement as Scarlett kept turning and looking at each version of Vandal, trying to work it out in her head. "What's the point of working out when I can appear to be strong? To do impossible physical feats? Look however I want, be whoever I want, have whatever I want..." He stared at Scarlett as she closed her eyes and folded her arms. "I mean... Why bother?" He yawned, and suddenly, Scarlett threw a punch, knocking Vandal off balance and flat on his back. His illusions disappeared, leaving Vandal looking stunned as Scarlett moved to sit on the Zoroark with a serious expression. "'Cause it in't real." She said simply. "An' if it in't real, it in't worth shite. Misdirection and illusion has it's time, place, an' uses, but you can't rely on that far everythin', cause what if someone sees past all that? Knocks ya flat on yer back like I did? What then?" She raised her eyebrows, waiting for a response, but Vandal just looked away, having none. Her point made, Scarlett stood back up, letting Vandal get back to his feet. "Neu, lets try this again."

Zak rolled his shoulder as he glared down at his communicator. That freaking b***h... For once, the annoyance wasn't at Scarlett, but that brat he'd accidentally bumped into, who went and called him out. The one who looked like she'd never had the slightest respect for authority, let alone her elders. The one who looked like she was probably only a few years older than him, but still gave off the vibe of a defiant teenager. The total b***h. He shook it off and put his communicator away once he'd gotten over it, going to get some food, and preparing to find a way to send the book to Scarlett, and move on with his own stuff. He'd spent way too much time here, just working on his computer. It was good, he'd been productive, but he was definitely getting stagnant.
He frowned when he received a text, and scowled, not so much when he saw it was from Scarlett, but more when he saw what it said. Way too much time here-- she had seventeen badges?! How in the hell! He needed to get his own pokemon going. He didn't really care about number, in total, so much as consecutive order, but still, that meant she'd been busy. And likely training. He didn't need her catching up to him, on top of everything else. He didn't--
He stopped still, before turning and back tracking, looking down the busy street at a.... shockingly familiar redhead. What the hell. What the hell? How was she.... here? Either she'd lied about how many badges she had, or in the time he'd spent working -- endlessly, it felt like, but he'd spent just as much time having his attention split -- she'd actually pretty much lapped him. Gone elsewhere, gotten badges, and came back to gym battle here. Because that's where she was-- outside the gym. She didn't go in, though. He narrowed his eyes, shifting, then moving to follow behind her, frowning. It looked an awfully lot like she was heading to the basketball court, and somehow, she was. What the hell? Seriously! Did she come back fore reminiscing? Or was she planning to try and beat him on that court, too? He grimaced, and though he wanted to storm off, he didn'. He paused and stayed to watch, but.... Who the hell was that with her? Staying very subtle and in the shadows, he moved to better listen. After a moment, he released Meebus, so that he could confirm what he was starting to suspect-- that the 'person' Scarlett was talking to, was actually a pokemon. Meebus wasn't psychic or anything like that, but he was a good second opinion, and, well... he had glasses? So nerd => smart, etc.
Meebus confirmed -- or, as Zak took it, gave his opinion -- that Zak was right, and Zak bristled. So she was even stealing his training techniques! Using basketball to train pokemon was his thing! It was his ******** thing! He very nearly stormed over to wrench the ball from her, but instead he darkened his stare and raised his shoulders, glaring at the scene. He didn't find all the goings on amusing, and instead, he took the chance to bring that book she'd given him, out of his bag. He flipped through it, frowning. He'd already scanned it, had most of it translated... He tried to ignore her 'warning' about the value of proper translation, and looked up to Meebus. He handed the book over to the ghost, without saying a word, but the pokemon seemed to catch on, and darted off. The book would seem to appear close by, not immediately within sight. Zak didn't want to distract. He would observe once they actually started playing.... and then slip away before there was any chance he might get noticed....

Unlike Zak had done with her, Scarlett didn't hold back with Vandal, nor did she allow him and practice, just pointers here and there. The point of the exercise was to get him to move around and sweat. He wasn't allowed to use illusions, just his body. With him providing a warm body, she could practice moving faster with the ball, dribbling around him, faking, doing layups and shots from a distance. Given that Vandal was just playing defense, there wasn't as much instruction he needed as far as game play other than the fact that he needed to stop her from scoring, which he failed to do on many occasions, but he got progressively better over time. "Alright, how long are we gonna do this eh? Keep it up and I'm not gonna have the energy to fight.." Vandal asked, getting some water from the nearby fountain. "Heh, you wimpin' out on me?" Vandal looked mock offended. "I'm only human captain.... Oh wait-- no I'm not." Scarlett laughed at that. "Fine fine, just a few more rounds, I think I finally figured out how to get around your midair block." Vandal looked confused. "Thought I was the one who was supposed to be trainin' here." He suggested flatly. "Well ya do need the exercise, an' I wanted a warm body to play with to practice, so it's a win win." Scarlett suggested with a grin. Vandal didn't look so amused though. "Fine, one more round, but this time, we do things my way." Scarlett's interest was piqued as she quirked a brow. "I'm listnin'." She suggested. "I get to use my illusions. Not on the ball, we just make this three on one. Even the odds a bit since ya have more experience on me." He suggested, and Scarlett grinned widely at the prospect. "Ya're on, but one condition. Ya're illusions can't move any faster than you. I daen't want none of that teleportin' business." She insisted. "Agreed." Vandal nodded, splitting into three. With more players, Scarlett had a harder time getting through since she was only used to playing one on one, but she adjusted fairly easily since it was much like one on one but three times back to back. Scarlett faked, twisted, and maneuvered her way around the three Vandals and eventually scored a basket, though it was long and hard fought. "Ha.... haha.... Not bad...." Vandal suggested, letting the other two images flicker out. "Yeah...." Scarlett agreed hesitantly. "But I took too long, and had you been better defensively, you would have had an easier time stealing from me, or at the very least blocking me. Three on one is no easy feat." Vandal smirked and shifted form. "Are you saying I'm not good enough Mishka?" Scarlett deadpanned at Vandal's Zak imitation. "Not funny..." She muttered. Now she could somewhat see why he didn't like her imitation. Vandal shifted back compliantly, still somewhat amused as Scarlett sighed. "Come on, let's get some real training in far ya. Want a cool down? I can have Pearl hose ya off." She suggested with a grin. "Hise down from a mega blastoise? Ha, no thanks." Vandal insisted as Scarlett grabed her new basketball and walking over to her bag, though she paused as she noticed that a familiar book had mysteriously appeared next to her bag on the bench. She picked it up, a lopsided grin forming on her face. "Ah.... So you are watching.... Good. I was starting to worry you'd forgotten about me a stór...." She chuckled, storing the book away in her bag. "Huh?" Vandal asked, a little lost. "Nothing. Let's go." Scarlett insisted.

Sticking her book in her bag, Scarlett pulled up her conversation with Zak again, reaffirming that he hadn't yet responded, and yet obviously he must have read her text. Chuckling, Scarlett shook her head and glanced around. She was mostly curious how he'd managed to get her book on that bench without her noticing.
Why, thank you! That was quick. Find any useful info?
She commented with some amusement. Had he really been in Castelia? He had to be to have dropped off her book, but did that mean that like her, he'd managed to circle around, or had he stayed here the entire time? Somehow it was hard to imagine Zak staying in one place for too long, at least without reason.

As Scarlett walked through Castelia, she focused on her xtransciever and her amusement with Zak. It had been a while since she'd been able to try and discern Zak's intentions. Had he left the book there without a word to let her know he was watching? Was he trying to intimidate her? Or was it simply a reward for doing so well collecting badges? She couldn't see it being the latter, given that it was her book, and he was only borrowing it as part of his reward. "Are you even trying to look for pokemon..?" Scarlett sighed and glanced up, closing the device for now, figuring that she should probably find an opponent for Vandal. "Really, I expected ya to find ya'self an opponent. I daenno what you'd feel comfortable battlin'." She suggested. "Um, excuse me..." Scarlett glanced down to a young boy who looked dressed up like a magician, but without the top hat. "What?" Scarlett demanded flatly. "You said you're looking for an opponent, right? W-wanna battle?" He offered. "Sure kid, I'll take ya on." Vandal agreed.
The kid turned out to be a young dragon tamer who hadn't expected Vandal to actually be a pokemon, but nevertheless he battled them valiantly. The start of the match had been easy, but when he was hit with status effects and left without type advantages, Vandal slowly began to struggle more in battle for his win. Still, it was good experience for him, so the fight wasn't entirely pointless. Afterwards though, Vandal was exhausted, even after getting healed at the pokemon center, so Scarlett returned him to let him rest as she traveled to Lacunosa.

Zak wanted to leave when the illusions came out, he seriously did, but honestly, that was probably the best test of her skill. He moved further away, ready to leave, but lingered to watch. She broke through the defense, though it took her a while. Initially, he was counting missed opportunities, but as it became increasingly clear the illusionist was a lost cause, he just kept track of her, calculating what he could have done differently, what he would have done differently, and what she should have done differently. Honestly, all this did was make him want to play some basketball. He was pretty sure there was an air strip in... whatever place Skyla was in. Mistralton? He could go there. Play some ball with some of his pokemon, while the others trained. He did need to get back on that, and he needed to figure out where the best place to do it was.
Any interest in lingering broke when the ******** pokemon changed into him. That was just disturbing. What the hell? Again, the urge to stride over and intervene was chewing at him, but he turned and left instead, discomfort and anger bubbling up deep in his stomach. He glanced down in frustration as his wrist watch went off, indicating a message. He frowned, ignoring it for a moment as he swept through the city, and headed for one of the routes to get some clean space where he could sit down, and work on his computer. When he arrived, he opened the chat on his laptop, rather than his watch, and read the message. Yeah, well, at least he didn't have to acknowledge the badge thing. Yet. He did want to find out how many of those were consecutive, though.

Inhaling deeply, Zak closed his eyes a moment. Another response from Scarlett. Was she bored or something? She was replying ridiculously fast. Then again, he supposed, pulling up the message on his laptop, he probably was too.
Text to Scarlet:
You're right, I did, according to our deal. How are your basketball handling skills? Been practicing?
As if he didn't know. As if she didn't know he already knew. But, it was just another power move. A reminder that he knew where she was, and she didn't know where he was. That he was watching her, and that he knew more about her, than she knew about him. That he was in control.
Why he had such a desperate need to constantly prove that, well... there were a plethora of possible reasons. For now, though, his focus was on getting to the Desert. He was feeling lazy in his training, at least to start off.

Zak pushed himself up and closed his laptop, but as he put it away, Meebus popped up in front of him, blank expression unusually close. Zak stared flatly back at him, frozen just as he was pulling his hands out of his back. "... Do you need somesing, Meebus?" he asked flatly. The ghost pokemon's appearance wavered a bit as he stared unblinkingly back, letting the silence stretch out a bit. 'There is an egg event going on, Zak-hav,' he informed him. He finally moved back some. 'You can collect the eggs in various locations, and exchange them for prizes. Additionally, you may occasionally come across prizes within the eggs themselves, or while searching for them,' he explained, 'It is nearly done, but perhaps we could obtain a few to exchange.'

Zak stared at the rotom for a long moment. ".... How do you know zis, Meebus?" he asked, his voice even. He was pretty sure the pokemon had been with him the majority of the time since he let him out, and he hadn't heard anything about this. Maybe he'd disappeared when Zak was watching Scarlett, or when he was replying, and he didn't notice, but he could have sworn he'd felt the static of his presence near the back of his neck the entire time.
Meebus stared at him, and again, silence lingered as his visage wavered. .... I used your computer when you were watching Miss Fortune play basketball, to see if there was anything of interest, he explained simply. Zak narrowed his eyes. Yeah.... Alright, that was almost believable. The pause could have been from being worried he'd get mad at his computer being used. But somehow, Zak didn't really buy it. He continued to stare at Meebus, who maintained his usual, blank expression, as he pulled up his communicator to call Lidia for a ride to his next location.
