Miyako tried her best, she was so ready to get the heck done with this place. She pushed herself harder than the little courtier should have and still couldn't really add physically to the party. So instead, she threw herself a little pity party and didn't talk hardly at all.

Day 4 ResultsDenbe would take the lead this day, feeling SUFFICIENTLY ENERGETIC. He would hope that his enthusiasm would bleed off to his traveling companions, and for the most part, it did. Forging ahead and coaxing his allies to keep up, he helped them to cover far more ground than they did the past two days. Kojiro tried to emulate this, though rather than finding shortcuts, he seemed intent on making them - something that just took too much time, and before any real progress was made, Denbe had already found a quicker way around. Kagae's mapreading did help, though. He got a better feel of their positioning and the scale, and was able to guide Denbe along some faster trails that he might have otherwise overlooked. Masuyo helped bridge the gap between the faster and slower samurai, keeping the party together when it started to get spread thin. It was thanks to her effort that the party didn't get split at all. Miyako was not cut out for this line of work, and her legs were undoubtedly sore at this point. She tried to keep up, she really did, but it was so exhausting. Hopefully they would get to where they needed to be soon... The group travels 29 miles, with was definitely respectable! A total of 99 miles have been traveled. CLOSE FRIGGIN' ENOUGH.Everyone needs to eat 2 days' worth of rations due to how much calories they must have burned. -------------------- As the group has traveled on in the day, the stormclouds in the east seem to move closer and closer. Evening seems to come early because of how dark it seems to grow, and the wind begins to pick up. Very distant thunder can be heard, and it seems that the Jade Wardens (and company!) were in for a storm with no shelter to speak of. Well, until the last rays of light indicate the hibernation of Lord Sun for the night. The outline of a castle soon comes into sight in the distance, and what looks like its surrounding town. Camping outside seems like a bad idea (but one I won't discourage any of you from), so it's up to you if you wish to go ask whomever lives here if you can partake of their hospitality. An Intelligence/Hunting (Wilderness Lore) vs TN 15 will give you a good indication on how much time you have left until the storm is upon you.

Trying her best to be graceful while in an extreme amount of pain, Miyako was the first to let out a gleeful squeal when they saw the castle, damned what anyone else thought. Placing a smile back on her face, she began continuing the trek towards the castle/town. It might have been foolish, but she just knew she'd be the one to get sick if they stayed out in the weather.
Once there, it was a matter of getting their attention and hoping for the best.

@ Kojiro:
Without raises, you can expect it to be upon you before midnight. You probably have at least a rokugani hour, but you can't narrow it down much more than that.
--------------------
As Miyako suddenly takes the lead and rushes towards the castle, she approaches the gate with reckless abandon.
First warning sign to everyone else who probably isn't that carried away with the moment, the castle's gates are open.
The second, as you neared, is that a man stood before them as you rounded the hill, dressed in a cloak and a straw hat. He had his katana drawn and out at his side, and stood there, unmoving, save for the flowing of his clothes in the wind.

Apparently, the decision would be made for Kojiro by Miyako's rush to the castle. Kojiro would reach out in an attempt to slow down the little courtier, but she seemed to get a second wind and literally out paced people to the castle.
Once Kojiro reached Miyako, he noticed the man standing there with his katana drawn. "You there." The Scorpion barked. "State your purpose and sheathe your sword.

He was already out in the open- and it wasn't terribly dark yet. Watching one Scorpion, and then the other, rush ahead, Denbe frowned uncertainly, eying the man with his sword drawn, and cautiously approached... making certain to keep his own hand away from his weapon, and not appearing hostile.
Oh, yes. And wincing at Kojiro taking a tone of command before any knowledge of the situation was clear. Peeling his eyes, the Hare looked for any signs that might indicate what sort of clan or the like this man was from what little he could see of him.

@ Denbe:
He wears no distinguishing garments. There is absolutely no way you can tell who he is, and barely that it's a he. The way he's dressed, he's most likely a ronin, if you had to guess.
@ Kojiro:
You get no response, and this man guarding the gate seems rather unimpressed with your tone. He doesn't even budge, let alone sheathe his weapon.

Well this day was just going from bad to worse. Whether it be from an impending storm to a spooky castle, all the way down to the change in portent. Was it even possible to get an opposite reading by looking at the stones upside-down? She wouldn't have believed it had she not seen it today. If that was even what she saw... maybe the Hiruma had just been wrong.
Not that it mattered yet. For now there was a deep inherent problem of impending storm versus even scarier shelter. Also the problem of a brash bushi. Strange too... she had always imagined Scorpions not to be the type to speak without thinking. Unfortunately she didn't know her way around words very well either, so all she could really do was pray the other Scorpion could make up for her kinsman's error. In the meantime it was worth taking a hard look at the immediate area 'least anything else catch them by surprise.

Kojiro would wrinkle his nose and pick up a small stone. He'd then toss it in front of the katana wielder to see his reaction.

Miyako was tired, not stupid and as soon as the man appeared, she paused but made no move towards her weapon.
"Pardon my clansman, he seeks only to protect his charges and does not think clearly. We are simply seeking shelter for the night. We mean you no harm."

@ Masuyo:
You don't see any hidden attackers or anything. Doesn't mean that they aren't there, just that you don't see them.
But, for what it's worth, you don't really see anybody. You're not sure if you can hear anybody either, since the whistling wind is beginning to pick up.
@ Kojiro:
You throw a rock. The man seems unmoved by your demonstration. Or your aim. You're not entirely sure which.
@ Miyako:
You offer your explanations for your clansman's behavior, but the katana-wielding stranger doesn't seem to have any of it. He shrugs off your words carelessly, and doesn't even seem to consider them. He remains with his weapon drawn, unyielding in his stance.

Okay, one more try then, she thought to herself. After that, she was tired and sore enough she'd let the Bushi have at him as far as she was concerned. Giving the rock throwing Bushi a quick glare, she spoke once more. "We are seeking shelter here and have permission to be here by order of the Jade Magistrates. Stand down so that we may each pass the night comfortably."

Denbe hadn't much to add. If appealing to his duty to the empire and their authority didn't move the man... then given how dangerous that storm looked, and how they would need to inspect the castle anyway, given its proximity to the location where their target was said to have vanished...
Well. If he really had to, he'd deal with him. He had to give him a chance first.
This didn't, however, stop the Hare from looking slowly around, shifting his eyes, more concerned about noticing any danger than letting it show that he was in search of it. Just because he wanted the man to have a chance to peacefully move aside, didn't mean he wasn't thinking that all that silently standing in the way could be buying time for an ambush, or archers to get in place in the castle.
