Stella's jaw dropped as he slid to one knee and took the ring from her fingers. Her hands shook a bit and she couldn't believe that she appeared to be more nervous that he was. They hadn't talked about getting married in a year or more. This was sort of.. Obviously planned by him but a total surprise to her. Her own blueish green eyes staring into his. It took her a few seconds to register everything and when it all clicked she squealed and smiled brightly. She was speechless for a few moments, hoping that she didn't say something dumb. "Well duh!" She said the words loud enough for people to turn their heads and see what was going on. Stella was overly excited as he slipped the ring on her finger.

 "For awhile... Just for a little bit...." Gage sat back down in his chair, looking over at her... "I have one question for you though Stell, one that's far more important..." he reached into his jacket, pulling out an envelope "As impossible as it seems, there is something more than that..." setting the envelope in front of her, he met her eyes, the Army insignia was scrawled across the front of the envelope. "Can you wait for me through that?" "I didn't think I'd live through it... But there she was... Saving me again...."

Stella was shocked when he said there was something more important than the two of them getting engaged. She frowned and watched him reach a letter out of his pocket and then set it in front of her. Her eyes looked scared as she lowered them to look down at the envelope. Instantly tears welled in her eyes and her heart felt as heavy as a rock. "Why didn't you tell me before hand..." Her voice was soft as she picked up the envelope and handed it back to him, afraid to meet his gaze. Of course she could and would wait for him through that.. But it hurt that he hadn't said something sooner.

Remember when I said I was on a trip to get cars for Horatio? That was.... That was basic.... They're planning on shipping me out.... I'll be gone eighteen months..." he bit down on his bottom lip and his eyes met hers "I didn't tell you thanks to fear.... I was afraid of your reaction...." he took a deep breath and took her hand in his "I don't want to lose you over this." "I didn't think I'd live through it... But there she was... Stella stared at him in disbelief.. He had lied to her. As much as she wanted to get up and leave she sat rooted to the chair, looking at the new ring on her finger and then up to Gage. "Eighteen months...." She flinched a little when he took her hand, and she sighed and looked away. "You could never lose me over something like this.. But it still hurts to know that you lied to me.. Even if it was out of fear of my reaction.. Or reactions.." She felt sick to her stomach as she raised her eyes to his.

Looking over at the waitress, he took a deep breath and looked away as she set there food down in front of them and vanished once more. "I know Stella, it hurts, and I'm sorry... Very sorry, that I didn't tell you sooner..." "I didn't think I'd live through it... But there she was... Saving me again...."

Stella sighed and smiled at the waitress as a thank you. Her stomach was to tied up and twisted to eat. She looked at Gage and forced a smile. "When do you leave?" Her words were soft but full of emotion. They sounded hurt, confused but at the same time completely and totally in love. No matter what happened she would always love him... But for the time being it was going to take some time to get used to the news. And even more time to realize that he was going to be gone for more than a year..

Stella nodded slowly and picked up her fork, taking a bite out of her desert so she wouldn't have to respond. Her mind was buzzing with thoughts of how she was going to be able to go eighteen months without him. As much as she would rather not think about it it was almost unavoidable so she sat down her fork and chewed her lip. "You have to promise your gonna make it back.." After hearing so many stories of girlfriends, fiances and wives losing their solider it scared her to death that he was doing this.

I promise I will do everything in my power to come back to you, no matter what." he sat back in his seat, looking at her and taking a bite of his dessert. "I didn't think I'd live through it... Stella giggled and started to calm down a bit, after a few bites of desert she got sick of it and sat her fork down yet again. "Can we go home..." Her voice was soft as she was almost afraid to ask. She only had a little over two weeks left with him and she wanted to spend as much time with him as possible.

"Every night, she's all I see...." Gage sighed and nodded, he paid their bill and stood, taking her hand in his, he led her out of the restaurant....
The weeks they had together passed far too quickly, and soon enough, Gage was standing in their apartment in full military uniform, his bag in one hand as he looked around the apartment and then over at Stella. "I love you Stell." he leaned down and kissed her softly. He'd taken the time off and had spent every moment he'd had with her.... But it was done, and now it was time for him to ship out.... He'd leave first thing in the morning... This was goodbye for the next eighteen months..... "Her image burned into my eyes.... My life in her heart, heart heart in my hands...."

Stella couldn't believe how fast the weeks had gone by. She skipped quite a bit of school during that time and it was going to be a b***h to make up but it was worth it for all the extra hours she got to spend with Gage. Seeing him standing there in his uniform break her heart... She loved him more than anything.. And seeing him standing there ready to leave hurt. "I love you too Gage..." Her voice was soft and she tried to hold onto that last kiss forever, but eventually had to let him go. It was going to be an incredibly long eighteen months and she just wished that she didn't have to say goodbye..

"Every night, she's all I see...." Gage pulled Stella into his arms and gave her one more kiss, thorough and burning with the need he held for her. His eyes burned as he released her from the grip he held onto her with, looking into her eyes for a long moment before he turned and left the apartment...
It'd be days before Stella would hear from Gage, he vanished off the radar as the military wanted him to. When she finally did, he was in Egypt, and sent her an email, hoping she'd get it.
Stell,
Made it to Egypt safely... Already missing you... I'm sorry I couldn't reach you any sooner, they wouldn't let me do anything while I was in transport... It isn't that bad here... Excessively hot, but there isn't too much happening here... The military seems to be just... Here.... I love you Stella, and I hope you're doing alright.
he sent the message and shut down his laptop, looking around the petite room he shared with another soldier... His stomach churned as he set it aside and started unpacking his things, putting it all where it went. The picture of Stella was taped to the top of his trunk where it sat the foot of his bed... He looked at that picture and sighed softly, he'd been gone all of a week and a half, and already he was sick with missing her... Only seventeen and a half months to go, he thought with a frustrated sigh...
Sleep took forever to reach him as he laid on the bed, and four am seemed to come too quickly as the alarms went off and it was time for him to get up and get to PT.... He pulled on his uniform and made his bed, making sure everything was just right before he left the barracks, heading to where he was needed. "Her image burned into my eyes.... My life in her heart, heart heart in my hands...."

She had taken his pillow off the bed and put it in the closet so that it wouldn't lose his scent when she washed the sheets. Her stomach was tied into a million knots and her throat was choked up with tears that she couldn't seem to cry. She forced herself out of bed and into the shower, getting dressed and going to school.. Desperately needed to catch up because of all the time spent with Gage. A bit over a week had gone by and she still hadn't heard from Gage. But everyday she checked her email, waiting to see if he had sent her a message.. Finally she got one. Reading over she smiled a bit, it was hard for her to smile without him here. I'm glad you made it safely.. Don't worry about replying quickly. I understand that you have more important things to do than sit on your computer. The weather isn't that bad here.. But I don't really notice it anymore. There are so many things that I wan't to say but I know I shouldn't.. I love you a lot...~ StunnaShe clicked send and sighed, it felt good to be able to email him but at the same time she wished she had said so much more. Somethings she knew would of only made him sad or distracted him so she tried to stay away from those topics. Finishing up some home work she shut down her laptop, crawling into bed and rolling onto her side. There was a picture from on the nightstand. In it contained a picture of them one of their friends had taken.. It was the stupidest picture ever but entirely hilarious.. Stella was smearing cake frosting on his cheek.. The picture reminded her of her birthday so she refused to replace it. Hours must of passed by before she fell asleep, her dreams haunted by images of a bloodied and or hurt Gage. She tossed and turned all night and when the sun finally shone in her window she sat up. With a sigh she hopped in the shower and got ready for the day that had become so routine. Nothing new ever happened.. And nothing ever changed.. And she had a sickening feeling that it would be like this for another seventeen and a half months. ☆═━┈┈━═☆
