I see that the manual Steam links to is out of date. It doesn't account for the two latest expansions. confused

It should cover the basics, although the Papacy, HRE, Japan, China, the Hordes, and the general casus belli system have been overhauled.

Well the HRE is just a bunch of small states. You can play as one nation within them, become Emperor, and eventually pass enough reforms to form the HRE. biggrin

As for the Papal States, I think it's a lot trickier. o:

I tried playing as them once. They start out small and can't really expand north because of the HRE. I failed pretty quickly. xp
