"Sorry, my childhood was more focused on learning which fork was the salad fork, the dinner fork, and the oyster fork, and less spelunking," Revenge would say to Kuori, as he did not make sudden moves and slowly went for his sword.

Readying his rod, Ruin would add, "Still better than life in an orphanage ran by a mage. I lost count how many times I was struck by a floating stick."

"Three different kinds of forks? You're joking, right? What's the difference?" Illikan asked with a hint of laughter, having difficulty trying to imagine a nice plate with a line of forks going all the way down the table beside it. Just listening to Kuori's outlook as an underground dweller, next to Ruin's story, all made for an amusing set of contrasts. All of it sounded more interesting than growing up learning to dig holes, mend clothes, sharpen blades and pound out dents in armor, but who knew, maybe if he went on about military terms or all the different names of parts of weapons and armor some of them would draw blank looks too.
He'd lead the group to one side, looking to try and draw just a single roper at first- or force the lot to come at them together rather than surrounding them.

((Here is the map. Unless Kuori or Ilikan take a moment to explain to the rest of the party where the suspected ropers are only they see R1-R3. Everyone else only sees a stalagmite. So far, the ropers have made no moves to attack. What does the party do?))
Kuori will wait for Illikan to move forward before taking the spot where he currently stood. "Left one then? Its the closest. Edge forward, I can hit it from back here when it awakens."
"So, It is one of those rocky things..." Ruin said... before bolting for the middle rock thing. "ROYLEE UNDIEeees!"

"There's actually around a dozen different-" Revenge started to say to Ilikan, but Ruin charged off.
But where were the ropers?!
Looking around frantically, he would draw his sword but not advance. "Valac, you going to let short stuff show you up?" he'd say aloud to the Barbarian, hopefully prompting him to engage as well.

"Thought we were gonna talk it to death." Responded Valac as he followed in after Ruin drawing his vanguard blade.
As Ruin runs in an attacks a stalagmite his sword bounces off solid stone. The resulting shock wave from his attack reverberates uncomfortably through his hands. On the bright side there was now small chip in the rock for his effort, though it definitely was not the roper. However, Ruin hears gravel shifting and rocks grinding as a large creature shifts behind the Stalagmite he had just struck.
Ruin soon found himself staring at a large blodshot eye and a circular mouth full of razor sharp teeth. He had found the roper and it looked...hungry!
((Everyone roll initiative! The whole party is now aware of the Roper R2))

"Found it!" Ruin shouted back to the party. Resisting the urge to drop his sword for a moment, he would add "Illykan, weren't you supposed to be here?"
"Wait, is that an option?" Revenge would ask Valac, despite taking a defensive combat stance with the roper's reveal.

As the little tiefling charged off, Illikan would frown, putting his javelin back and reaching for his hammer. So much for drawing them out and avoiding being flanked then. More interesting this way, he supposed.
He couldn't help but give off a loud crack of laughter as Ruin suddenly realized he'd run in ahead.
Ruin ran off ahead and veered towards the left "No ..." and his sword clanged on the rock as the roper awakened. "You idiot." She drew her mace and got ready to save his a**. "THE ONE WITH THE EYE!"

Gate Keepers
(Squares filled entirely by stone are blocking terrain, otherwise stones taking up roughly half a square provide partial cover, and stones smaller then that are difficult terrain to move over)
(Ruin is up! A particularly hungry roper looms over him!)

"I knew that! It could have been one you missed." Ruin shouted back, shifting forward and slashing. "You can thank me later!"
