Suddenly the galley is transformed into a forest glade... complete with bird song and a gentle breeze. Lyssan grins at them. "Come on, Kero... surely ye have to admit this is a much nicer abode than a smelly rocking cabin...."

Luna sees a butterfly and is off like a flash. Luciel looks down at his dinner and laughs. The bowls are carved from wood and the eating utensils are formed from twigs. "Aren't ye taking it a bit too far Mother dear...."
Lyssan smiles as she watches the tiny dragon chase the butterfly. "Naw... a bit of greenery is something we all can use from time to time. Luna, dear, come eat first then you can play."

Luna...you and Lyssan were right...I have been spanking you much too much lately...so I have been trying to think of a better system. I wanted to run it by you and Lyssan...and you as well, Luciel...and see what you thought.
I have figured I would do something like what Tam used to do with me. Luna...you will get three warnings, and then be punished...with a time-out. After that, if you keep doing it, I will send you to your room for an hour. If you keep doing it after that, Then...and only then....will I spank you.
I will make two exceptions to this. If you try to hurt someone, or you purposefully put your life in danger, then you will be spanked when you are caught. Lying is still bad as well...I won't spank you for it...but any lie you tell increases your next punishment by 50%....what that means, Luna...is that if you tell a lie, and you were going to the corner for ten minutes...the lie means you'll go there for fifteen instead.

I think it does...very organized...very structured...just like what you both need right now...I'll say it's a good plan...what do you say, mama?

Lyssan grins at him. "Not bad... not bad... I'd say my son has taught ye well. It is just like the one Ame used with him... I tended to be more flexible, but structure has it's place... in the scheme of things... I'm just not a very structured person, I"m afraid."

And I expect everyone here to help both of us with this...if either of us is doing something bad...or against the rules...even if it's me, Luciel...I expect you to give us a warning...is that okay with everyone?

We each answer to another....a system of checks and balances...the question is, does it apply to all of us...this structure I have just described? I enter into it voluntarily, for it is not fair to subject Luna to a disciplinary structure I do not abide by myself.

It is nice that ye wish to walk beside her... but know this... there will come a time when ye will serve her best, not by being her friend, but by being her father... the roles are not necessarily in opposition, but from time to time a friend will not look at things the way a father should.." says Lyssan quietly with a touch of sadness in her voice.

However...and I concede your point, Lyssan....I should practice what I preach...I cannot rightly expect Luna to learn not to curse...when I do so everyday. I must set the example. I am not here to be her friend, Lyssan....but among Dragonkind...especially among coppers...parents are expected to act like elder siblings...and vice-versa...They guard...discipline...but are ultimately subject to the same rules and consequences the children are subject to...with certain exceptions.
