((Jasmine!!!))
PostPosted: Wed Jul 19, 2006 9:52 pm

Who: Eula, Donato and Shaftin
What: "Have you ever heard of necromancy?"
Where: Great Hall, briefly, then walltops

Eula: Eula looked really put out now. Why did everything have to go the wrong way? Always. She half-heartedly finished off a pasty on her plate, not making eye contact with anyone at the table and looking as if she wasn't even completely aware she was eating. She eventually set her fork back down and looked across the table to Donato. "We should go for a walk," she said mildly. She was almost certain Donato would see her ulterior motive, but at this point she was hoping he'd be sympathetic enough to humor her. She pushed her chair back, standing hesitantly to see if Donato would go along as well.

Donato: Donato, too, sat distractedly nursing his dinner. His voracious appetite had suddenly disappeared. When Eula spoke, he was sympathetic - he'd want to get out of here for a while too. Did, in fact. He wasn't likely to be forgotten when Jasmine finally tracked them down. He set his fork down quietly across his plate and met her eyes. "Sure, sounds like a good idea. It's kind of stuffy in here anyway." He rose to follow her outside.

Eula: She turned and walked casually from Great Hall. She paused momentarily and shot a look back at the far side of the table. Something definitely crossed her mind for a moment, and she seemed resolved - but it passed and she shook her head a little and continued out the set of double doors, detouring up a set of staircases to the walltop - her usual haunt. Plus, it was less likely she'd run into the others up here... Gem and the other young ones didn't usually go up there. She said nothing as she walked along. It wasn't exactly an awkward silence... she just wasn't sure what there was TO say.

Donato: Donato followed Eula's line of vision and saw what she was contemplating. Looking back to her, he caught the shake of her head and offered a sympathetic grimace. He followed her out the doors - the warm summer night wasn't much cooler than Great Hall, but at least there was more space. He walked up the narrow steps to the walltops behind her, where a slight breeze broke the warmth of the night. "Well, now probably wasn't the most opportune time to tell your dad anyway." He offered.

Eula: She folded her arms on the ramparts and glanced out into the surrounding darkness in a contemplative manner. She turned to Donato. "Are you saying that to make me feel better about wussing out, or because you really think so?" she asked flatly. "Because if I don't tell him within oh.... ten minutes or so, he'll find out in a completely different manner."

Donato: He leaned back against the parapet next to her, his face turned toward her, but his eyes looking back across the grounds. "Well... a little bit of both. Ten minutes before the news is going to break anyway isn't very good, but it's probably still better if your dad hears it from you I guess." He shrugged, shaking his head. "No winning here tonight, though, huh?"

Eula: Eula looked down at her paws, distractedly tracing little circles into the stone wall she was leaned up against. She was quiet for a little bit. But she finally spoke up. "I did the right thing, right? Didn't I? Maybe Jasmine actually won't be angry. Because I think I did the right thing... I told everyone about the riddle, but I didn't want everyone to get all worried, especially Faith... what could would it have done to tell everyone the rest of the dream?"

Donato: He had to agree, in her shoes he might've done the same thing. It didn't make sense to further burden a ten-year-old abbess with all this. But then it wasn't quite fair to burden Eula with all this either, was it? He turned to look out across the forest beside Eula, putting an arm around her shoulders. "Seems like this sort of thing always falls in your lap, doesn't it? For what it's worth, I think you were right. Whether Jasmine agrees or not.... Well, we'll convince her. She really can't argue with you about it, I think."

Eula: “It does,” she said. “It does always fall in my lap. I don’t understand why either. I don’t want to complain, because I suppose it has to be someone. But why me? Of everyone.” Eula laughed a little at Donato’s last statement. “I wouldn’t challenge her. Not only does she like arguing, she likes arguing with me.” She fell silent for a bit again. “I just don’t want to be treated like a child. Sometimes I feel like Jasmine still treats me like that. I really don’t like it. I suppose she does it to everyone, but I had an issue with it even when I was younger... you’d think she would take it to heart that I don’t appreciate it.”

Donato: He nodded. "This is bound to be an... interesting discussion. But you're right, Jasmine's like that. With everyone. I don't know what you can do, though, other than call her on it. However helpful that might be." He cast a glance back toward the Abbey, wondering how long it would be before the storm broke.

Eula: Worrying was not one of Eula’s favorite pastimes, so she slid away from the topic of Jasmine for a moment. That would come to pass soon enough. So she fell upon her next topic. “Now, about telling my dad about this whole... thing. I really think you sh-”

Shaftin: “You really think he should - what? Stay and have your back?”

Eula: Eula winced heavily, revolving about to face her dad. It was clear where she had picked up her knack of creeping up unnoticed. “Something like that.”

Shaftin: “I saw you leave with a troubled look on your face. Though now it sounds like you have something to tell me,” he said calmly. He didn’t sound upset. Concerned, perhaps. He switched his gaze a couple times between Eula and Donato.

Eula: Which left Eula, pausing for a VERY LONG TIME. She wasn’t sure how to start.

Donato: Donato looked toward Eula as she started to speak, seeing where she was going and about to comment that he didn't exactly plan on pushing her into Great Hall to talk to her dad and running away. But when another voice spoke up behind him, he tensed. Then, recognizing the voice, he dropped his head for a moment and turned around. He took a breath and let it out. He, too, wasn't sure what to say. "Well..."

Eula: Eula was clearly conflicted on how to begin this conversation. She looked like she was about to speak on several occasions, but would change her mind. Finally she took a breath and cocked her head to the side. “Have you ever heard of necromancy?”

Shaftin: Shaftin had just stood there, looking from one young hare to the other, waiting for one of them to spill. When Eula finally, he looked at her intently. There was a long pause after Eula spoke, as he just stared at her.

Eula: Eula grimaced. “Now see, all this thought on how to bring this up and I picked the WRONG way. Okay,” she sighed. “You see, it really isn’t that big of a deal, but it seemed so random to find a way to tell you. But I guess you should know now... because things are happening...” She reached back and scratched the back of her neck to give her a moment to think. “You’ve heard of creatures here having dreams with Martin.”

Shaftin: “Aye. I’ve heard something of a riddle that came about recently in someone’s dream...”

Eula: “Mine...” Eula started quickly.

Shaftin: If Eula didn’t have his full attention before, she had it now. “Oh?”

Eula: Eula nodded a little, but fell silent again.

Donato:"Yeah, the spirits of the departed seem fond of Eula. They come back to visit her sometimes. And once in a while I get invited." Donato added. He glanced at Eula - do you want to tell him the rest, or shall I?

Eula: Donato speaking for a moment gave her the opportunity to collect her nerves while her father’s attention was turned to Donato

Shaftin: “Well...” he started slowly. “That isn’t so bad.” But he sensed something amiss... more to this story. “Do you know what the riddle is saying?” he tried.

Eula: “No,” Eula laughed nervously. “I’m really bad at riddles.” She was quiet for a moment as she looked at her father. “You see, Martin isn’t the only one I saw in my dream. In fact... I usually don’t see him when I have these dreams.” She saw her father about to speak, but kept going before she lost her nerve. “They aren’t often or anything. In fact, the last one I had was about those scorpions that we so kindly brought to Salamandastron.” She was talking quickly, trying to get through it. “It’s usually this fox named Ura... I met him when I first came to Redwall and he...” saved my life on several occasions “ended up dying in battle. But he comes to my dreams every so often to tell me something.... usually... bad,” she finished nervously.

Donato: "So you can imagine Eula's not being thrilled at the prospect of sharing the dream with the rest of the Abbey." Donato added. "Not exactly a morale-booster, for one thing."

Shaftin: “Makes sense...” he said slowly. “What did this Ura say?”

Eula: Eula took her time answering his question, considering it for a few moments. “Did you hear that bat, Gem, yell during dinner? About Faith dooming the abbey?” She paused for Shaftin’s reaction, which was slow, but he eventually nodded. “Well, we’re relatively sure she... overheard... a conversation between Donato and I. See, Ura said something about.... about... a decision Faith will make will cause bad things to happen.” Knowing he’d question her further on it, she shook her head. “No I don’t know what the decision will be, and no I don’t know what bad things will happen.”

Shaftin: Shaftin’s expression was of deep concern now. It was to his credit that he believed every word Eula said - but that worried him. He was silent for a few moments, then turned his gaze to the two of them.

Eula: Eula bit her lip. “And no, I don’t want you to stay and find out what it all means,” she finally said, anxiety in her voice. That was the hardest thing for her to say.

Donato: Donato glanced at Eula, understanding how she felt. "Anyway, we don't know how long this could be before anything happens at all. It could take years, for all Ura told her." He shook his head and looked up at Shaftin.

Eula: “Eula, I don’t think-” Shaftin started in a troubled tone.

Eula: “Dad,” she cut him off, frowning. “What I really want from everyone, for once, is... trust, I guess. I want Jasmine to trust me that we need to keep this quiet from Redwall. I want you to trust me enough to let me handle this and take Payton home. I want everyone to trust me to do the right things when all this hashes out.

Shaftin: He watched Eula. “I don’t want you to get so caught up that you think you can’t ask for help.”

Eula: Eula looked at the ground, then turned to Donato. “Then... can I trust YOU not to let me get in over my head?”

Donato: He smiled. "I would think so. I'm usually the first one to tell you I don't think something's a good idea."

Shaftin: He looked at Donato, then looked back at Eula. “Well... what can I say? But if you get into any trouble-”

Eula: “I’ll get help. Don’t worry. I’m not so stubborn to go at things alone. I DID make Donato stand here when I told you all this.” She paused. “Oh, and... don’t tell mom...”

Shaftin: He laughed. “We’re on the same page, don’t worry.”

Sideswipe smiled down at Gem, relieved that she was where he'd predicted. So maybe five years wasn't long enough to make them grow apart. He dropped his rump down onto the grass beside Gem, and leaned over to whisper conspiratorilly into her ear. "Secrets are only fun when you share them with others in exchanged for other secrets, making them others' secrets too and broadening the secrecy of the secret secret. I've got one...want to trade?"

::Jasmine's fists were clenched, her fangs were visible, and she took a step that seemed more like a stomp as she was about to go over and get a piece of that bat's mind for herself when she felt a tiny tug on her habit, and looked down, face the basic empathy of rage, to look at Faith's expression, and quickly faded::

::There was the pleading look of the daughter, and at the same time, the look of a stern, disappointed Abbess there, and it seemed for a moment, Jasmine faltered, unsure of which to obey and which to argue, about to speak, when she bit on her lip, and looked back, sighing, even with so many years in her belt, it felt far too bitter to argue with either side of Faith, and far too harsh for her as she watched impatiently upon Gem and Sideswipe...::

::And Faith smiled a little, before looking back to them herself::

::But Gem didn't smile, instead, her ears began to droop a little, as her head bowed a little, looking back to the foxes, then Sideswipe before whispering in his ear there...:: I stole my secret...

::Only to him could she admit things like this, and he needn't have added much more to confuse her than ask it of her::

::And with the teeniest little gulp, her toe claws and fingers twitching and fidgeting with themselves incessantly, she spoke with great urgency, still as low a whisper:: I lissenta Eula and Donato...

...Something really bad they said...

Stole a secret? The only way you could do that was by secretly listening to the secret sharing of the...Sideswipe blinked and rubbed a paw against his temple, stopping that train of thought before it got out of paw. Eavesdropping. Call it that and leave it alone.

Gem was acting entirely serious, which was a rare enough mood for her and so Sideswipe wasn't sure if he should make light of the situation. But still...the little bat seemed so agitated by her secret. "Was it about Jude's cooking? Or worse?" He whispered back.

::Suddenly Gem took a sidestep, hiding herself from Jasmine's view, obscured by the stripy stature of her uncle bodyguard, albeit the fact her wings poked out, and she kept peeking out far too often, although her ears picked up a little... Sideswipe's attempt at a joke didn't seem to have much effect to raise her spirits, before she took a tiny breath again, her paws held on her chest, just below her neck, clasped before she spoke, almost as if she were preying, or confessing::

Eula'n'Donato... I was gonna leap down'n'surprise 'em... when they started talking about a dream'n'deadbeasties'n'prem-

Prem-

Premunish-

Bad stuff. ::She settled for, taking a final, deep breath as she completed her whispered confession:: Faith'sapost to make an important decision...

N'if she makes a wrong choice... ::She began to fade off, something mumbled a little that sounded like 'beer hall room'... but considering her earlier outburst in the great hall... it didn't take much lateral thought to connect even more::

::Faith and Jasmine watched on, seemingly unaware, but watching, and waiting, Jasmine filled with impatience, Faith with concern::

: razz oor, unknowing cub, to think that such a face, such a little one could hold the sway and control of the abbey and all its fate...::

::Seemed like his initial reaction to albinism hadn't been totally unfounded...::

::Beer Hall Room...:::

::Rear Wall Broom?::

::Beer All Room?::

::We're all doo- Oh.::

::Sideswipe looked pensive for a moment, but then finally, the badger began to rise, his paw out, as an instinctive Gem quickly got on, scrabbling effortlessly into place atop his face, where she remained as curled up as she possibly could from view, when he turned to look at the others in waiting there...::

::He needed a moment, but he didn't have it, and he had to address it properly, and by Jasmine's waning patience, he knew he didn't have much more of it, before he spoke, and truer words couldn't have been thought...:: We need to speak with Eula and Donato.

~~~~~~~~~
::It wasn't much longer when an out of breath Foremole could have been heard scrambling the last steps on the ramparts, barely cresting into view when a paw came waving up at the collected hares, and the out of breath beast hauled himself up the last step:: Boi urr abbey gets...
Moles 'ent surposed to cloimb so hoigh, I surpontly sez... far too 'igh...
::And then, suddenly remembering himself, looked up with a blink of his tiny black eyes:: Oooh, ayyup now, the abbess be askin' yer to pop by 'ee orchards miss Eula... seemed roightly impor'an...
Eula had lapsed into a contemplative silence after explaining everything to her father. That was a lot off her chest, and she, admittedly, felt better after being able to tell him everything. Now she was resting her elbow on the walltop, chin in palm, thinking about how she was supposed to approach this topic when it came to others. It was hard to tell her father in some respects... but at least she had not just told her father that HE would be responsible for Redwall's doom.
She turned when she heard Foremole, offering him a half-hearted smile, not really bothering to wonder why he'd gone through the trouble of climbing up to the walltops. She was about to turn back around when he started speaking again.
She groaned at Foremole's message, passing a paw over her eyes. "Thank you," she said, paw still over her eyes. She waited a few moments, then turned back to Donato and her father, holding her paws up a bit as if to say 'Now what?'
"You should probably go," Shaftin offered, but he gave a little jerk of his head over his shoulder. "I need to get back down to the dining hall and check that Payton is keeping out of trouble.
Eula nodded a little and let him leave, knowing he was going because he'd just moments before say he'd let her deal with this herself.
She then flicked her gaze to Donato. "You should probably come along. Hold me off Gem if nothing else," she said, rolling her eyes a little as she reluctantly turned and headed for the stairs.
Donato too looked at Foremole curiously until the little creature shared his message. "Uh-oh," he groaned. He'd been dreading this moment. A sigh, then an expressive grimace at Eula's last comment. "Of course. Probably a good idea, that." Gem... He passed a paw over his eyes and shook his head. "One of these days..." he began as he accompanied Eula down the stairs.
Eula was silent the whole walk down to the orchard. It wasn't a sullen or uncomfortable silence, she just had a lot on her mind. She had some sorting out to do still and a very short time to do it. When they neared the orchard, her pace slowed considerably as she stretched her remaining time just a little.
Finally, with a sigh of frustration and resignation, she strode into the orchard to find the little congregation of curious creatures.
::There were surprisingly fewer beasts than she may have expected, as Jasmine and Sideswipe sat there now, with a tray of tea and various little scones and cakes before them, as Jasmine seemed herself in a very foul mood, eyes closed and not even looking up as a green tea steamed away as she held it in paw, not even sipping it, and Sideswipe looked awkwardly from her to the pair, with a smile, but a decidedly forced one...::
::...now when did the badger grow wings?::
::It almost seemed like a pair of wings had sprouted from either side of his head, either that, or it was a certain bat not doing a very good job of hiding herself, as her eyes JUST peered over to look at the two::
Well, now... ::Sideswipe began, looking to Jasmine, still not commenting... and then back to the two hares:: A little birdie told me you might have something to tell us?
::Although he tried to seem jovial, his expression said it all, with a disappointment, and almost a pleading to hear from them the truth, when he beckoned with a paw at the grass before them, to take a seat and help themselves to the tray::
PostPosted: Thu Aug 10, 2006 3:30 pm
Eula came upon the scene, taking it in without a trace of amusement. She noted, with irritation, Jasmine's obvious discontent. What did she even have to be angry about NOW? She noticed Sideswipe's hesitation, and his mysterious growing of wings. She was glancing around a bit more though, wondering where Faith had gone.
She eyed Jasmine a bit, then rolled her eyes as if at Jasmine's ridiculous immaturity and addressed Sideswipe.
"I bet that little birdie said no such thing," Eula said lightly. "Because the birdie heard a conversation that didn't concern her, so she probably already knows that I have no desire to tell you."
She didn't look as if she was about to take any bribes of tea or cake, standing there rather than taking a seat. "What do you know already? We can work from there." Eula wasn't stupid. There was always the chance that Gem had misunderstood something or didn't hear the whole conversation.
She was still glancing around a tad anxiously, ears lifted warily, wondering if Faith had decided to pull a Gem and eavesdrop on the scene.
((Work tomorrow, so I figured I ought to post before I go to bed, or Tracy might kill me. sweatdrop ))
Donato walked down to the orchard with Eula, respecting her silence. He felt he was here for moral support more than anything - that and making sure Eula didn't actually kill Gem.
When they arrived, Donato was above all alarmed by the sight of the tea service. It struck him as almost macabre, especially juxtaposed with Jasmine's demeanor. Donato's annoyance stemmed primarily from Gem's presence - was it really necessary to include the intrusive Dibbun in this? If he and Eula were to be treated as hardly more than children, why was it that the little bat should be sitting in on the whole thing? He shook his head. At this point, it hardly mattered, as she had once again heard everything no-one wanted her to know.
He certainly had to hand it to Eula - she was playing this very well. In her place, he'd have told everything without even waiting to see what Jasmine and the others knew. He stood beside the haremaid, paws folded behind his back, looking at a point somewhere off to the side of the group before them while he waited to hear Jasmine's answer.
:: Of faith there was no sign, and Gem, instantly seemed to curl her wings in a little with a sudden whimper at the further talk about the birdie, and there was a tense silence over everything, until one voice emerged::
No.
::It was Jasmine, who turned her eyes on the pair:: It's you, who needs to tell us everything.
::Sideswipe raised a paw to interject, but took one look at the vixen, and reminded of days past and her infirmary manner, decided to take in the better part of valour and decided best to stay out of it...::
If you think this is about my daughter, then you are mistaken. ::She seemed to curl her paws around that cup tighter and tighter, as if it were ready to give way to her in moments:: She is not present primarily for that fact.
This is about our abbey, our home, Eula... not telling Faith anything bad as a means to see she doesn't take it harshly I can forgive... maybe even thank you for.
But not telling us something about our home being in danger is near inexcusable! ::She suddenly looked up, glaring daggers disapprovingly at both of them:: Do you have, or were you given ANY valid reason that said you should NOT tell any of us about this, so that we may have planned for it, prepared ourselves for what was coming?!
I have known you two over many seasons, many trials and falls and this is NOT what I expected from either of you...
If you have a reason why she should stop asking and kindly remove our noses from your business, then I would like to hear it now and for myself, why you could not or WOULD not tell us about something regarding our home!!
::And she stopped, and waited::
((Hee, my last post before I go! ^^ ::Hug:: ))
Eula could only stare at Jasmine in disbelief. She was strongly tempted to match Jasmine's frustrated tone, but forced herself to speak calmly, even if her tone was belied by the expression of indignation on her features.
"First off, you HAVE known me for a long time, which is why I'm puzzled that you think demanding answers from me is the right way to go. I've never taken kindly to being treated like a child, and I certainly won't now that I am not, in fact, a child." Eula was going to address that first and foremost, because Jasmine was sure to get nothing out of being condescending to Eula.
"And you're right, this is about Redwall, and it does concern the abbey. It was my judgment call and I felt it was better not to worry everyone with what I was told. I don't have anything specific to tell anyone... no specific event, time... nothing. Why am I supposed to just walk around worrying everyone when neither them nor I can do anything right now? I did it for Redwall and I did it for myself. Everyone would just worry, and I would be pestered incessantly with questions that I don't know the answer to."
Eula paused to collect her thoughts for a moment. She had managed to keep a calm, even tone thus far, and planned to continue doing so.
"I'll have you know that the things I learn in dreams, unless I'm specifically told to do so... I have NO obligation to tell anyone. It's my choice to make, that's why I'm told. I didn't have to tell any of you about Martin and the riddle, but as the case happens to be, I'm really rotten at riddles, and Redwall loves hearing about Martin... so I gave everyone something to think about while I deal with other things that are going on."
Eula paused again, then shot one last statement at Jasmine, the irritation clear in her voice this time. "Do not play High and Mighty with me, trying to guilt-trip me into telling you things. My decisions always have and always will be for the good of others. Don't give me your "would not tell" nonsense. I made a decision, and by now you ought to trust me enough to know that I had reasons for it."
