Miyako frowned and thought. It was possible that the Crab was doing this for the safety of the party. Which was a good thing. However, it had gone against all of his previous behaviors. She'd calmed down after the 'enlightening' look into Denbe and Kojiro. So -that- was why Kojiro had so easily given her his tent. He already had one to share. Stifling an ill timed giggle, she glanced around just as Denbe got pensive.
And she made a few attempts at sorting things out, but realized she didn't know enough about hunting or trap making to draw any sorts of conclusions "Something's not quite adding up. This is awfully far from camp for protection, isn't it, Ujina-san? Why would they be set up out this far?"

"I'm tempted to head back to camp. Our mission isn't to follow through a warren of traps made by a Kaiu. He should be well. However, when he returns, I suggest that we request he refrain from his trap making for the time being."
Kojiro shrugged. "I'm sure he'll be at camp so you can vent your irritations at him there, Miyako-san."

"I don't mind a goblin dying, where ever it does so..."
The Hare looked uneasily between it and the Scorpions though, pondering as he stood slowly, eyes darting about while he thought, as they sometimes did. Shifting, he'd nod his head, and then start back with Kojiro.
"I don't like leaving him out alone, where he could be in danger. But we WILL be in danger if we keep following him across his traps. He's a bushi, and it's Crab lands- hopefully we'll see him soon."
At this point, it was a better bet just to go and make sure to see to Kitsuki-san and Shosuro-san's safety at camp, where they were best able.

Miyako shrugged, she had plenty to write about in her pillow book this night, and her irritation had worn off by this point. "He knows better than all of us, as he's pointed out multiple times. So we should just let him to it." And with that, she followed the rest back to camp.

Denbe, Miyako, and Kojiro return to camp, where Masuyo still was, uneaten. Eventually, Kagae would return, eaten uneaten but filthy. No more underhandedness from the GM until watches start, so I'll leave all you to your own devices, and when I get watches and perception-based rolls, then I'll continue. smile

Miyako decided that she'd stay up tonight, if not to keep watch, but at least to keep whoever company that did have watch. Something was really bothering her about all of it, but she really couldn't figure out exactly what it was even as she tried to piece it all together. Of course, it was completely out of character for her, so likely Kojiro would notice but she'd not bring it to his attention.

Kojiro would confer with the Rabbit and take the second watch. After that, he would go talk to the Kitsuki in the hopes of having his wounds attended to. When it was time for his watch, Kojiro would take it and keep Miyako company. He figured she was keeping a special eye on the Crab...and given what Kagae had said, the both of them up at the same time would worry Kagae greatly.

Since the Scorpion was wounded, and needed time, Denbe would stop only long enough to help Masuyo finish any last bit of cleaning and then pray, before he'd go to keep watch. He made sure to give especial thanks to Osano-wo. Then he would take the first watch.
When Kagae returned, Denbe didn't say much. He wasn't sure what to make of the Crab vanishing to put up traps. He'd just get to business, and let them sort their opinions out, until Kojiro was recovered enough to take his shift, and anyone else who intended to sit up for the night.

Thinking that she might as well air some of her concerns as well as to find out a bit more about the Hare, she struck up a conversation once they were all situated, keeping her fan fluttering as she tried to keep things light. "What exactly would have been the point of placing traps that far away from camp, Ujina-san. I understand precautions such as watches, but traps take a lot of time when you're only going to be there for a day. Could you explain the logic to me?"

Denbe frowned, thinking on that- and how to reply to it- as he stared out into the dark. Sitting with his legs crossed and fiddling with a bit stone he'd picked up from the ground, the Hare opened his mouth a few moments before he began speaking.
"I'm not sure," he said quietly, "the Ujina might not be spoken of the most kindly, but no one of the Hare, to my knowledge, puts any traps to use. I can suppose it might be of use in that we will come back this way- or to thin out the goblins in Crab lands in general. But you would have to ask him, to be fully honest."
He fiddled with the rock a few moments more- moving as if to toss it before thinking better of that.
"I would have thought creating a perimeter might have been of more use, myself. But he is the Kaiu, not I." His brows stayed knitted though, now feeling as though he was missing a piece of the puzzle, since Miyako had brought the question to his mind. A shame their Kitsuki was not the other one, then she might have helped him puzzle out- no, wait.
Wazuka probably would have just gone to arrest him and accuse him of consorting with the goblins or something. Nevermind.
"...is that what is keeping you up, Shosuro-san?"

She laughed, "Am I so obvious then, Ujina-san." the tip of her fan brushing across his hand lightly, her voice lowering so that it was just the two of them. "Isn't it just a bit odd for a Scorpion courtier to be asked to join a group of bushi that is on a mission that is a favor to some magistrates only to have the group seemingly at odds with one another?" A small delicate little frown crossed her lips. "It's almost as if ...no, I'm sure the mission is more than that..." , her hesitance almost defiant as if to deny an unimaginable possibility. Her head bowed, she glanced up at Denbe , her jade green eyes shining, as if for hope she was wrong. When next she spoke, it was carefully, as if fear tainted her words.
"He came at the very end of the bog hag's attack that no one else knew about....then accused Kojiro and I of some unknown deceit, and then was gone when a cadre of goblins attacked. It is...perplexing, is it not?"

Try as she might, Masuyo could not think of any quick-and-dirty methods of shrine purification. At least none that her dwindling supplies and mobile companions could accommodate. But at the same time Osano-Wo had already gotten his vengeance on the filthy things thanks to them, so as long as she cleaned it out as best she was able (making ample use of her TWIG, which she decided to rename) she figured the spirits would understand. For the sake of her own conscience, in light of her Togashi mentors, she spent a good deal of time praying; making sure to thank the fortune for his intervention and promise to tell the next priest she saw of this place's condition. Stopping only when the Hare returned to offer his own prayers.
When they returned to camp, she made sure to perform some purification rituals on herself before even remotely considering tending to the scorpion (after making sure it wasn't life-threatening, of course). She may have been a bit awkward with her treatments, but she knew enough not to touch a patient with goblin poo. She was also kind enough (this time) to offer treating him in the privacy of his tent, consider the location of the wound. She may not have held Rokugan's aversion to exposed skin, or even most of society's embarrassment for "indecency", but she still understood a patient's desire to maintain dignity even while grievously wounded.

Denbe wasn't sure if he should politely reassure her she was not so obvious... though he wasn't sure if that was just polite response to the joking self-demeaning, or if it was for her pride as a Scorpion. After a moment though, he was instead very unsure of how to respond to her next question, moving his hand and frowning somewhat awkwardly. Miyako might have been even younger than the Hare, but she seemed quite capable of making him squirm and color a bit.
The Hare stared out at the darkness, shifting uncomfortably, and thinking on all of that, his face setting sternly- or, mostly. His brow was knit as though he was thinking far harder on that than it was likely appropriate for him to be. And the truth was, he was. After all, she was right on all accounts.
"Three magistrates hand picked each of us. I'm certain we can trust in their judgement, Shosuro-san..." He slowly glanced back at the camp- toward Kagae's tent.
The words had a dangerous suggestion. And he was certain that was not the case. One thing was true, however. As much trust as Denbe might have had in the magistrates, and the loyalty of his companions all to the empire, something about her words was unsettling him.

When the 'brave' bushi was still complaining after the first dose, she tried her hand at a second. A treatment that was almost magical in its effectiveness.

Kojiro flushed pure red as the shugenja tended to him. The Scorpion hoped he would never get wounded in such a way again. "I really must thank you, Kitsuki-san. You've helped me out a lot today. "
The Bayushi looked as if he had to swallow some of the goblin's poo. It was rare for a Scorpion to be in debt to a Dragon so ...but there he was. It could be worse. It could be Wazuka that he owed.
