Rain Yupa Talking to someone on AIM, I came up with this: Samurai with Doubt: Kyujutsu (4), Unlucky (3), Hotei's Curse (3), and Gullible (3) disadvantages, and the Great Potential: Kyujutsu (8.) advantage. Hotei's Curse [Creatures of Rokugan] states that if you miss by 5 or more, a disastrous consequence happens. Would you let this Samurai (who, consequently, has the cruelist Sensei ever) travel with you? Why or why not? Maybe. Depends on WHY he wants to travel with us. If what he wants to do is very honorable, or mayhaps he wants to get rid of his horrible curses, then sure. Otherwise, no.

Kyumi... probably would. Unless someone else was traveling with her and could convince her otherwise, she'd probably let him travel with. She'd either trust that he's exaggerating his bad luck (and not check what his background is) OR see if there wasn't something she could attempt to do to help combat his troubles.
There would be a slight chance that Omi, her attendant, might be able to keep Kyumi from letting him come with, but... She'd have to be present when plans were being made and convince her then and there. If Kyumi's already agreed to let him come, no matter what Omi says, it's going to be hard to convince her to go back on her word.

Plus enough ranks in Medicine that, providing Omi hasn't been killed by the attack already, that Kyumi would hopefully be able to save her. There will be Hell to pay if Omi did end up being killed- accident or not. Besides, Kyumi's gullible and has her own issues, so her first thought probably isn't going to be "What if he accidentally ends up attacking us?". If it was, she would have gone to the tournament alone rather than with her babysitter.
