Ok, multi-theories here...
1. Perhaps we've underestimated the importance off the Black Rock. Maybe the Hostiles really are the decendants of it's crew? Or, with non-aging Richard, the real crew? They do go for the grubby pirate look. Also, it's almost confirmed that Ben was born in 1963. See here (warning: spoiler site)--> http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2007/05/ben-was-born-in-1963-plus-behind-scenes.html Thus, Richard being the same actor in the flashback could not have been some random accident...
2. Indeed, Jacob was on screen for like a nanosecond. But, is it me, or does the screencap of him look like Locke in a wig? Atleast, it really looks like a wig.

Seraphor tbs.hellogoodbye I'm extremely confident that Jacob is not dead and "brought back". Then why is he invisible, and 'living' in a rotting shack? Why did Locke need to be/do something on a psychological/spiritual level in order to hear/see him? Why would they be terrified of an invisible hermit?
He's not invisible to everyone though. We know that he is real, because we heard him and saw him for a flash. So if Ben wasn't lying about him being real, why would Ben pretend to see him, knowing that Locke couldn't see him and wouldn't belive that he's there?
tbs.hellogoodbye How...Did you get that picture of Jacob? I did NOT see him at all, and we rewinded it. . . Confused! That picture was from Wikipedia, but I saw him for just a flash when I watched it on TV.
Black Rock is probably important if we keep going back to it.
