I agree. I'm an all-purpose percussionist. Yes, I "drum", but I also play mallets, cymbals, and auxilliary (or however you spell that word) percussion. I also play drum set.

i agree, the term drummer is used almost as a bad thing at my school, but its like come on man i play cymbals(i hate cymbals) and chimes and mallet instruments too. lets see the other sections multi-tas at playing instruments.

Yeah mallets arent drums but unfortunately most people are idiots.

-sighs- same here. i play the xylophone, NOT the one with colors and like only 5 something keys, the cool, complicated one.
but i get labeled as a drummer.
i never played any of the other drums because its only a bunch of idiots who play drums-at my school, no offense to you good drummers out there- they cant play right to save there lives.
but,people are stupid sometimes, i just ignore it, and tell them that if they try to break the xylophone in front of me, i wont hesitate to send a mallet crashing down on there heads.and if there stupid enough to try, i do.
...violent? nah, im actually stuck in a grade behind me, because i should have signed up last year with my freinds, so im stuck in a class with a bunch of imbeclies...they actually BANG on it and try to play stupid little songs like 'mary had a little lamb' and other garbage in front of me. i just got fed up with it cause i was getting in trouble!!
-pats on back- it gets annoying though...you just get used to it ^-^
you know, im the ONLY person who plays any mallets in the whole school??

and i just got accepted to expert wind ensemble in the highschool as a freshmen...!!!

for the longest time, I thought I wanted to be a snare drummer because i thought being a DRUMMER would be the coolest thing. now, i'm in love in mallet instruments and i don't think of myself as a drummer, but as a percussionist. percussion sounds so much more skilled than just a drummer, and frankly, the drummers on our line can't even read music. they just copy what their section leader tells them to do. PERCUSSION ROCKS! blaugh

I prefer the term Percussionist as, well... I play every percussive instrument we have at school... I even have my own slide whistle!
I play Quints (or Marching Toms) in Marching Band and Indoor Drumline, and EVERYTHING ELSE in concert season... and Viola... and ocarina.... and kinda-sorta clarinet and trumpet...
Yeah, well, percussion rocks!!!

not all shadows are cast by light...
I hate being called a drummer (no offence to anyone with that) I can play drums, according to some people very well... so yeah, but I don't just play drums, I play mallets, and timpani and all kinds of stuff, but I'm always referred to as the drummer, but I'm a percussionist... so I don't really like that >.<
...some are cast by darkness.

Well, personally, I believe that you can choose, Like me, I prefer being called a drummer, because I play the snare in marching band. But then again, I also like being called a percussionist seeing as it's my section over all. But please, don't forget that drums are a part of the percussion section, so don't forget that, because then I'll be sad TT.TT
