maji (de)?! = serious, for real, no s**t
shortened from majime the standard word for serious
mostly used by young people to much of the despise of the elders
when in a group with elders the polite word would be honto ni (=really).
~ time and time again i was corrected by teachers. they really didnt like me saying maji de to something i thought wasnt true/coulndt believe.
Sensei: Koza-chan we are having curry rice for lunch. (i love this)
Me: MAJI DE~~~~?!?! whee
Sensei: scream eehhhh Sore dame yo! scream Honto ni no kotaba ii desu. maji de DAME da!
( scream Whoa~ dont say that. that is BAD! The phrase honto ni is okay; saying 'maji de' is bad!)
