You're right. I don't think they actually ever really kiss. The main couples, I mean. But then again, I haven't read that far in any of them.

Can't think of any. I may have said this before elsewhere, but CLAMP has a lovely sadistic side. They just love to torture the poor fangirls. And fanboys.

I COMPLETELY agree with that. Because EVERY time the couple getssoveryclose that you can hardly stand it, and NOTHING happens, you sit in your chair, shaking the daylights out of your manga (or television) screaming, "WHY!? WHY?! THEY WERE SO CLOSE! TELL ME WHYY!! CURSE YOU, CLAMP!!" And then CLAMP gets their giggles from watching their fans scream and flail, throwing marvelous fits over the failure of lip contact. I think it amps their egos and boosts their popularity.

Whatever works I suppose. It's kept me a devoted fan for years. And I've come to kind of like it. However, I still have fangasm temper trantrums almost every time it happens. Grahhh.
