Heh, I've been buying anime for ten years, my man's been buying for twelve, so our collections combined become... VOLTRON! Or, at least, a list faaaaaaar too long for someone of my limited patience to type out. Doressa, if you have a high speed connection, you could always download anime from a p2p program. There are several Bittorrent sites out there just for anime. http://www.animesuki.com/ would be the biggest, I think. And Pirate Dirge... You win, for mentioning Dragon Half! I know, and I didin't really enjoy it, not sure whether I should persevere or just give up and decide anime isn't for me.

Well, I'd say you can't really tell if anime isn't for you by just watching one series. There are tons of animes that I can't stand. sweatdrop I give every new series four episodes in which to catch and hold my attention. If it can't do it, then I quit watching, no matter how many other people out there rant and rave about how good it is.

Oooh someone else was a Weiss Kreuz fan?
Weiss is perhaps my favorite, it's only 24 episodes in the original (gluhen is another story) so you can watch it without losing too much time. It makes you cry, laugh, and smile. I really like the character development, nudity and language and pretty minimal. I advise seeing the subbed and not the dubbed though, the Japanese voice actors are great and the voice actor for Aya/Ran is the creative head behind the series.
I started off with Sailor Moon, so there is a soft spot in my heart for it. I always loved Sailor Saturn and the outter senshi best. It has one of the best gay love stories in it (though in the American version it's sort of awkwardly covered up)
Inu Yasha is really good if you see it from the beginning (made a lot more sense that way)
Cowboy Bebop is Excellent, but it is a bitter sweet sort of feeling, Weiss didn't bother me as much because the sorrow came with growth, in Bebop, well it's one long blues ballad.
Outlaw Star is pretty decent, it has a gorgeous ending, though it's more riske if you get the non-cartoon-network version.
Those are the series I am most familiar with though I've seen a handful of others.

I am sure since you are so nice in this guild if you got a po box or a work address i am sure alot of us could send you anime that we could just bunr on a cd for you in the days before bittorrent that is the way we had to do it lol also if your 1st anime is Lain.... and you are not sure if anime is for you I completly understand. When i saw Lain i thought the same thing and i had been watching anime for 10 years already, but it is ok i recovered Lain is kind odd oh also Filetopia.org is a nicce place to get some anime

I live in Australia, so I wouldn't like to ask people to pay postage all that way, but I might start downloading some, I think that could be the best plan for now!! xd xd

I like Anime quite a bit had have watched it since the sixties.But I have more Manga actually. My sons are both inot it quite a bit too and I've been exposed to a wide cross section of it.
My first was the original version of Speed Racer. I loved that show and would race home from Jr High( everybody calls it Middle school now stressed ) to see it but I had the hots or Racer X rofl
