Between the humming, start-and-stop conversations, and constant moving it was only a matter of before Cloud had to stop for a break. He heaved a great big sigh as he plopped himself down, conveniently by yet another egg, and gently laid the other three onto the ground beside him. "I think we're making good progress," he announced to the team as he wiggled himself a little comfortable nest in the grass. He wasn't good at judging distance, buuuut he could still see the Chansey at the port, though she was more of an indistinct pink blob at this point. Cloud rocked himself back until he was laying on his back—the issue of getting himself back up was a problem for future Cloud—and staring up at the sky. "You guys ever wish you could fly?" he asked dreamily.

"I think about flying a lot." He continued, eyes following his namesake as they moved through the sky. "It just seems so..." Cloud let himself wander off as the emotions and thoughts he associated with the freedom of flight filled him to his brim; the Togepi sighed gently, "Absolutely amazing." That seemed like a good way to summarize it. Cloud wiggled himself within the grass again, excited this time. "I think that's why Huebert—he's my very best trainer, the best trainer probably—named me Cloud– oh! My name's Cloud by the way." He spoke in one, long breath from which afterward he refilled his lungs and then fell silent.

Cloud streeeetched his limbs out in the warm sun, yawned, then smacked his lips a few times. Now that he'd mentioned Huebert he couldn't help but wonder what his little trainer was up to. Probably something cool! Or, maybe he was still sleeping. He'd been doing that a lot lately, actually. Cloud's eyes fell dangerously low for a few seconds before they flew open to take in a passing cloud that looked a lot like a smiley face. He hummed before morphing his face to match it although his had an extra oomph to it. "We'll get going soon," Cloud promised, in between a yawn, then rocked himself from side to side, slowly. He wasn't going to get up just yet, but it would probably be best to start building up a momentum to do it.

Cheri blinked several times as she finally came to form, the teleportation process complete. Bright red eyes scanned the landscape of the island and giant egg-shaped blobs ambled about tending to the immobile egg-shaped blobs that dotted the horizon.
Her task was simple. Help raise eggs. At least that was what the odd skunk-haired man who Lafayette called Juliean reiterated between a diatribe rant on the failings of his minion (the Aussie was supposed to send her to the island directly, not to him first, apparently). The man would be in trouble for it later, but that wasn’t Cheri’s problem.
She toddled over to the nearest pile of eggs and haphazardly began to pick through them. One of the caretakers, a Chansey like so many, caught sight of her and quickly rushed over in a panic. "Oh dear, hello! Please don’t toss the eggs like that, they’re delicate." The Espurr stopped, an egg of actual interest clutched between her paws as her gaze shifted to the Chansey who visibly recoiled at the sight.

Or going to anyways. A select few of course; Cheri liked eggs, but Juliean had mentioned off-cuff a few interesting things about the project she was going on. Something about special things hatching from them.
Cheri liked special things and that’s what she wanted. The Chansey forced a smile, whole body bobbing as she nodded in understanding. "Oh well that’s wonderful! We do need the he- EEE!" The Chansey dove in an absolute panic for the egg that the Espurr had just chucked over her shoulder like a piece of rubbish in favor of the egg nestled just behind it. If the red flags hadn’t been raised now, the alarm sirens were surely blazing.
That didn’t stop Cheri though. She hoisted a second egg up, examined it, and set it next to the first. She looked at the frazzled caretaker. "I need a basket. I want to take care of a lot of eggs."

Scratch that. There was an abundance (okay maybe that was a stretch, there were like two or three maybe) of little wagons that she could abscond with for her purposes. She just needed to clean one out. She rolled the two eggs she’d decided to take under her care towards the nearest of these wagons, ready to begin the clear-out process when the Chansey snatched her up and away. How rude.
"Please stop, what are you-"
"I need a wagon. And more eggs please." Cheri stated matter-of-factly. Her unblinking stare never wavered and the Chansey couldn’t help but feel that in some way that if she failed to comply with this request, there would be grave consequences.
"Yes well… I understand and… and your help is appreciated! I just... I’ll get you one that’s already empty. Can you wait here a moment?" The egg pokemon set the Espurr down, receiving an answer of silence and persistent stare. Quickly the Chansey shuffled off to fetch a small wagon, returning just as Cheri was picking up yet another egg. Her breath hitched in her throat followed by a sigh of relief as the Espurr set it next to her growing collection. "Here you go. Did you want to know about the is-"
"No thank you. I can take care of eggs on my own." She picked up the eggs and put them in the wagon, grabbing the handle and beginning off into the distance to find other choice specimens. The Chansey watched as she left, a sense of dread coursing through her body.
With wagon in tow jostling eggs every which way, much to the chagrin of the unhatched occupants, Cheri made her way out to the landscape ahead. There were eggs scattered everywhere it seemed and it was going to take some serious work to find the best of the special prizes.
She stopped at another cluster, staring at the three eggs composing it. Two were average in size with spotted patterns. She didn’t recognize them and in fact, found them incredibly unextraordinary. The last one was smaller than the rest and Cheri picked it up to hold to the sun. There was no seeing what was inside with the shell so thick. So, she gave it a shake.
"I think you’re a special egg. I like special eggs, I’ll help you hatch and you can be special." If it made it that far. Which it would, Cheri knew a thing or two (in her mind) about taking care of things. She’d managed Lafayette’s affairs at times, and he was a human. If she could tend a human, she could tend an inanimate object that would someday become animate. She placed it in the wagon with the rest of her collection, staring at each.
And so, the search for a marking implement began. Cheri considered returning to the round one known as Chansey and requesting a marker or pen. But being a psychic, she was aware of the pokemon’s weariness of her and her mannerisms. Apparently, her rough handling of the eggs so far had unnerved the round one. Silly Chansey.
If there was anything Cheri had observed and learned from her trainer (which was very little, the man wasn’t that bright) it was that there was value in being rough. It made things stronger and sturdier.
Sort’ve. And if she broke any of these eggs? Well, she was certain there was a way to glue them back together. That would of course require glue or tape, which once again brought to head the fact that the Chansey would be unlikely to assist her. Shameful.
As her thoughts wandered, she stopped at another egg. This one was alone as though it’d been tossed unceremoniously from whatever nest it’d previously occupied. A loner, abandoned and left to fend for itself in this expansive field of lush grass and bright sunshine. Tragic.
"I like you. You can come with me." She said, scooping it up and putting it in her wagon. She was amassing an amazing collection into her care.
The wagon was full. Maybe, Cheri could squeeze in another egg if she really forced it. A small perhaps? The saying ‘big things come in small packages’ sprang to mind as an affirmation to this train of thought. After all, they were simply eggs and there was some form of comradery to be had snuggled close together with one another.
She certainly wasn’t going to be able to sit on them all. So, they’d have to make do. The sun was big in the sky too so less work on her part. So one more egg. And she thought she spotted one. A little black egg with blue dotting and white tops. It was very interesting and special.
And also already broken. Cheri toddled closer to where Cloud and his collection rested, just staring at the other pokemon. No one had mentioned stumbling across eggs already in the process of hatching, which clearly was the case here. Was it stuck? It looked stuck.
"Are you stuck in your shell? Do you need help hatching? You look stuck." She inquired of Cloud, setting the handle of her wagon down behind her. "I’m helping hatch eggs, I can help you hatch. You seem special."

Cloud was kinda-sorta-awake with his eyelids pulled halfway over his eyes, so he didn't notice the bright pink pokemon until she called out to him. "Hmm?" Was he stuck in his shell? What a weird question! But– oooh, she thought he was an egg! Okay, that made sense. Cloud giggled as he wiggled his arms and legs out then tried, failed, and tried again to push himself up; it was hard.
"I don't—oomph!—need help hatching! I've already hatched."
With one last twist and a little psychic push, the Togepi popped up onto his feet. "I'm Cloud! A Togepi!" Now that he was right side up he could see that this pokemon was— "You're very pretty," he blurted out, with a few approving nods. "And you have a lot of eggs, maybe even as much as me!"

After his introduction was made, and now that he was officially awake, Cloud took the time to do an egg-count head-count. 1...2..3... huh! There were five eggs in total, but he'd only picked up four; this last one was a hitchhiker! Cloud bobbed his head with high approval that this unexpected guest chose his merry band to join. And, he'd be the last! At least until a few of them hatched.
As fun as it was to let unhatched pokemon experience the joys of flying, Cloud could tell: he'd get a headache if he tried adding any more into the group. Now that his eggs were counted for, he could afford to look at the pink pokemon's eggs. They were all tucked away in a wagon, which was a pretty smart way to transport your eggs! It was probably a lot easier to hold them all in the same place, and you definitely always knew where they were!

Cheri’s gaze never deviated from Cloud, even as he fumbled his way back to his feet. He didn’t need help hatching? Was he sure, it looked very much like he was still stuck in a shell to her.
"But you are still wearing a shell." She inquired, clearly missing the exclamation that he was a Togepi and thus this was normal for his form. She did perk up at the introduction though a paw pressing over her mouth in thought. "Thank you." Cloud, Cloud, Cloud. This name seemed familiar. He seemed familiar. "Yes, I am helping hatch them. I was told they could hatch and be very special." She peered at his collection. "Are you helping to hatch them? Are yours special?"
Another pause and another question. "Do you like donuts, Cloud?"

☆ ☆【 Feeling the shivering egg slowly starting to settle down a bit more, Marzipan gently held an arm around it as she turned her gaze back towards their surroundings. Her apprehensiveness about this strange place was slowly starting to wane the more she took time to just take in everything, allowing herself to briefly close her eyes and just take in the environment through her other senses. Her large, keen ears could pick up the sounds of distant footsteps and murmurings of chatter, the rustle of the wind in the leaves around them, and the distant rush of the waves upon the coast… The light, cool breeze that ruffled her fur brought with it the smell of salt and wet sand from the sea. It reminded her a lot of Hulbury back home in Galar, where the twins’ grandmother lived. A relatively quiet place, not too crowded at all for the most part, except for some occasions when trainers would flock into town to take on the local gym. Home… The more she thought about it, the more the Lopunny couldn’t help but idly wonder how long it might be until they might be able to return. 】☆ ☆

”I am!” Cloud agreed with the very observant, very pink pokemon. “But when I evolve I won’t have my shell anymore! I guess I still have it now for… protection?” That was his best guess anyway. Because, why did any pokemon have anything? He gave one last look at the pokemon’s wagon with a hint of envy before he returned his attention to her. “Oooh, special? What’s gonna make them special?” Even before the question was out of his mouth Cloud’s fervent mind was providing him with answers. Were the pokemon going to come out shiny like him? Maybe extra large or super small? How could you even tell when an egg was special?
This second question stuck in his mind and wouldn’t budge, so he’d need to ask the expert! The expert in this case was, obviously, the pink pokemon. “I am helping them hatch!” Cloud patted the top of one of the eggs carefully and proudly, as if it were his very own. “I dunno if they’ll be special, but they’re definitely gonna be AWESOME! I can already tell.” So… maybe that was his answer right there? She knew her eggs were special just like he knew his were awesome.
With his mind on all things eggs, Cloud was a bit confused on why the pink pokemon would ask him about doughnuts; did she have doughnuts and wanted to share? “I love them!” he answered enthusiastically, despite not knowing where this line of questioning was going. “I really like that you can eat them and wear them— though not everyone does, for some reason.”

☆ ☆【 Speaking of home… Marzipan’s mind couldn’t help but wander back to Zane, wondering how he’s been holding up after she’d left to be transported to the island. Hopefully he was doing well enough so far, especially considering the rather strange predicament they had somehow gotten themselves in. She recalled the utter shock and confusion she’d felt when they’d woken up in New Bark, so far from home and discovering that their trainer having suddenly been turned from a grown adult man into a 13 year old boy. How could this have possibly happened? Who could’ve done this? Why had her trainer been the target of whatever the hell that was, and what had he done to deserve it? It was just so… confusingly strange. She couldn’t think of anyone or anything who would want to intentionally harm Zane in any way, shape, or form that she knew of, especially considering how generally well-liked he was by pretty much everyone back in their hometown. Which really just added on more to the question of what the motive could’ve been for something like that, and if they truly meant some kind of ill intent… Well, turning her trainer into a young child was admittedly an extremely roundabout way of doing so. Unless… 】☆ ☆
