Cher nods, waiting for the perfect moment to unleash her weapon. As soon as she spies Peach's poofy pink dress, she lets the Red Shell fly. Or rather, Yoshi does. "I can understand that. I live on the outskirts, though. It's more private, and it suits me."
Well, it suits her aversion to being found, anyway. While she waits to see if the Shell has done its job, Yoshi picks up another coin, reaching the limit of his speed. "Well, we are special cops, you could say. Each of us has a special something that sets us apart from your average Barton Knight. My department is an amalgamation of other departments. Missing Persons, Homicide, and Charmspeak, just to name a few."

"How do they find candidates?" Peach tumbled off the track into the dirt, Minty fumbled with the joystick waiting for the kart to right itself. Yoshi and several of the AIs passed her as she maneuvered back onto the track.

"You apply for boot camp first. There's usually advertisements online and in the newspaper. If you complete it to The Head's satisfaction, you're assigned to one of the senior member's departments based on your particular talent." Cher allows herself a rare upward tilt of the lips as Yoshi passes Peach. Maybe she'll even finish in the top five now.
"What's your favorite color?" It's the most basic question, but her mind is more on the game than what she really wants to ask.

"What made you want to apply?" Minty's eyes sparkled with mischief as threw a banana peel to take out Mario who had been hot on Yoshi's tail, "I don't have a favorite color. They're all good."

Cher is silent for so long, it seems as though she's going to ignore the question. It's not until Yoshi bypasses the now flailing Mario and makes it to the next lap that she finally answers Minty's question.
"Because I had nothing else. I wanted to help others, and that seemed the best way for me to accomplish that." She nods, and only after their current race ends does she ask another question. "I tend to lean more towards monochromatic schemes myself. Do you have a favorite song, or genre of music?" Yoshi finishes in sixth place. Oh well, better luck next race.
(Because they can't race forever, as fun as that would be.)

"Yes, I have something to be proud of now. It's a thankless job, but someone has to do it." Minty has no idea how right she is, but Cher is too nice to get into all the gritty details right then.
She takes the opportunity between races to pop her knuckles and shed her dark coat, draping it on the back of the couch next to her. The new uniform is a bit bulkier, but she'll get used to it. "That's a good way of putting it. I like songs that soothe me after a long shift. Favorite season?"

Thank goodness Minty's attention is focused elsewhere, or the flicker of emotion that passes through her eyes at the praise would have given her true feelings away. She gets herself together quickly, though. "Thank you," Cher murmurs after another long moment of silence.
She readies herself as the next race begins. "Yes, cooling and heating coils make things a lot easier. No matter the weather, I can remain comfortable."
(Cher always does her best. Minty does whatever Minty wants.)

(Minty probably should not do whatever she wants. But I love my flawed little blonde x3 Cher is doing really well though <3)

"Not really. There is strength training involved to be able to wear it, though. It's also completely bulletproof." Cher tilts her head, a lock of mist blue hair tumbling over her shoulder with the movement, but she ignores it in favor of hitting the gas as soon as the light turns.
"I suppose I am physically stronger than I used to be. Other than video games, what do you like to do in your spare time?"
(Minty is great. She's getting Cher to open up without forcing her. It's harder than it looks.)

It's actually kinda nice to just kick back and play games with you for awhile." "I forgot you used to do that. It must have been very stressful." Cher did something to that effect a few times, but it's been a few years since she was able to. Speaking of spinning out, Mario seems to have her number. Poor Yoshi is having a hell of a time trying to get out from under the plumber's tire treads.
"It is.. nice." It's been awhile since she just relaxed like this with a friend. It's another few minutes before she answers. "Mostly I just sleep. My shifts can range anywhere from five to ten hours a day depending on the level of crime. Or I read, maybe do a bit of gardening on Sundays. That sort of thing."
(Well, it's certainly coming in handy.)

"You're right," Cher murmurs, eyelids dropping with the weight of memories best left unsaid. Yoshi finally pulls ahead into first place, but she knows it won't last.
It's another lap before she speaks again. "Flowers mostly. My brother brings me seedlings whenever he gets back from a long journey, so there are plenty of foreign flowers lining my garden." Yoshi swerves to avoid a banana peel, and the move costs her first place. She swears softly under her breath before continuing. "There's also the occasional fruits and vegetables. It's cheaper than buying in bulk these days."
