So cool that you understand engines that way, and getting paid to do what you enjoy is double cool! So I understand the island name of Maui, but don't remember enough Hawaiian from my time there years ago to understand "no ka oi." I do remember the high cost of living there, and the beautiful climate and land and most of all people there!

No is a quantifying suffix which can be roughly translated to "indeed". Thus no ka oi when appended to a noun is most literally translated as "is surely the best".

I remember an "Auntie" (I don't remember the Hawaiian term any more) used to come in and teach my third grade students Hawaiian language and culture once every week or two - delightful!
