So cool that you understand engines that way, and getting paid to do what you enjoy is double cool!

maui boy no ka oi
So I understand the island name of Maui, but don't remember enough Hawaiian from my time there years ago to understand "no ka oi." I do remember the high cost of living there, and the beautiful climate and land and most of all people there!

Oi is literally best. Ka is a qualifier distinguishing a singular subject. No is a quantifying suffix which can be roughly translated to "indeed". Thus no ka oi when appended to a noun is most literally translated as "is surely the best".

Awesome! And so indeed you are! Do you speak Hawaiian fluently? I remember an "Auntie" (I don't remember the Hawaiian term any more) used to come in and teach my third grade students Hawaiian language and culture once every week or two - delightful!

Not fluently. Haven't had anyone around to practice with. The thing I have most difficulty with is vocabulary. Sentence structure and grammar I have down pretty well. I just don't know all the words in the dictionary yet.

LOL! I consider myself fluent in English, but I hardly know EVERY word in the dictionary! rofl
