Well, I actually have an idea of how I could do the comms. My guys is a sniper/scout. Give him a mech with a long range rifle, or even artillery and then communication equipment and a satellite uplink and we're good to go. Heck, even let him use the satellite as an artillery targeting from his mech, even better.

The downside to that is that you won't be able to have constant updates with it if you are in combat because you will have to be paying attention to the combat scenario in front of you. All I have to say is that if you really want to try that, I will let you.

I'm getting the general impression that the comms specialist will not be actually piloting a mecha - the comms character will be sitting behind the lines, largely not doing much of anything "actiony" during the fight scenes. That sounds... like an interesting take on it. I've gone ahead and just whipped something up because I felt like it. She'd probably make a pretty good comms officer. No background/description/etc just yet, but the mechanics are pretty hashed out, I think.

You are very much correct. The comm specialist will be staying back at the base, but they must still be at the top of their game. One misjudgement where you need the air strike and you could kill your friends. Or one second too long of waiting and your friends could die by a shortage of supplies. I ran this adventure in RL and two people were critically wounded before the comm specialist goofed. It is a very important role.

It may be important, but it certainly doesn't seem as glamorous or as fun as the mecha jockey roles. Most people want to be in the thick of it, participating, rather than sitting at home. I guess it's like playing the wizard who flies, is invisible, and just throws out the occasional fireball, rather than the fighter. I'll give it a shot, all the same.

Edit: Hopefully I'll at least be able to interact with the other players. Them being out on the field and me being back at base sort of feels like that wouldn't happen much.

I was building Tress to get into the Field Scientist advanced class. Not much real benefit to doing so in this regard, but we'll see how it plays out.

You will get lots of character interaction. ESPECIALLY in between missions. Also, the characters are not always in mechs. Another thing, whenever air support is not allowed, the comm specialist (you since you took up the job) will get the option to join the team in the field.

Looks like you guys could use a medic. Let's see if I have the time to whip something up....

Well, I actually managed to get this put together! Yay! Anyway, here is Gavin Love, EMT.

I'll add a picture of him when I get the chance.

i have a question, since the catgirl pick brought it up. Are the Neko just slightly cat-like, with ears an an tail or are they full on covered in fun, head like a cats, legs that bend backwards, etc?

reason i ask, is that the first one can pass for human by hiding their tail, and wearing a hat...
PostPosted: Sun May 01, 2011 4:15 pm
According to the description in the "neko" section, they're ears and tail humans. I assumed that that was what we were going for, which would help explain how humans managed to impersonate them and help fan the war.

Also, I updated my stats a bit - I ditched the Dedicated Hero and just went with Smart Hero, since it gave me more skill points and the same bonus to the skills I was getting bonuses to.

As he said, they look just like humans other than the fact that they have the ears and tails. As well as other cat-like abilities (not to be mistaken for features) like better eye sight and reflexes.

[Okay. With 5 people, I believe we can at least get started. So then, here we go]

Current Setting: Everyone is within a large bus moving down a small road that twists and turns throughout the mountain range behind Almadar. The view through the windows of the bus show the wide and exspansive mountain ranges off and into the horizon. All of them covered from top to bottom in the white layers of snow that almost seem to sparkle in the sunlight. Up in these ranges, even during the summer, it is usually cold enough that the snow can remain and will not melt.

Quick Character Notice: All characters are currently wearing Artic Camo colored uniform and an outer layered coat that also retains the Artic Camo. No one knows exactly why they are here or on this bus, they were just gathered together and then given the uniform to put on.

Up at the front of the bus sits a man who appears to be around the age of thirty. He is smoking a cigarette and sitting side-ways in his seat so that he can see the few people behind him. He lets out a few puffs of smoke and then looks over the group again. This is the tenth time he has done this but everytime, he just returns to smoking his cigarette, except this time. "So then. How many of you actually know the current situation that our two nations are going through?" The bus driver laughs a few times as the man begins to talk to the people in the back of the car. Both the man and the driver are human and there seems to be a slight amount of distrust coming from the smoking man towards some of the group, but the driver seems carefree to everyone.

Gavin lounges in his seat, looking not quite trustfully at the mostly humans around him. He's spent most of his life surrounded by other Neko and is not quite sure what to make of this group. At the question he looks up, his green eyes narrowed.

"Well, anybody who hasn't been living in a box knows the basics," he says, a slight edge of sarcasm in his tone. "But I can't say I know much on the exact details."

{Added pic to Gavin's sheet, and a little bit of description....}

{Is it too late to still put in a character? I noticed when I was on the thread earlier that you needed a "team leader" type. I could probably put one of those together....

I'll go ahead and build one so I can be ready, but let me know....}

User ImageBridgitte was fidgeting in her seat, her legs twitching. Being in a vehicle and not actually driving it... it was driving her crazy. Especially a bus like this - such a piece of junk, but she'd at least be able to get more out of it than the current driver. Gah! She really wanted to be behind that wheel. What were the upper brass thinking? Sending her to the frigid mountains, when she should be running troop transports and strafing bikes! Her ears perked up when the officer started speaking. Was that a rhetorical question, or should she actually volunteer an answer? The damn neko started to respond, so at least she wouldn't be the only one out of line if she did, too...

"We've been at war for years, and now it turns out we've been fighting the wrong folks. And we're getting our asses kicked right now. That's pretty much the current situation, yeah?"
