Aesa's first thought had actually been to assume that the little girl was the thief's own offspring - just another example of her closedmindedness she mentally berated herself. As she took her seat at the table she stared down at the girl, matching her uncharistically serious expression with one of her own. Even though her brother chastised her for interrogating her, she made sure to answer the child before responding to Ace's inquiry, "It is a pleasure to make your aquaintence as well Alex. And you have my deepest thanks for your help in my recovery. My name is Aesa Yüksek and I had to leave my home for a while because someone accused me of a crime I did not commit." Her tone was reflective of one she would use when speaking to an adult - Aesa enjoyed children though she had never been particularily good at playing with them. While she directed her response to Alex, her answer was for Ace's benefit as well. Especially the latter portion explaining that she was innocent. She did not know his thoughts on the matter but for some unknown reason it was important that she have his respect.

Looking up to her rescuer she took stock of his person, again mentally wincing at the bruise decorating his face. His hair was mussed as well but that only added to his charm in her opinion."Ace...an interesting choice of name. Something a maverick might give himself." There was no doubt in her mind that Ace was every inch a rogue and probably took great pains to let others know it as well. He certainly hadn't tried to hide the fact when she had captured him. Aesa was honest enough with herself to admit that she was facinated with him - though she couldn't quite understand why. Initially she had assumed it was her lack of exposure to his kind but the more she spoke with him the more she realized that it was something unique to him. And this new facet to his personality - the caring older brother - made her stop and have to re-think her opinion of him all over again.

Finally she let her direct gaze fall away to focus on the meal in front of her. Oh! Aesa was used to rather more delicate fare than the stew but there was just something...so...earthy about the taste that had her eating it up, barely able to keep her elbows off the table. "This is...delicious! I've never tasted anything so - well - rugged."

Once she had her fill she let out a contented sigh and sat up straight in her chair, letting her hands rest on her lap. It was good to feel well rested and full. A simple pleasure that she imagined both lowerling and mage alike had in common. Looking down to her robes she wrinkled her nose in distate at their disheveled state. She did not enjoy having to make a request so soon after he had saved her and nursed her back to health but again she was left with few options. "It pains me to beg another favor so soon on the heels of the last two you so graciously granted but do you have any clothing I might borrow. Leggings and a tunic are entirely acceptable - I do not require anything of fine material. And I will pay you as soon as I am able." The red hue that graced her cheeks were less embarassment than frustration - her pride was pricked at having been brought so low in so short a time. But while she could launder her robes, they would cause her to stand out immediately.

Ace stood quietly closing his eyes hearing Alex and Aesa exchange names and such. When she mentioned his name though he shrugged. "Ace is something my father called me, Prince Ace. Its weird here you'll quickly learn. Your queen and king rule over our lands, my king and queen rule over mine. If you want I'll explain it later for you," he shrugged unsure if she would get it or not. Everything here was different than it looked. You didn't know what it was like until you were in the system and lived it. Breathed it. Being a lower life was better than a mage in his mind. "Never been called a maverick though. A dog yes, a wolf yes, even a weasel, never a maverick. . ." he said with a shrug only to stop half way and let out an annoyed sigh. Damn field, he thought to himself. Sighing again, he looked to the heavens even though it was blocked by his roof. He looked back down at her hearing her just chowing down on the food like she was famished.

"Never heard that term either, but it makes sense. Never liked the higher tasting food though. Takes to long to cook and not enough flavor," he shrugged before he looked at Alex noticing her taking the bowls from Aesa, herself, and him to go clean. He raised an eyebrow at her since normally he did it, but what ever, if she wanted to, he'd let the child do it. He looked back at her upon her request for clean clothes and he nodded. "Alex'll take you somewhere you can bathe if you want. I don't need to be payed though for rescue or the clothes. I have robes you can use," he said quietly not waiting for her to answer before he walked towards the other end of the house pulling off his shirt and showing his tan, scar covered back, and little bit of bandage on his shoulder before he vanished into his room.

Once in his room, he undressed and pulled back on fresh dark colored clothes and his boots again leaving his shirt off as he looked for a robe for her. He had some some where, he knew he did. He hunted through his room, then the 'armory' finding a expensive blue one accented in silver. He was glad he'd found it since he had nothing to do with it and it was to good to let waste. He pulled on a shirt before he left his room again with the robe folded over his arm waiting to see if he would see Aesa or Alex waiting for him for the clothes.

Aesa did not have time to thank him properly as he left abruptly after offering to locate her some clothing. She would have said something to his departing back had she not been struck speechless by his scarred skin. One did not receive such lasting marks without there being significant force behind the blow and she shook her head once more - a strange creature this lowerling. She was mulling over his use of 'prince' - having been raised to believe non-mages were far more primative she did not think it was actually a title to denote royalty but probably more of an endearment from father to son. Perhaps it held some significance among thieves? This all passed through her mind as she rose to assist the child in cleaning up after themselves. "Thank you for the meal Alex. I sorely needed something to replenish my body. And thank you for taking me to bathe as well, I will be even more in your debt once I am clean."

Tidying up was a small chore as the meal had been filling but sparse. So while she waited, Aesa took the time to inspect her surroundings. There did not appear to be much in the way of a woman's gentle touch in the decorating scheme so she felt fairly confident that the two of them lived alone. She didn't know why that mattered either but there it was - trace amounts of satisfaction at the realization. "If you don't mind Alex, before we go I would like to speak to your brother about my future plans. I will let you get ready for the bathing house." She did not wish to dismiss the helpful girl rudely so she worded it so that the girl would hopefully not feel left out of the conversation.

Moving to Ace's room she was reaching for the knob as the door swung open inwardly. Blinking up at him she was at once both relived and disappointed that he had changed into a fresh shirt. Eyeing the fine cloth that hung over his arm she and raised an eyebrow at the intricate embroidering. "May I speak with you a moment before your sister returns?" Direct creature that she was she did not wait for a response and gently pushed him into the room, shutting the door behind her. "First of all you are clearly in pain so I am going to attempt to heal you further - brace yourself this is not going to be comfortable." Again she did not give him time to formulate a response (or more likely a protest) as she reached out and slid her hands along his shoulder. She closed her eyes and murmered soft words in a 'lilting tone. Again the feeling that would come over Ace would be fast and shocking in it's coldness. There were healers more skilled than herself who could make the progress a soft comforting experience - bully for them. She would not be able to repair all the damage done but she could ease his pain and expedite the process. Letting go she breathed out slowly, regaining her balance. As the spell was fairly basic it would not cause her the relapse of the same magnitude that her effotrs did the night before - it was however more than she should expect of her body before she had time to meditate and smooth out the remaining wrinkles in her psyche.

Opening her eyes she did not apologize for the brief discomfort as she knew sometimes it was necessary to hurt a bit before the true healing process could begin in earnest. She felt he was pragmatic enough to understand this as well. "I require your advice Ace. I will find and capture the true murderer of my Önemli. Before this can happen I will need to remain hidden from the prying eyes of the council. They have means beyond the mundane to try an accomplish this task but I am familliar with their tricks. I would ask you to tell me where it would be best for me to spend my time while in the Lowlands." Like many mages before her, other than a drop in prestiege and civilness she thought that the Lowlands were much the same as her compartiviely safer home. She was so wrong on that account but had no idea at the moment.

Even though they were simple chores, she was glad that Aera was helping her. As simple as they may be. She soon was done and she smiled to skip off when being dismissed. She'd been dismissed before and never questioned either party. After getting out of the house, she quickly made her way over to to the bath house to prepare it for her after lighting a few candles from it being so dark. She smiled and looked around getting water to warm up and such.

Ace picked his head up seeing her and then narrowed his eyes a little bit. He was about to make a comment before he was pushed back into the room taking a few quick steps to keep from falling down. "Doesn't seem like I have a choice," he muttered before looking at her slightly agressive when she suddenly put her hand along his shoulder. He growled about to fight back when a cold burning feeling hit him. He bit his lip hard holding his breath until she was done glad it was really quick. He rolled his shoulder gently finding it still sore, but not to bad to use like before.

Finally taking in air, he put the robe on the messy bed taking everything in outside quietly before a cruel smile spread on his face but it was one towards himself more odd enough as he realized she would have to stay with her. He looked at her quietly and shook his head laughing a little bit not a lot still. "If you don't wanna be robbed, tortured, imprisoned, or raped, honestly, your only safe place is here," he said completely serious. "Around here, mages don't belong. Your kind stays in your side of the land and we stay in ours. In the rare cases we cross, its not safe honestly. You have no where to turn but the people who want to arrest you or me. Honestly, I think you are better off here for a bit. You can dress like us all you ant, but we aren't blind. We know who was born here and who had fallen here." When he spoke it sounded dark evil, cruel. It sounded like he knew what he was talking about from experience even if he didn't fall as far as she did.

Aesa did not care for the cruelty of his smile - or the words that followed. She wasn't bullheaded enough to refute his reasoning as he was certainly more qualified in the seedy workings of the Lowerworld than herself. Her own pride which had taken quite a few knockings these past 24 hours was too tender to allow his casual dismissal of her abilities.

"I appreciate your gracious offer Master Thief" Ahhh she was back to using her nickname for him before she had learned his preferred alias. She had taken to 'Ace' easily and enjoyed the way it felt to address him as such but with her back perfectly straight and her eyes flinty it was clear she did not appreciate his tone. "But as you were not able to defend yourself from me what guarentee do I have you could protect me from those who would do me harm?" She knew it was low of her to make a comment such as that but she was feeling overly emotional at the moment. She was suspected for murder - her precious Önemli was lost to her and this man was all but calling her defenseless. Basically accusing her of not having the basic sense to not reveal herself as a mage in a land where they were thought of with hostile intent. If she hadn't been so overwraught she would have considered and most likely agreed with his sage advice - she also probably wouldn't have overlooked the dangerous glint that entered his expression.

"Nor are they!" he snapped back getting angry for her not believing him. "You wanna go out there and try your luck, fine. You'll be eaten alive in a few days! I'm not doubting your strengths, nor am I complementing them though. We aren't just roughes, mindless creatures your society has cut us out as. You are in for a rude awakening, Angel, wether you like it or not!" he said angrily but not in a mater of fact tone. The after math though was his face turning red realizing he called her Angel, but the anger simmered that down a little bit. He walked away a bit and put his forehead against the door quietly sighing closing his eyes before he looked at her and sat down on the floor.

"Just having brawn here gets you no where. In order to survive you must have both," he explained a lot calmer now, "Like you, we have an order here, we have a way of life. You are nothing here except food for the starving dogs of our life metaphorically and truthfully. That term I gave you before wasn't a endearment from my father, it was my birth right. You just don't belong here," he said becoming more stressed in the end as he ran his hand through his hair but stopped to rest his forehead in his palm. He closed his eyes thinking about how this was going to work. It was thrown so out of whack. He was right though, she didn't belong here, nor did she belong in a dungeon either. Unlike him, she was innocent and this needed to be cleared up before something bad happened. He pulled his blade out of his pants again finding it uncomfortable before he threw it in the wall into a target right in the middle without really looking. He'd done it so much it was like breathing now from any angle practically.

Aesa was prepared to verbally battle him as he snapped at her. Mentally she began building her arguement, preparing to decimate him with her words. All those angry plans were laid to waste however when he called her, 'Angel'. It was silly of her to be so quickly thrown off her path by such a nonsensical endearment, but there it was. Ace was clearly distraught by what he was saying and she felt remorse for having caused him such discomfort after he truly had been so kind to her.

Lowering herself to the ground, she crossed her legs and faced him. Placing a gentle hand on his knee she silently bid him to meet her gaze. She waited to speak until he complied, "I apologize for my rash words Ace - it was low of me to say those things. You are of course right, I am a babe in the wilderness here and am appreciate of your guidance in these matters. I do not think you are mindless creature - it was me who acted the beast. I hope you can forgive me my thoughtlessness." Aesa was always quick to realize her own flawsand take steps to remedy them. That included apologizing when she was at fault.

She was curious as to the meaning behind his title but knew this was not the optimal time to approach the question. She woud wait until they both were cleaned - fresh clothes and a clean body did wonders for one's mindset. She also wanted to give him time to come down from his deserving anger.

Ace sighed loudly before looking up at her and shook his head. "I would have forgiven you right away, you didn't have to ask for it," he said honestly and quietly. While she had to apologize, he didn't find it necisary when both parties were in the wrong. He knew he shouldn't have snapped but he couldn't help himself to. It was just so stressful for him after all of this. "I'm sure the bath house is ready for you to clean up in. The robe is on my bed and I'll clean up as well. I'll meet you back in the house," he said with a soft voice. He slowly stood up and opened the door sighing slightly before he left her.

He needed sleep, that's what he needed the most. He didn't need food, he didn't need to get out, and he didn't need something to do. He needed nothing to do. As he tried to focus on when he could finally get some sleep, Aesa came back into his mind. He sighed and rubbed his eyes leaving the house and going to a seperate one that he'd made for himself before Alex insisted in having her own 'girls bath house'. He walked out into the woods into the middle of no where before he found it. Gathering water from the stream, he heated the bath as he undressed and slipped into the still cold water and quickly cleaned the dirt and grime from his body.

~

At seeing Aesa, Alex's bored face lit up in a smile. It was obvious that the five year old quickly took to her. "Aesa!" she grinned, "What did you have to talk to Jack--Ace about?" She flushed at practicly saying her older brother's name when she knew she wasn't to. It was a bad idea she'd been told how he was wanted and they would come and take him away if she wasn't careful. At this she covered her mouth and glared at her as if it was her fault for her slip of the tongue.

Aesa waited a full minute after Ace had left to gather her thoughts. It was an excercise in futility. Her entire life and purpose had shifted so quickly that she knew a period of adjustment was required - unfortunately she did not have the time. Well what she didn't have in time she would make up for in luxury - and right now nothing seemed so lovely as a warm bath.

Gathering the robe she left the house with it bundled in her arms. She had a moment of confusion as she shut the door behind her since she was not sure where to go, but then there was Alex again ready to help. She smiled at the child when she greeted her and managed not to bat an eye at the small girl's slip of the tongue. Jack was he? Well le them have their secret - his name would not change who he was. Aesa had struggled with how to speak with children in her teens as she had forgotten what it was like to be so small but was not quite an adult either. Eventually she had come to the conclusion it was best if you didn't treat them differently at all. Often their logic, while not as complicated as an adult's was just as sound. And there was something to be said about the direct beauty of it. It was also best to not assume they were stupid and unaware."Hello again Alex. I had to speak to your brother about where I was to stay while I am in the area. I have a question for you as well but I'd like to tell you something else first." Aesa continued to keep eye contact with Alex to ensure she was paying close attention to what she next had to say, "I want you to know that I am very grateful to you and your brother for all of your help and would not do anything to disrupt your lives. I have started to think of you and Ace as my allies" Aesa was hoping that by offering the tempataion of the unknown question, specifcally using her brother's alias instead of the name she accidently spoke and by including the child in he alliance she would be able to soothe her ruffled feathers back into place.

Alex looked at her and smiled before closing her eyes tightly. "Thanks, I'm glad you can think that. Brother tells me a lot of people don't like him and would take him away forever if they knew who he was. So please don't tell. I don't think you will though," she smiled sitting down on the ground quietly with her eyes still closed. She yawned and stretched a little bit looking around and curious about what was going on. She took her hair and started blindly braiding it quietly into a neat french braid. Once she was done, she pulled a ribbon out of her pocket and tied it before letting it fall half way down her back again. Upon finishing her task, she flopped down on the warm wood floor calmly and quietly with her eyes still closed.

"What is your question though, Mage Aesa?" she asked in a more childish tone then she'd had the first time when directly addressing her. She yawned loudly a little tired as it was becoming later in the night, but she wanted to help her new friend. As she laid there though, she thought about her brother and when he came home hurting and with another girl. Honestly, Aesa scared her at first, terrified her. She'd been told stories how mages wanted everyone as slaves, but her teacher had to be wrong. Aesa wasn't like that and Ace never told her that. It surprised her though. He respected them but didn't like them. The small child impatiently waited for the question wanting to know what it was.

Ace bathed quickly taking away the smell and filth off of him leaving him feel refreshed and a lot more relaxed after the cold bath. By the time it had warmed up, he was already done and he stepped out drying off. He rubbed his tired eyes before he pulled his clothes back on and walked home. It was a quick trek but it tired him immensely. His mind was to clouded to think, it could only really answer and function the rest of him. Even as much as he couldn't make himself think, he thought any way. He thought about Aesa though mostly even if he tried to not think so. He was so worried about how she was going to survive through this without being caught. This was no place for a higher living mage. It just didn't happen without assistance and it seemed that he was to be the person that kept her alive. He thought about how she called him a unmarked animal and he stopped feeling that hit him hard. He wasn't unmarked. He was the most branded creature out in the world here.

He snarled at this and walked forward again full of anger again. He felt crazy for all this. Since when did he care if he was marked. Apparently since now. Ace grumbled and decided he just needed a lot of sleep and then he would be fine. Stumbling in the door, he stumbled a few feet before he was standing in front of the trunk of blankets. He opened it and pulled out a blanket and just dropped it on the ground before sinking down hard. He closed his eyes the second his head hit and soon he was unconscious after. He was so tired and didn't care if Aesa was here any more. HE just wanted to sleep.

Aesa smiled as Alex braided her hair so efficiently. It made her wonder though where their parents were that the little girl of so slight an age was so capable. Those were questions better left unasked though as they were truly none of her business. It was clear enough that Ace took his care of his younger sibling very seriously. "Ace has offered me the shelter of your home while I am here - but I wanted to make sure that was acceptable to you before I accepted." She knew she would be disrupting both their lives and wanted make the tranisition as smooth as possible.

Aesa lingered in the bath even after she was finally, fully cleaned. It was marvelous to soothe her abused body in the comforting water and just let her mind wander. She found it stopping on the puzzling Ace more than once and had to foricbly turn her thoughts to other things. It was unsettling the effect he had on her. Finally she saw that Alex was just waiting patiently for her to be done and Aesa decided she couldn't be selfish any longer. "Let us return then Alex - it has gotten rather late." And as unbelievable as it was she was ready for sleep once more.

After helping the girl pick up their belongings and tote them back to the house she folded their dirtied laundry and brought them inside. Upon seeing Ace asleep on the ground she sighed and shook her head, only now realizing she must have confiscated his own bed while she was recupperating. Well moving him now would only disturb his much needed rest. She would arrange with him tomorrow for him to return to his own bed while she stole it for one last night. Bidding Alex a goodnight Aesa made her way to her own bed, covering her yawn with the back of her hand. After crawling beneath the sheets she rolled over and was engulfed with Ace's scent. She was frustrated that even here his precense wouldn't leave her. Hitting the pillow roughly to beat it into shape she let vent her irrational frustration and rolled over to sleep.

Alex fallowed after her happily and smiled before she found her brother on the floor sleeping. He wasn't sleeping well, she could tell that even though he seemed to be find. He was completely tense in his sleep, but he didn't seem to care enough to wake up. Alex did though. When Aesa left she just smiled at her. "It's okay if you stay here," she reassured her at the last second. She looked at her brother and rubbed his ribs gently. In his sleep, he lifted up his arm and slightly and she snuggled against his chest and he wrapped his arm back around her again. He held her cool body close to his warm one and she quickly fell asleep in his arm.

Ace woke up last sleeping late into the day and heavily. It wasn't a normal sleep, it was an exhausted need for sleep. Alex was up first though making breakfast happily wanting for it to be special for her new guest. She busied herself with making a sweet bread. Once she was done, the hot smell wafted around the house happily cutting it open letting some steam escape as she waited for Aesa to get up. She couldn't help it that she was extreamly excited to see what she thought of it, also wanting her to do something about her brother since she didn't understand it. He wasn't waking up even though he seemed okay. She just didn't understand how tired he was right then as he was sleeping through the morning.

Aesa blinked open her eyes, noting it was later in the day based on the position of the sun that shone through the window. It was unlike her to sleep much past dawn and she scrambled from the bed, hoping she wouldn't be though slovenly for her poor sleeping habits two days in a row. In her haste her legs became tangled in the blankets, causing her to fall forward and off the edge of the bed, landing with a dull thud on the floor. Well hopefully no one heard that. Quickly gaining her feet, Aesa smoothed out her robes and hair until she felt somewhat presentable and made her way to the living area.

Immediately she was assaulted by the tempting scent of freshly baking bread. Following the trail to the kitchen area she smmiled at the industrious Alex, ever ready to assist. "That smells absolutely delicious Alex. Did you need my assistance with anything?" Aesa was not a deft hand in the kitchen but she was willing to try - the more she reflected on the last couple days the clearer it became how little she really could claim in the way of talent. Other than her small sphere of abilities she was somewhat helpless in the grand scheme of things. It was a sobering thought to be sure.

From the corner of her eye she notices Ace still sleeping in his makeshift bed. Well good - he was getting much needed rest and he wouldn't realize that she had overslept.

Alex shook her head. "No, I've got it until I cut it up. Why is he sleeping so much?" she asked honestly confused. He never slept that much and even though that Aesa understood he was exhausted, she didn't. She put the warm bread on the table and motioned that she could eat when she wanted since she had places to go. "I have to go to school and stuff like that though. I'll be back at lunch then dinner," she grinned playfully. She took another slice of the bread and ran into her room to get dressed. She came back out in a tomboyish gown before eating the bread and heading out the door. She waved good bye then vanished. Alex ran from her home into the woods where her small class would be waiting for her.

Ace rolled over onto his other side when Alex left and he snuggled further into the "bed" still not sleeping well since last night. He was tiring himself out sleeping. He muttered something before laying still again being in oblivion again.

Aesa didn't have time to answer the excited child as she ran about serving and cleaning. And then just as suddenly she was gone. Children had inexhaustible sources of energy that Aesa envied. As the little whirlwind that went by Alex swept back into the room to snag another piece of bread, Aesa was just finishing her own serving. It tasted as good as it had smelled and Aesa had to call that out to Alex as she ran from the house to meet with her schoolmates.

Looking over her shoulder she wanted to ensure she hadn't woken the sleeping male she was pleased to see he slumbered on. That is, until she saw how restless he was. Not exactly the deep oblivion she herself had enjoyed when her body had been so depleted. Rising from her chair she made her way quietly over to the unconscious Ace and knelt at his side. She carefully brushed his hair from his forehead and frowned in consternation to find him warm.
