User ImageAbigail beamed at his praise, overjoyed to know that he liked her song. "Of course!" she enthused happily, tapping the guitar lightly with her long fingers in her excitement.
The chance to write another song for him... It was pure bliss.

((sorry, blah post...))

User ImageMichael watched her carefully as she ran her fingers eagerly over the frets of the guitar neck, practically quivering with excitement already. He had understated what he really wanted. She wouldn't just be writing a few songs with him; she would be co-writing an entire album. His band was falling apart and he needed some time away from them before he could even think about another tour with the boys. This would be the perfect change for him, and for Abi too. She would get a chance to stretch her legs a bit, get a feel for the business and the chaos of making an album, but with someone she knew and was comfortable with. He could train her up, prepare her for what was to come ahead, and if she changed her mind about being a musician, then they both could look back upon the time with fondness rather than contempt.

Michael suddenly realized that he had been staring rather intensely at her hands and blinked. He looked up at her and smiled.
"What're you thinking about?" he asked then, unsure of what else to say then.

User ImageAbigail's mind was already whirring with ideas of different songs that she could create. She had a few that she had begun to write, but the inspiration had fled for some reason and so they now sat, unfinished in a fat notebook on her desk. The inspiration was now flooding back, and Abigail knew that she could finish those songs with Michael's help.
His voice brought her back to the present, and she realized that he was looking at her so intently, and it sent a pleasant little shiver down her spine.
She grinned, standing up and leaping in a tidy little bound towards Michael. She still held the guitar tightly in one hand, and with the other she reached for one of Michael's hands, intending to lead him up the stairs and to her room. "I'm just so excited." she explained, still beaming. Before making it to the stairs, she turned suddenly and wrapped her arms around his chest in another tight, but quick hug, "I missed you so much!"

User ImageMichael grinned to himself as she hugged him, giving her another squeeze before following her into her room. "It's good to be excited; this is a great opportunity for you," he agreed. It felt odd, being in her bedroom. It had changed quite a lot in five years, but was still the same quiet, comfortable place it had been the first time he'd come in.

"Remember the last time I was here?" he asked nostalgically, reaching out to touch her filmy curtains. "You were thirteen, so young...I had no idea things now would be so different, back then." He turned and looked at her and felt his hand start to shake slightly, dropping it quickly to his side. Gods, he was such a lech, wasn't he?

User ImageAbigail watched Michael as he spoke, tilting her head slightly to the side, surprised by the fondness in his face. Slowly a smile overtook her features and she nodded as she gently placed the guitar on her bed and then she went to search her desk for the notebook full of songs that she had given up on.
Her room was a testament to how young she truly was. Abigail may have been certain that she was a mature young woman, but the teddy bears and the baby quilts of her youth were still scattered over her neatly made bed. There were countless posters of her favorite bands covering the walls. The paint and the rugs were varying shades of pastel purples, pinks, and blues, and her desk still held the music boxes given to her by her grandmother years ago, as well as the computer and various electronics. She felt so mature and grown up, but she was still a child, untested and untried in the 'real world' and she was rearing to go and use her new-found wings.
Finally she found the notebook after much muttering and grumbling, shoved to the back of one of her drawers. It didn't seem any worse for it's neglect, but just the same, Abigail patted it happily and held it out for Michael to inspect. She moved the guitar on her bed out of the way and she sat, then patted the bedspread for Michael to sit next to her. "Be honest now." she chided, "I know they're not finished, but tell me what you think."

User ImageMichael took the notebook Abi offered delicately, knowing just how much you had to trust someone to show them your song notebook. Then, after considering the spot on the bed beside her for a moment, sat awkwardly on the chair beside her desk. He leafed through it, absorbing everything, wanting to really give her his full attention. It was quite difficult for him to get the adults around him to take him seriously as a lad, and so he had grown to resent most of them. He didn't want Abi to be as cynical as him when she grew up. Well, grew up more, he supposed.

She was a brilliant girl, certainly, but there was a bit of something to be desired in her writing.
"These are good," he said slowly, thoughtfully, nodding as he turned another page. He flipped the whole thing shut and looked up at her. "But you're writing about stuff you don't even understand yet. Love? Lemme tell ye, Abi; love don't exist until you're at least 25." He tossed the notebook carefully back onto the bed beside her.

User ImageAbigail's face fell slightly when Michael ignored her invite, but she quickly wiped it away, not wishing to let it show. She tried not to watch him intently as he read, knowing that such attention would make her nervous if their roles were reversed. So instead, she fiddled idly with a stray thread on her bedspread.
While she waited for him to finish, her toes curled comfortably into the shag carpet that rested by her bed. It was an unconcious habit acquired through a love of all things plush and soft to the touch. Being an artistic and tactile person, Abigail knew that she had a habit of touching and feeling everything that she came into contact with. This did not exclude music. She treated the songs that she sang and wrote to be almost living, breathing creatures. And she loved to immerse herself into their life.
She looked up intently, hearing the covers of the notebook slap gently together and closed again. Her bright eyes raised to his, and she smiled at his words.
She watched carelessly as the pages of her labor flew gently to the bed, landing with a soft whump of well-loved pages. She gently touched the cover which she had decorated with nail polish flowers and music notes, feeling the softness with tender fingers.
A small smile graced her full lips, and she answered, "I know a thing or two about love." She looked back to him, a sweet smile in place, and her eyes shining as if to tell him a deep dark secret.

User ImageEven as she spoke, Michael was smiling and shaking his head, not realizing that he was being quite condescending to the girl. "Nope. You might think you know about love - love for your parents and siblings is different - but real love, between two people... You're just a kid; you don't know a thing about it. I mean, you can love someone before you're 25, but it ain't real until then."

He knew he was probably being a bit catty about the whole thing, a bit know-it-all-ish, but he couldn't help it. He was almost trying to convince her of something, but he didn't know what that something was yet.
