Hayden spent hours wandering around the market. He started to recognize the shopkeepers, and finally he knew that it was time to return to the castle. He took his time on the walk back, and then he crept in through the servant's entrance so as to escape any who might rat him out.
He managed to make it to his suite without alerting anybody, and there he had a bath drawn and he sank gratefully into the smooth suds, groaning as his sore muscles began to relax and loosen up. He winced slightly as his palms stung from the soap, and one of the maids noticed.
She seemed worried and quickly tried to help him. "What on earth did you do?" she questioned without thought. She immediately regretted her choice to question him. He was the prince, and it was his place to do as he wished. And he generally didn't speak to the servants. "I'm sorry," she quickly apologized, averting her eyes, "Please, ignore my rudeness." she insisted nervously.
Instead of chastising her, Hayden actually looked at her face. He knew that she had been serving his family for years, but for the life of him, he couldn't think of her name. A fist clenched in his stomach. Had he really detached himself so much? "It's alright." he reassured her. "I was only being foolish."

Vanessa Dolly

The next day Vanessa was woken up early, her hair and makeup were done and her clothing was different from anything she had ever worn; nice and glamourous.
Her heart was a bit crooked at the moment, no other word best describing how she felt - other than maybe bouncy.

She was on a carriage, looking no where but straight ahead; the man next to her chatting wildly about something she could only tell you if she was actually listening. But this didn't matter too him, he was oblivious to the fact that she couldn't have cared for whatever he said; and his words continued to spew out. The carriage bumped along the towns cobblestone, their destination was the royal family's castle because he was part of the royal family. She think that he said he was the Prince's cousin but everything went in one ear and out the other with her, the only word that stuck to her was 'Prince'.

When they finally reached the entrance of the castle she got down, thanks to the hand of the Prince's cousin who walked into the castle as if he owned it. She followed a few feet behind her stomach growning nervous as they walked in, the first thing she saw - to a bit of her dismay - wasn't the Prince but his mother and father; their smiles on as they exchanged 'hello's' with the cousin.

Hayden slept fitfully that night. It was a combination of his sore muscles as well as this new understanding that he was finding about himself. So he lay in his bed for hours, staring at the ceiling while sleep evaded him.
Finally the morning came, and Hayden barricaded himself in for a short while, just so that they might leave him alone.
Finally he allowed them to enter. They helped him dress and brought him food. For the first time, he actually payed attention to those around him. He listened to their little comments towards eachother, and he realized how much he had been missing. This only helped to lower him further into his depression, and his thoughts reluctantly turned to Vanessa.
When he left his room, he wasn't expecting much of his day, although he had heard rumors going through the servants that there was a special guest at the castle today...

Of course she curtsied, shook their hands and smiled; and then she just didn't talk. Vanessa didn't make small talk, she just stood behind the Princes cousin - whom she realized was named Christofer. The Prince's parents had turned and walked, beconning them into another room instead of the foyer. This was when Christofer had grabbed her by the elbow, something that had started to make her stomach churn. For some reason she just couldn't stand him.
His personality was nice, he was kind and rich but she felt more like a showdog than anything; which was weird considering she had nothing to show.

They were led into a room with books aligning one wall, the other was taken up by a large window and in the middle were just long lounging couches. Christofer led her to one couch, where they continued to talk amoungst themselves; tea being passed around. An odd thing was that they didn't inquire her about where she lived, or who was her family. Maybe they already knew her background but that seemed unlikely as well.

"Oh, yes. Hayden should be here any moment." Vanessa looked up, seeing the queen taking a sip of her tea while her eyes drifted downwards from a clock that laid in the top of the room.

"Ah! Lord Hayden, there you are!!" someone cried, startling the prince from where he was sitting having his palms checked by the nurse again. He looked at the short, balding man, his brow wrinkled in curiosity. "Excuse me?" he said, trying to be polite. It was a relatively new attitude.
"You're expected, my Prince." the man said excitably, "To meet with your cousin and a special guest for tea." the little man was hopping nervously from foot to foot. "Alright, alright." Hayden said reassuringly, watching this nervous tick with one raised eyebrow. "Just give me one moment, and I'll be ready."
He couldn't help but have his curiosity piqued at the news of a guest...
Once his hands were re-wrapped carefully with a lighter and much neater bandage, Hayden stood to follow the man, hoping that he wouldn't get too excited lest he pass out of something. Finally they reached a small tea room, and Hayden entered, lifting his eyes to see his parents, and then his cousin. But as he focused on the guest, and he realized who it was, his step faltered slightly. For a brief moment, he could only stare.

In her hands laid the teacup on its tiny dish, a maid had come around quite a few times to refill them but each time she came she didn't need to fill Vanessa's because it was empty.
She played with the handle, her fingers running over it and feeling the hand painted decoration on it. It must have cost a pretty penny, and she could get things like this if she did what her mother said. But even if she wanted to back out, which she did, it was too late now.

The door opened, and with it her attention turned; looking at the Prince. Of course she knew he'd be here, it was his home but she still felt embarrassed.
Christofer stood up and clasped his hands together, pulling Vanessa up by the elbow again and leading her over - a maid taking the tea from her.
"Hayden! I haven't seen you in a long time but nows better than never right?" He grabbed Hayden's hand, shaking it before letting go and putting his hand on Vanessa's upper arm and pulling her forward. "I was just introducing your mother and fathere to Vanessa here, and giving them the invitation; don't worry yours is there too."
Vanessa became aware of Hayden and just his presence but the whole time she looked down, feeling timid and uneasy about everything. For some reason she felt sick, too many thoughts running through her head.
His mother and father might not know her class but he certainly did, and now here she was made to look fancy all for show.
Christofer had tilted his head a bit, trying to look at Vanessa's down cast face before he smiled and brought it back up; laughing. "I'm sorry, you must excuse her. My bride to be is shy."

Hayden couldn't help but to stare. Her face and her clothes were clean. She had a pat of powder on her nose and a smudge of paint on her lips. She looked like a proper lady.
A maid ushered Hayden forward and suddenly Christopher was shaking his hand and finally Hayden found his brain among the swirling inferno of his emotions, and he managed to focus just enough to understand what his cousin was saying. He pulled his mouth into a congratulatory smile. He had to be enthusiastic. His cousin had been the one that no one had ever thought would settle down. And yet here she was.
"It is so good to see you cousin." he said, surprised to find his voice to be smooth and even. He could pull this act if only he was careful and he focused. He gave a small half bow to Vanessa. He reached forward to take her hand and to give it a gentle kiss, "My Lady..." he murmured, his eyes lowered to the floor to see her dainty feet. He never betrayed that he knew her already.
The group began to make it's way back to the tea tables and to sit themselves once again. From there the polite small talk ensued. Hayden felt his eyes drift to Vanessa's form every now and then without his consent, and he quickly turned them away, a slight hint of a blush coloring his neck and ears.

Vanessa sat down on the couch once again, looking down into her own lap while Christian had become flamboyant; talking about the wedding and it's few plans. But he quickly stood up, looking back down before Vanessa had stood up after him. Once again he placed his fingertips on her elbow, making her turn her head to 'look at the decor.'
"Well we should get going, we have to make some more plans. We'll be staying in the nearby inn, Vanessa thinks it's very cute. Don't you?"
She looked up, her cheeks tingling while they beame an opaque pink. "Yes," he nodded in response, pulling her along gently but still commanding.
"We'll come back later, if that's alright with you. Or you could come visit us, right? We're just a moment away." He tilted his head down once again, looking at Vanesssa in the eye before she realized that she was looking down. "Yes, thank you."
In reality she didn't know what to say, she just knew how she felt; uneasy, unsure, unwanted. Everything floated into her at once, like a giant wave filling up her lungs.

She curtsied just a bit, not getting down too much like Christian had instructed her to moments before they had come. He gave his own nod, pulling her along and out of the room before they got back into their carriage.

ooc;; It's alright, lol. I know how schedules are.

What a mess. Hayden stood as his cousin stood, as though he might protest against this obscenity. But then he watched Vanessa's face. She didn't protest. She didn't pull away. She seemed slightly uncomfortable, but who wouldn't be in her situation, surrounded by royalty as she was.
Slowly, Hayden pulled himself back. He pretended to smile, to nod that of course they could visit and that it would be pleasant indeed.
But inside he was fuming. He couldn't believe it himself that he was so caught up with this peasant girl. He had to remind himself that she wouldn't be a peasant much longer, but that was where she had began. It was where Hayden knew her, and he wasn't sure if he wished for her to marry his cousin. Who knew what would happen to her soft and gentle ways if she was thrown into politics, even if she was merely a trophy for his cousin. It could destroy her.
The complexity of his feelings astounded Hayden as he watched them begin to leave. And he couldn't help the despair that became lodged heavily in his stomach.

((now perhaps they can meet by chance in a meadow or something? For some reason I can just totally see that...))

Vanessa Dolly

When they had returned to the inn everything was a bit different.
The air between Christofer and her was different, more quiet, more awkward. Together they stood in their shared room, something that they had only gotten today but which made her feel awkward and nervous. This meant they would sleep in the same bed, would he try anything? Thinking about this made her sick, so she just looked at herself in the mirror, for the first time seeing how made up she was.
A palette of make-up was on her face, her hair had been curled up while she wore jewlery that cost more than some people's houses.
Vanessa looked down, tilting her head to meet her hand whle she took off her earrings. Never before had she felt more uncomfortable, she wasn't sure what was worse; being with him or the other boy that had tried to take advantage of her. In reality they were both doing the same thing.

She had taken off her accessories, pulled her hair down and mussed it up, walking over to where Christofer was and standing in the doorway. Even for an inn their 'room' was extravagant, there were four rooms that took up one floor; the top. They consisted of a dinning area, a room, a kitchen and a bathroom which was the smallest of all the rooms. She was even surprised at how they had put this in at the inn but was told that it was due to frequent stays of the wealthy visiting their family; aka. royalty.
The furnishing colors consisted of blue and a dull gold, blending into the wall and carpet; even the ceiling if you looked up.

"I-I'm going to go take a walk for a bit."
Christofer sat at the dinning table, which wasn't really considered one since it didn't reach up to their waist, just below the knee when one sat.
He looked up, paperwork had been spread amoung the table. Usually she would ask what they were due to her curiosity, but this time she didn't. What if they were about her and how her 'exchange' took place?
He gave her a quick eye, of course he would be weary and distrusting considering their circumstances and how the agreement of marriage took place, but surprisingly he gave her a small nod; looking back down and not giving her anything else.

She took this as her leave, going back into 'their' room and pulling off her gown. Getting so frustrated that she practically ripped it off her body.
In reality all she wanted to do was scream, everything that had happened had finally sunk in but she choose to keep her mouth shut while she put on her regular peasant ware.

Vanessa left the inn, having wiped off most of the colors that had plagued her face, and walked down to the only place she could think of.
The small little area of forest that she usually went. The clearing was the same as it had always been, while the garden variety mostly consisted of dandelions; ugly weeds considered by most of everyone. But they weren't ugly to her, even if they were weeds because right now she was the ugliest thing there.

ooc;; Yeah that's actually what I imagined too.

Hayden waited until it would be polite for him to leave the tea time with his parents, and then he hurried away. He knew that he needed to make up on his lessons, but he couldn't bring himself to care enough for it to matter much. So instead he had a young maid, he learned that her name was Sharrah, pack him some food from the kitchens. He changed from his princely attire into his dirty peasant garb once more and with the food in a small sack, he deftly climbed from the window, wincing as his palms stung and ached.
Once down on the ground, it was simple enough to to find his way across the grounds without being noticed. After he was certain that no one passing by would recognize him easily, Hayden started walking easily down a dirty path. he skirted the town so that he wouldn't have to see any more people at that point in time. He just wasn't in the mood to deal with anybody at the moment. He realized that he was changing. He hadn't really noticed it before, but he was beginning to recognize the people of the village as individual people, not simply as ants to hide from his crushing boots.
Hayden shook his head as he came upon a a small clearing. It seemed a pleasant enough place, with small droplets of sun and high grasses and small animals scampering. Without much more thought, Hayden changed his direction and walked casually into the center of the clearing. It was easy to lay down where he was standing. The dirt and bugs didn't bother him as much as they might have a few days ago. Now he just enjoyed staring up at the pale sky where a few clouds drifted lazily by. After a moment, the realization struck him that he wasn't entirely alone as he had thought.

Vanesssa had spent her moments thinking, plucking dandelions and uprooting them and pulling the small tressors off of it.
Every so often she heard footsteps but they always dissappeared, just the distant noise of the towns people comming and going from around the area.

But when she heard broad footsteps she didn't think anything of it, even as they transferred over from gravel to grass, smashing the leafs.
The thought didn't register that she wasn't alone anymore, it was in the back of her mind; which was totally empty, her ownly real thought was to keep plucking dandelions.

Until it did register in her head.

Vanessa turned her head, all the headed seeds that she had plucked off of millions of dandelions had been let go; their whisps floating in the air.
He must not have seen her, or maybe he did and didn't care but that was beside the point now she wasn't too keen on seeing him now.

Vanessa stood up, brushing the few straggles of nature off of her dress before she began to walk away.
They had seen each other once today, and a few days before. Hadn't that been enough?
She didn't even think she could face him right now, what did he think about her and Christofer's wedding? Maybe he thought she had scammed his cousin, seduced him and planned on taking everything he owned. Or maybe he thought the worst thought of all, that they were in love and actually wanted to wed each other.

Hayden sat up, pressing his elbows into the dirt to support his shoulders and his head. He squinted, and then he saw her. Before he could stop himself, he called out to her. "Please, wait." he said softly, pushing himself up further so that he was sitting up above the high weeds.
He was sure that she was leaving because of him. What must she think of him. She must be upset because he had barely acknowledged her during tea. He frowned worriedly, hoping that she would return. That maybe she would talk to him. He hadn't hope for such a thing before, but now...
He could feel the damp dirty soaking into the sleeves of his elbows, and the seat of his pants, but he didn't care. He only cared for what the pretty girl before him thought, and what she would do now that he had spoken to her.
