You know what ticks me off?
When people look down on lolita fashion, but don't mind 14 yr olds in leather miniskirts and tube tops. When tv ridicules the fashion, but glorifies the corrosive Paris Hiltoning of North America's youth. But most of all, I hate when women feel embarrassed of their lolita fashion, but girls who dress like whores are not.
@Magical Girl Yossy- Don't be embarrassed! You are classy and talented and that's nothing to be ashamed of! Next time someone asks you, and you're worried they will think it's weird or will misinterpret the word "lolita" as some fetish or sexual thing, then take a deep breath, shoulders back, smile and answer, "Dresses influenced by Victorian fashion." Nothing weird about that. Just class and talent. heart heart

firelily808 Razeasha The next day, a guy who had seen me somewhere without my cane walked up to me and informed me that I was not blind. I was so angry. I just walked away. I have a friend who is legally blind also....and if someone had the nerve to tell her she isn't blind because she doesn't have her cane stressed ....I would have punched the STUPID out of him.... scream I'm so sorry that has happened to you. Then, you are a good friend. heart It's ok. Things like that happen sometimes. Sometimes I can make t ino a joke, but that guy just made me so angry. I was proud of myself for not beating the life out of him. -Lolita_Kana- Suicidal Watercolors Yuo should have caned him 3nodding I agree, right on his idiotic head to see if some sense gets knocked into him Why would I want to do that to my cane?! LOL Aikurushii Momo Aww, that is terrible.. I can't see why anyone would say that. I would never think "three blind mice" if I saw someone with a cane, dur..
I wasn't wearing any sort of ears or tail. I'm just a (legally) blind girl in lolita, so I have no idea what he was on... @Yossy: Be proud of your talent! It's wonderful. and Mouse is right! @Mouse: Boo slutwear!!! I hate that too. I think that's why my dd is warming up to lolita; it's not slutty.

Aww, thanks so much for your kindness and for your words of encouragement. ^-^
I do feel better now after hearing that.
Don't worry, I'll never refer to lolita as a costume ever again!

... you guys actually have hit on one of my biggest lolita pet-peeves. It happens in every lolita community I've been a part of, and chafes something awful: the naming of mainstream clothing as "slutwear", "trampy" or "slutty" by others who follow the fashion. =/
Frankly, I don't think it's fair for someone who follows lolita to be upset about someone else for being critical of their clothing if they're going to apply such a derogatory term to anyone. Just because it's less modest than what you prefer doesn't mean that It gives you the right to label someone with a hurtful term.
If it's a self-pointed barb or a joke, sure. Great. Carry on. I've got stilettos I call my hooker heels, for example. Doesn't mean I think anyone who has those same shoes is by default a prostitute. But to seriously label someone as "slutty", "stupid" or "whore-y" due to their clothing is entirely and directly contrary to the message of "PLEASE UNDERSTAND ME!" that so many lolitas seem to be desperate to put out there.
If you want people to accept your choice of fashion, you have to accept theirs. It goes both ways.
Yes. It sucks that mainstream culture idolizes something contrary to our own tastes. However, it's a rule of society that sex sells--even in times where modesty was prized, women were encouraged to put their wares on display to ensnare male attention, albeit more subtly. That hasn't changed. Children's clothing has always been a miniature of their parents' attire once adolescence has been reached. Society has changed due to the "creation" of teenagers, and has intensified the mimicry, but it's always, always been there.
Yes. It sucks that vapid, shallow celebrities are now the norm and that classy, well-behaved starlets are few and far between. Unfortunately, most lolita fashion is just as skin-shallow, what with the focus being on the visual aesthetic of the clothing, its trims and embellishments, and even the golden era of film and music had its scandals and secrets--I mean, hell. Judy Garland! Prime example.
Applying such negative terms to the followers of another fashion based on their clothing is beyond hypocritical when complaining that we are being labeled, mocked or derided for our fashion choices.

I'm sorry. I actually said it in jest. My mind was on a certain "Foamy the Squirrel" cartoon...I also have hooker boots and some short skirts (and a pair of shorts that are basically glorified underwear), and some of the lolitas on here would probably beat me for how I looked last time I went to a club (Why is it that other people give me all of the sexy things that I own?!). I didn't mean to be hurtful to anyone. I can see how it would offend some people. But I don't think that people who wear these clothes are sluts; I just call it slutwear thinking of the horrible cartoon. My friends and I call certain clothes that we wear "slutwear," but it's always been a joke followed by a laugh. I'm totally going to nickname my cosplays my "shiny animoo clothes" too. We live in a world of labels. It's true, no matter how much we don't want to accept it. I'm not really one of those people who desperately wants to have my fashion accepted. I got over most of that wanting to be accepted by the masses in elementary school. I was too different then, and am still too different. I don't think that there is anyone else on this guild who has to get their computer to read the comments in pink or small font out loud because she cannot see it. I don't think there's anyone else who gets stared at like she doesn't belong when she walks up to the counter in a bookstore. (I'm sure you all know situations like these with your own circumstances.) Just today, I was asked about my cane and my eyesight problems. I sound like a textbook when I answer. I am so used to being questioned about my eyes, skin, hair, sunglasses, cane, etc. that it's nice to be asked about something as superficial as my shoes or my clothes. I love lolita, because it is beautiful. I feel like a work of art when I wear it. But a small part of it is also that I want to hide in the open and blame my frills for the stares instead of my genetics.

Sorry! T^T I didn't mean that mainstream fashion, or even clubwear, was slutty, but I see now that it sounds that way, so I won't use terms like that anymore. I should have been more clear and careful not to spit labels. I only meant that it upsets me when people's focus is on fitting in, and not the safety of the underage, so someone is more likely to turn a blind eye to a 14 yr old with nether hair showing or trying to look like a scandalous celebrity than a 14 yr old wearing all black or a bonnet. When I say girls who dress like whores, I mean little girls, not women who enjoy the fashion(edit: fashion being mainstream, clubwear, etc). Little little middle school girls who don't understand the dangers and implications of dressing way beyond their age, and how it's being encouraged by tv. I know that that's just how it is, but older guys still try to pick them up, they still get suspended from school, they are still targeted, and so I am still not okay with it. I'm sorry it came out the way it did, I didn't mean miniskirts and tube tops are bad. Most of my clothes are mainstream fashion, lolita is just a special day thing for me.

There are many, many things that bother me, I'll list just a few. -People who tell me I can't wear darker or heavier than almost-non-existent makeup, or certain shoes if I want to be Lolita. I will accept the limitations on skirt shapes and lengths and the like, but things like shoes and makeup should really be up to the person, not just one basic set per style. -People who tell me I'm too old to be Lolita, or "too curvy". Yes, I'm almost 18, yes, I have a figure. There really isn't much in the fashion world available to me without tons of tailoring, let me have whatever I decide I like! gonk -People that tell me I'm born to model Lolita. (Apparently I naturally walk like a model on the runway, I'm also 4'11".) I love the fashion, I would love to model it, but it still bothers me, constantly being reminded of how "doll-like" I already am. No one has even seen me in Lolita yet! -People that assume I'm a ***** because I'm interested in Lolita, and I have friends years younger than me. I could go on for hours... So I'll stop here.

@Nilokara: Yeah my father thinks that the fashion too distracting. I have gotten into arguments about it. But I tell him that I'm not being immodest with the fashion.
Another peeve is, when some lolitas are too obsessed with the "lolita lifestyle". Before anyone throw their lace-adorned knives at me. ( Lol ) I meant if they try to force the lifestyle on me. I don't mind if one of my friends lives that way. I will not argue agaist that. Thats her lifestyle. However, it's not for me. I don't like embroidery. I can be polite but I don't need people giving me dirty looks when I lay back and put my leg up on a chair when i want to relax.

eto.... Conventional Lolitas that call it cosplay and give the fashion a bad name. Then Glare at you for having a decent dress. Parents who think Lolita is Erotic clothing.. Because of the book. When my parents try and tell me that i can wear Lolita now, with my two dresses. (I don't even have a petti-coat, or shoes! Or even proper tights. Only petti-coat i have is made by my mom that has a thick ribbon for the band (no elastic) that when tied puts a huge knot under your skirt, and is made out of layers of itchy tulle. ) Necklaces that break after a day of wearing them... Dropping food on your clean clothing, even though you tried so hard not to. Knocking something over with your huge poof skirt, then getting in trouble as if you did it on purpose. *****... I hate them with a Passion. Had to many of them come after a couple years ago.I just said I was a Loli (short of Lolita) and they flipped head over heels. I was naive and didn't know or think of the loli-con... Which is something else I hate. Thanks to ***** and Loli-con, I actually hate Hentai with a passion to... any sort of porn or immodest people... Even though I love anime and even draw it. Sorry... That all is kinda off topic.
I don't know really what else to say. -blushes- I have alot of pet-peeves but i have bad memory. I only remember them when they get set off.

That's the one thing I fear the most about getting into this fashion. I can't help the feeling that dressing in this manner makes young girls look like a target. *We* know that the style is all about innocence and modesty, but ***** don't.
I keep small embroidery scissors in a pocket of my purse that is easily accessible (no zipper in the way). They are small and come to a very sharp point even when closed. They're tucked in there along with a pocket-sized roll of measuring tape and a travel sewing repair kit, so it gives the appearance of all being part of a set and hopefully no one can claim that I'm carrying a concealed weapon. <_<; Even though that absolutely is my intention in carrying it.

Yeah... I once tried starting a lolita club in my town because my dad encouraged me to. (to get out and meet friends) but In the end it just attracted two *****. (a male and female) Of course my parents let this 27 year old guy around me alone.... anything I don't want to think about it.
The embroidery scissors as a weapon is the most cutest thing ever. D: I may take that up once i get a purse... (i have plenty but a purse i actually like enough to take with me)

Oh man, talking about ***** peeves, you guys reminded me of another one. Walking through (a)_____ wearing (b)_____ and a group of (c)_____ starts (d)_____ or (e)_____ you because you stand out and they won't (f)_____ or (g)_____ until you (h)_____. For me, it's mostly: (a)Seattle (b)Lolita or business clothes (c)home boys (d)hitting on you (e)threatening (f)leave you alone (g)stop following you (h)pull these out, http://7.media.tumblr.com/b9vfl4b63hsxd9wavsUet8dao1_500.jpgAnyone have a similar peeve?
