For me it is almost always low cut socks. Ankle socks sometimes, if I opt to buy them, as I can wear them with sneakers on six miler days. Ankle socks also tend to work well with my boots too.
I will buy some crew socks come winter for things like skiing/sledding outings, but that's about it.

Must be a regional thing because what Kals showed to be low-cut socks would be called ankle socks around here. Maybe low-cut ankle socks? Anyway, if I must wear sneakers or what not I will wear those. For work I will wear what Kals has labelled crew socks but I don't think I've ever seen them called that.
Generally I prefer to wear flats with no socks at all. In the house I tend to get around barefoot.

I like knee high socks, but will settle for ordinary ones. If I'm wearing shorts or capris and need to wear runners I go with bobby socks. -Formerly La Belle Isolde-
