Trowie smiles and sighs. She likes to bounce around. She just notices things that are important to her. She knows the sooner we find th' path, the sooner we see a badger. For a moment, his face falls. And the sooner we can get back to the clan 'fore we get in REAL big trouble. Up ahead, Keesha bounces up and down on the path, waiting for the other two to catch up, heedless of anything else now that she was so close to her goal. C'mon-Twowie, c'mon-mister-Sa-...-agrr-....-rus! She stumbles over Sagruus' name. We-gotta-hurries-or-da-badjas-be-gone!

Trowie cocks his head, unsure of what Sagruus had said, exactly. Then he shrugs and tries to find Keesha, or at least traces of her passing. Hey Keesha! Slow down! I can't even see you anymore! Where'd you go? Keesha had taken to the trees, and was trying to set up another good ambush point, hoping to land on Sagruus' back and surprise him. The branches shook from her giggles, making it more unlikely for her to ambush anyone.

They came to the edge of the trees, where they could see the high, crenalated outer walls, and the belltower extending up way past it all.
Sagruus was lost for words, and just leaned against a tree, trying to wrap his mind around something that big.

Trowie's eyes widen as he catches sight of Redwall. He starts his gaze at the bottom and slowly raises his head, taking in as much of the building as he can. Wow......was it ALWAYS that big? Behind him, Keesha plops down to the ground and is so awed by the site, she slips up beside Trowie and puts her little paw in his. They-must-'ave-elevenny-hundwed-badjas-in-dere!

Sagruus snaps out of his reverie, and goes across to the tall main gates. He takes a deep breath, lets it out slowly, and knocks on the heavy wood.

Trowie and Keesha hang back as they watch Sagruus, then as they see him knocking, both sets of eyes widen and both start raising a ruckus. Hey, wait a second! We can't go in there!Keesha-go-in-dere-Keesha-in-bigbig-twouble-Keesha-gonna-gets-in-somuch-twouble!But can't you jus' lure a badger out or summat? Do you 'ave to let them see us?Keesha's-viddy-fwightened-Twowie-Keesha-wanna-gohome! Trowie looks around helplessly, then he grabs Keesha's paw and with her in tow dashes to and hides behind the nearest tree.

Inside the gatehouse:
"Oh, confound it, who could it be at this mad hour? Probably some family of dormice who've run out of food," the old hedgehog answered his own question as he extricated himself from the venerable armchair. He shambled across to the door, letting himself out with mutterings about his old bones giving him jip, and climbed up the wallsteps, still muttering darkly about nothing in particular. He peeked over the battlements, to see a pale wildcat atanding in the At Ease position just outside the main gate, and rushed back down the steps and across the lawn with a speed that would do his grandhogs proud, thumping on the door of Great Hall, caling for Skipper of otters, who always slept on the floor at the foot of the tapestry.

Trowie and Keesha both poke their heads out from behind the tree, watching the gate with wide eyes. You-thinka-badja-gonna-come-owt-Twowie? Trowie answers without taking his eyes off of the gate. I dunno, Keesha. Badgers'r pretty big 'n fierce. It may take a great big army t' send a badger out. Keesha's eyes widen at this, much of her fear giving way to anticipation.

Fireside paused for a moment, his muzzle to the heavens. He didn't smell anything out of the ordinary, nevertheless he felt uneasy. He had taken unnecessary pains to avoid the fire and the beasts around it, and as a result he had lost the young ones' trail. He frowned in annoyance before heading on, unknowingly drawing nearer to the tree Aba was relaxing in.

Digging the sleep from his eyes, Skipper followed the creaky gatekeeper to the battlements, and called down, "What is is you want?" He was blunt and rude, partly because his holt had been attacked by a family of wildcats in the past. No deaths; it was a foraging party, but it had left him leary.
"Not much, just supplies and a place to rest travel-wearied bones for a few nights," Sagruus returned. He knew nothing of Skipper's history; it had been a different clan than his.

Having witnessed the conversation between Skipper and Sagruus, Trowie sticks his head back behind the tree and looks at Keesha, who had already stuck her had back as soon as she had heard the otter's voice. Was-it-a-badja-Twowie,-was-it-huh? Trowie shakes his head. Nope, just an otter. Sounded pretty mean though; maybe they have a whole otter army in there jus' visitin'. Keesha's eyes went wide. You-really-fink-so? Cause-a-army's-lotta-lotta-beasts-an-dat's-be'en-bad. Keesha pouts glares at the Redwall gates. Why-couldna-they-'ave-a-badja-army-inshtead?

((Yeah, sorry I didn't mention it. Add NPCs as needed, because I don't really have a head for lots of characters at once. I'd make a fairly bad author, in that respect. sweatdrop ))

"A-HEM. Skipper, maybe we'd better ask the Abbot before passing judgement on this." The old hedgehog put a paw on Skipper's back, and sat him down on the inner edge of the wallwalk. The two conversed in low voices for some minutes, after which, the recorder told Sagruus that it would be best to talk about rations and a place to sleep in the morning, in much kinder words than Skipper was about to use.
